The Spa Hotel receives a mix of feedback, with guests often praising the attentive service and the hotel's prime location close to the town center and attractions. While the rooms are considered pleasant and spacious, some guests feel they fall short in terms of modern amenities and style. The hotel's cleanliness stands out, although there are suggestions for minor improvements.
Opinions on value vary, with the dining and spa services labeled as overpriced by several travelers. The spa's ambiance is well-received, but its facilities and amenities sometimes disappoint guests expecting more for their money.

Beautiful classic historical hotel, with beautiful gardens, spa, and tennis court and multiple functional rooms to facilitate weddings, meetings or other events. Great main restaurant serving continental and cooked breakfast as well as lunch and dinners and separate bar area. Very well equipped gym, and nice spa area. Staff are amazing and hotel rooms are beautifully decorated and clean.

I stayed for one night at this gorgeous hotel as a 'staycation' break for my partner and I. It exceeded our expectations on every level. Upon arrival there was plenty free parking and we were greeted by a friendly mask wearing receptionist. We had been upgraded to a super spacious room with an AMAZING bathroom on the third floor, views from room 305 are spectacular. The bed was super large. There was ample storage and furniture in the room.
Hand sanitiser and social distancing reminders were dotted around the hotel and we were made to feel super comfortable by staff. We booked a swim in the pool for an hour, would have been the cherry on the cake to have a jacuzzi however, the tub in our room made up for that.
Breakfast in our room was delivered to our room on time and was tasty, only negative was that the toast was cold and my partners order was wrong, this was very quickly rectified after a call down to reception.
Our check out was quick and easy.
The hotel grounds are stunning, the greenery and mini lakes are gorgeous and we enjoyed a leisurely stroll after our check out. I didn't want to leave and would definiitely return!

We have recently spent another New Year’s Eve at the Spa Hotel. We have been enjoying these events annually since 2003. As we keep on returning you can guess we are very satisfied customers.
Right from the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by the friendly and very efficient staff; it was nice to be greeted like an ‘old friend’ by some of the staff whom we had met before.
The New Year’s Eve Gala dinner dance started with champagne and canapes in the Chandelier room then we moved next door into the beautifully decorated Royal Suite for the main event, as usual this was a very enjoyable occasion. The five- course dinner was delicious (I had the vegetarian meal, and my husband chose the meat option, both were equally good), the service throughout the evening was excellent and the D.J. had everyone up dancing as soon as the meal was finished.
The Spa hotel was built as a private house about 250 years, other areas date back over 140 years when it became a hotel and other parts are newer still, consequently not all bedrooms are the same; personally, I like this as each trip can be a little different. Some rooms are traditional others are decorated in a more modern style. On this occasion we had a lovely spacious room, everything was very clean, the King -sized bed was comfortable, plenty of storage space was provided and the room had proper sitting area with settee, easy chair and coffee tables. The bathroom was also of a good size and very clean. Our room had air conditioning but I’m not certain that every bedroom has this. Since the rooms are all so different if one has special requests such as: the need for completely step -free room access, air conditioning, garden view or you just need a very quiet room then it’s best to book directly with the hotel and specify your needs at the time of booking to ensure a pleasant stay.
Whilst staying we used the hotel’s swimming pool. Although the pool is quite small, I have never known it to be crowded. Towels can be collected at the swimming pool reception and a £1 returnable coin is needed to use the lockers. The hotel also has a gym but as I didn’t use this so I cannot comment upon it. Outside there are lovely grounds to be enjoyed – these are especially nice during summer days.
Overall, we had a great time. Thank you to all the staff who made the experience so enjoyable. We look forward to returning for the 2022 New year party (if not before).

