Nestled in a prime spot for exploring the Langdale Valley's splendors, the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel garners praise for its comfortable rooms with stunning views, though calls for refurbishment occasionally surface. Guests routinely commend the hotel's atmosphere and friendly staff, with special mention of the enjoyable food offerings. However, the appreciation is tempered by critiques of inconsistent housekeeping and service speed. Despite these concerns, many visitors find the hotel to provide good value, especially given its excellent location for nearby walks and experiences.

I booked a family room at relatively short-notice. It's a decent little hotel in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Our room was very nice, nothing to complain about. Clean, simple and lovely views. We didn't use the evening dining or bar, it just didn't seem necessary with Lanty Slee/Sticklebarn next door. Breakfast was about on average for the kind of hotel it is. Nothing spectacular, but not bad at all. A bit of choice, and decently cooked, but not 'hand-made sausages from rare Lake District pigs, reared on daffodils and clover'. So, not too bad at all. The room had two single beds and one double. All very comfortable. Hot water was very hot. Rooms could be very hot if you wanted them to be, as the heating was super hot! But, we opened the windows and let the fresh air in and turned off the radiators. It was lovely and cool and with brilliant Langdale air. So, I can heartily recommend the place. I just hope it stays open so we can return!

This is a lovely classic hotel in a beautiful scenic part of the Lake District with a warm and cosy pub bar. I stayed one night and had a great (clean) room, a tasty burger and a few pints. This is a lovely gem of a place to stay.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Food is good, both for breakfast and daytine/evening meals. All staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Perfect spot for hiking in the Langdales. We first stayed as a last minute thing in September when we decided to take on 9 Wainwrights! We loved it so much that we came back 3 weeks later to tackle another 8, and then booked to go again for my husbands birthday in December!!

Great hotel and glad to say since it has been taken over has affordable room rates for a night away. Grounds gorgeous and lovely views from the outside seating area over Langdale. Breakfast was excellent with good quality produce. Diane is a gem helpful, efficient and always a smile on her face. My only mild criticism is lack of dinner choice but that could of been because it was Sunday. We shall be back hopefully soon.

We are repeat visitors to this hotel and we are glad that we went back. We arrived early, no problem leaving car. Had a loooong walk and came back to a warm Reception and a beautiful superior room. Spotless, nice space, nice towels and great shower. Restaurant was busy with large parties so kitchen had to shut, BUT spoke to Fin/Phin and was sorted! Found us a table that we liked and all evening checked that everything was okay. Thanks Fin! Fabulous sleep in a very, very comfy bed in a quiet comfortable, dark room. Woke up ready for the delicious fresh breakfast that we were served, great food and great coffee. Wish that the young waitress could have been better - under staffed, yes, but please smile and apologise and welcome guests. The Spanish (?) Lady soon had the place organised with a huge grin. We will be back, you have an amazing hotel in a spectacular setting!

Lovely place and lovely location , shame about the food tho , evening meal I ordered sea bass , wasn’t cooked properly and the potatoes , I don’t know what they were but wasn’t nice , hubby got beef stew , had very little beef in it ! And defo was not homemade Yorkshire pudding . Breakfast 50 min wait and then was served cold , seamed very under staffed tbf , just expect better service with the money spent , think I’ve been spoilt staying in yhas , much comfier and better service and. Hell of a lot cheaper too ! Feel like the 24 hours I’ve been here I’ve spent 4 of them waiting to be served either for food or at the bar , also board outside advertising football games on , we made sure to be back in time to watch , to be told rugby was on instead , why advertise football ? So overall nit impressed sadly , bed and pillows shockingly iuncomfy

Visited for a long weekend with my son to do some walks. The hotel is perfectly situated to walk from the doorstep which we did both days. Once (low level due to the weather) to Slaters Bridge and the second up the Langdale Pikes. I'm pleased that I hadn't read a couple of the more recent Trip Advisor reviews before our visit as they would have put me off. However on balance we had an excellent stay. The twin room was comfortable, the bar well stocked and service extremely attentive and friendly. Yes the hotel could do with some decoration and a general spruce up but I didn't really expect anything different from a walking hotel at the price we paid. Food was pretty good overall. The breakfast (including the sausages) was well cooked and massive and set you up for a days walking. Food in the evening was ok - if somewhat limited. This was particularly the case on Sunday when they do roasts and the only other non vegetarian option was fish & chips. Not being a fan of roast dinners it was fish & chips for both of us. I wish I had realised this before hand as we may have visited the excellent Sticklebarn for dinner to get some choice. The fish & chips was fine it would just have been nice to have a bit more choice or be warned of this when booking the table. The packed lunches that could be ordered the night before were also fine - if somewhat basic. For example some chutney with the cheese sandwich might have been nice. As mentioned the bar was well stocked along with some interesting and well kept local ale. All the staff we spoke to were extremely friendly and helpful. Would we return - yes definitely.
