Terrific setting for a family gathering in the Lake District. Booked 3 Pods and the large 'Gingerbread House' for the group that contained several YHA newbies, all of whom were pleasantly surprised with the facilities. The Pods are a must try, they were warm (heater included) and the beds were very comfortable. The site is well equipped with a large...

Took refuge here after several days on the hill. A welcome washer and dryer machine facilities, inc' a large cellar dry room. 👍 Chicken curry night in the restaurant so skipped using the large self catering kitchen. The hot showers, comfortable bed and good central heating were great. The staff were all friendly and chatty. Thanks for a pleasant stay😊

Definitely one of the best ways to tour the Lakes on a budget. Set right next to a lake, a 5 minute cycle ride from the town of Hawkeshead offering plenty of Beartrix Potter attractions and lots of pubs and restaurants. The breakfast on offer here is nothing fancy but one of the best I have had at a youth...

Amazingly managed to book a tipi on the morning we wanted to stay after a disastrous night camping elsewhere. The tipi was spacious and very comfortable, would have been better with a wood burning stove as it got a little cold but can't moan due to the price. The only down side was a slightly grumpy receptionist

Stayed 2 nights for our visit to Go Ape. Once again we had a great time. I asked my teen boys to go tablet/phone free for the weekend. They looked horrified! They did not miss them one bit and fully enjoyed whittling wood, building a fire and cooking outdoors. They are already planning our next visit.

Thanks for your kind review, I'm pleased that you all enjoyed your stay with us. As I'm sure you're aware, wifi is available, but that's great that your boys didn't miss it. We look forward to seeing you here again.

Returned today from 3 nights stay here, we stayed in a camping pod, kids loved it. Was a good experience, however recommend more for summer! The main house is great and will definitely look into staying in the rooms available in the house. Games/tv room saved the day with four little ones to entertain in dark evenings. Staff couldn't do...

Comfortable and cosy for a stay in Autumn. The self catering kitchen was extremely well stocked. Loved the fire baskets for a campfire in the evening. 15 min walk into the village so brilliant location. Will definitely return for another visit

My partner booked a night in one of the pods for us, as we were looking to take our toddler to the nearby Beatrix Potter attraction without breaking the bank. It's been a long time since I stayed in a hostel, and I was concerned that years of hotels and room service might have left me turning up nose up...

Not a bad YHA. Staff friendly and good service. We have stayed many times in Ambleside YHA and this one felt a little isolated compared but easily walked into Hawkshead for an evening meal as only a mile away. Breakfast good and bedrooms comfortable enough. Nice enough but our me I will try Ambleside again when on a walking weekend...

Thanks for your review. We pride ourselves on our rural location but appreciate that it is not to everyone's liking. I'm glad you will still be using YHA, even if it's not here at Hawkshead.