well my friend and i booked this hotel for a spa weekend. it happened when the idiots were panicking over the petrol.
we arrived at the hotel check in was easy and we were giving a room on the first floor.
the room was very dated and very dark a deep green colour. there were two single beds that were single. there was two chairs by window and tea and coffee making facilities. the wardrobe had dressing gowns for the spa(no slippers) iron ironing board and safe.
the bathroom was huge but it had a bath with shower over which was quite a step over somewhat difficult when you had a recent hip replacement still we managed. really hot water and shower products.
there was no frosted glass on the bathroom so you had to put blind down as we were road side.
no air con in room but there was a standing fan.
room was very noisy at night especially by the people that smoke outside and dont realise that their voices travel at night.
we had breakfast that was in with the price we paid it was served to the table if you had hot and there were yogurts cereals and pastries. toast was bought to your table.
our first night we used the resturant in the evening. we ordered the house bread and it was literally 2 slices cut in half with butter for £4 a £1 for 1/2 slice which was ridiculous
the main meal i had the stuffed belly of pork and my friend had chicken. the veg came seperate . the food came from the kitchen uncovered so wasnt very hot.
we watched all food transported from kitchen uncovered which we were surprised at as the kitchen was away from the dining area.
the most disappointing thing was our treatment was cancelled but the lady at the spa telephoned us while we we were in the room when we went down to speak to her she apologised and said the hotel never let them know who is staying and it was cancelled because staff couldnt get in due to petrol problem, which was disappointing as that was why we were down there.
we were able to use the gym and the pool though which was a bonus
the grounds of the hotel are beautiful.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. We are so pleased you liked the grounds and enjoyed use of the leisure facilities. We do however apologise that you were disappointed with aspects of your room, I must say I was surprised to see you felt the room was dated or disliked the décor, as this is one of our most popular rooms and was more recently refurbished. We are also sorry that you had any issues with the bath, we were not aware of your recent hip replacement otherwise we could have allocated you a walk in shower. Furthermore, I do apologise that your treatments had to be cancelled due to staff absence, unfortunately sometimes these things do happen and they are beyond our control, nevertheless we do understand that this must have been disappointing. Please be assured that your comments about the food temperature and noise have been passed to our management team. It is a shame you did not raise these issues with a Duty Manager whilst you were here, as we would always prefer to rectify issues with our guests face to face. Nevertheless, we take all feedback on board and try to use it to ensure our services are always improving, so thank you for sharing your experience.

Like many others, my wife and I decided to book a staycation for the half term week and explore a new city with The Spa Hotel being our base. Due to Covid they have taken the step to not do a daily turn-down / housekeeping, and only service rooms upon request.
We had booked a deluxe room and initially were quite happy with the room. Despite it facing the main road, the glazing did a great job of keeping out the noise. Once we had figured out how to keep the A/C going it was also quite comfortable. However, there are a few bits that could be improved. The hotel has a rule that no food or drink are to be brought in, which presumably is more for alcohol and proper meals. But a refrigerator in the room would be a big improvement, as it was room service left us two bottles of water which were lukewarm by the time we checked in, a way to keep drinks cool would have been welcome. There is no towel rail in the bathroom, and only 1 radiator in the bedroom. So our towels didn't dry and the room smelt damp by the afternoon, which isn't ideal. The blinds in the room were very good at blocking light, but they didn't perfectly fit the windows so light would creep around and wake us each morning. Also, there were no USB slots in the room, whilst not essential, it is something I come to expect of better hotels. These were all little bits that would be easy to fix and would improve the room.
The downside for the hotel is the restaurant. Throughout our stay the service at the restaurant seemed disjointed and not the slick operation I would expect. Whether it was ordering the same drink 3 times, getting the wrong eggs at breakfast, or just being told that the orange juice sometimes tastes like pineapple. The breakfast service seemed a bit more organised than lunch / dinner, but not by much. I understand that a lot of the staff seemed like they may be new to the industry and learning the profession and there are also staff shortages so hopefully this is something that improves.
The reception staff were excellent throughout our stay, whether lending us umbrellas, sorting out issues with our rooms or getting us some firmer pillows. They made the stay a lot more pleasant than it may have otherwise been.

We are just back from a really lovely stay. Having read reviews on here prior to our trip I contacted the hotel and requested a newly decorated room as we were travelling with our young daughter and knew we would be spending evenings in our room. Our room was fabulous! Huge and very nicely decorated with a big bathroom. The only one thing missing was a fridge that would have been good for our daughter's milk etc..
The staff were all wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. Location is great - especially for a hotel with a pool!
Breakfast was included for us and we thoroughly enjoyed it. For children there is a £15 surcharge per night, this included a cooked breakast which we thought was very good.
There was a wedding during our stay but we didn't hear any noise at all and our room was above the function room.
All in all it was a fabulous weekend in a super hotel!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel as part of our anniversary celebrations. When booking, I had informed them that this was the reason for our stay, in the hope of of securing one of their garden view double rooms. However upon check-in we discovered, to our delight and amazement, that we had been upgraded to one of their indulgent suites - a name it lived up to!
The room was beautiful and spacious, with a king size bed, separate sitting area, a well stocked tea and coffee bar and stunning bathroom. The water pressure was amazing and I wasted no time in running a deep bath, enjoying the complimentary Espa toiletries to create a mountain of perfumes bubbles!
To add to the occasion, we found an anniversary card in our room, complete with two delicious macaroons - a lovely personal touch!
Although we didn’t eat during our stay there as we had other plans, the menu looked delicious.
Every staff member we encountered was polite and friendly, particularly the receptionists. The hotel decor throughout was stunning, and they have beautiful gardens to stroll through.

