From the minute we walked in John, the manager, made us feel very welcome. The Hall is large and imposing with wonderful grounds - croquet lawn included - with views down to Coniston water. Beautiful arboretum for a short walk pre-dinner. The organisation of this place with the different demands of HF holidaymakers and more mainstream guests is a triumph.... More

I met with friends at this stunning country house. Breathtaking views over the lawns and enchanting walks through the gardens. The attentive staff almost knew what I needed before I asked. My room was well proportioned, clean and very welcoming after a long hill walk. The variety of food was matched by its quality.

This HF property is comprised of the old house and adjacent buildings plus the lovely arboretum and garden. It has fabulous views from the lake's northern end an from its lovely lawns, you can watch the steamer and other boats messing about on the water. The buildings are full of character and well kept up, which isn't easy in this... More

Spent a few days at this beautifully located property. The staff and food was excellent but the rooms were disappointingly drab and in need a makeover. The single beds are quite small so if you are of 6ft or more you may struggle.

We stayed a week at this 16th century mansion-turned-hotel owned by the National Trust and leased to HF Holidays. Friendly staff. Exquisite food. Great walking in the fells of Lake District. Views are spectacular. I highly recommend this destination.

Booked a fairly last minute trip to Lakes and came across Monk Coniston; so booked in advance. Travelled from Oxfordshire and we arrived late (11.45pm) but a member of staff was more than happy to wait up for us. Breakfast was excellent on both mornings and the view of the lake from the restaurant is beautiful. We were offered a... More

It seems that this place is mostly there for hosting large groups of middle aged couples on sightseeing tours. That's fine, but it's weird when you are literally the only one in the hotel not part of the group. In fact I wouldn't really describe it as a hotel, more of a tour centre based in a stately home. It... More