To celebrate the new year, I booked this wonderful hotel, which I'd stayed before, for my 2 children. I wasn't feeling well already when I came to help with the checking in and thought I'd stay in their room to rest for a bit. However I got worse very quickly and my children had to take me to the hospital and asked the reception lady on duty that evening to help order a taxi. She was very kind to come up to the room to see how I was and later got me a wheelchair. I ended up staying at the hospital for a few days. When I was discharged the hotel was very kind and had a spare bed for me in my children's room so they could take care of me. I'm very grateful to the thoughtful reception lady who helped me on the late evening of 2nd January, and the kind personnel who allowed a spare bed for me to stay in my children's room on 7th January. Thank you very very much.
The hotel is very elegantly decorated, the housekeeping team does an excellent job of keeping the hotel rooms and other areas sparkling clean, the reception and lobby lounge personnels are alway warm and friendly, and we love the beautiful garden too. Hope we'll get the chance to dine in the hotel restaurant in our next stay.
I highly recommend this hotel.

This was a two night family get away, to relax and explore Tunbridge Wells and it’s surroundings for the first time. The town is a short 10-15 min walk away on foot. First impressions when you arrive of this hotel are impressive. Ample parking for guests and a grand entrance to a very welcoming reception desk. Reception staff are plentiful, friendly and very helpful to ensure the best possible stay for guests. The historic features and decor of the hotel building have been preserved and tastefully modernised throughout, whilst keeping with original features. The outside areas of the hotel are well maintained for guests and a delight to walk around and take in the atmosphere.
Our room was spacious, comfortable and well equipped for a family stay. Of course, this is a Spa hotel and the facilities in this regard are excellent. We used the swimming pool on one occasion which was well maintained, quiet and the water of a good temperature. The dining room was a central feature of our stay, for dinner and breakfast, and deserves a special mention. Iain and his team at dinner were attentive and very accommodating to our requests and the food was always freshly cooked and tasty. Breakfast was also a pleasant experience, friendly waiting staff and with a wide range of hot and cold food on offer to hotel guests. In all we had a very relaxing stay and I can highly recommend the Spa Hotel.

Parking is outside and easy. The hotel is lovely stayed for work. Room was an exec room really big and big bathroom.
The restaurant for dinner and a different one for breakfast were both excellent with excellent service and good hot food and massive choice. I just had boiled eggs they were lovely.
In the room they provided a teapot and cup with saucer all bone china which was a lovely addition.
The bed linen and curtains were top quality and an excellent nights sleep.
My only reason for dropping to 4 stars was at lunch on the day I left.
We ordered tea & I asked count I please order a pot of hot water I explained I’m on a diet and wanted to add the hot water to my instant pot meal. I explained I was happy to pay for this. To which the lady ( long dark hair with an accent I’m unsure of ) stated I couldn’t eat anything that I hadn’t bought off them. I didn’t feel this was good customer service , I felt the response a little harsh in tone. Also I felt she could have asked if I had would put it in one of their bowls to disguise it and add a small charge as I stated I was on a strict diet.
I will return for an overnight as it was a lovely hotel I would like to see a little flexibility / understanding from staff that way I would give it 5 star.
Response from Spa Hotel, Guest Services / Front Office at The Spa Hotel
Responded Mar 5, 2020
Thank you for your kind feedback. We are so pleased you had an enjoyable stay with us and found the hotel was convenient for your business trip. We do however apologise that you felt service was harsh from a member of the team, we do have a company wide policy of not allowing guests to bring in food and drink from outside of the business so I am sure she was just trying to adhere to this, rest assured we will speak with the relevant team member to ensure this communicated better in future. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
