So glad we booked this accommodation for our weekend away in the Lakes! Location is great, close to Kendal and Windermere and we visited Tarn Hows, Grasmere and Great Langdale which were short drives away. Hotel was spotlessly clean, very well thought out and we felt perfectly safe in the current climate. Other guests were kept well apart at breakfast for instance, all staff wore masks and gloves, juices were individually pre-poured and there was plenty sanitiser provided. Room was very spacious and beautifully decorated with high quality furnishings. The bed was so comfy and the shower amazing. Honesty bar with great prices, and nice areas to relax inside and out downstairs if you didn’t want to use the sofa in your room. Nothing too much trouble for the friendly and helpful staff, eg I am coeliac so they made a fully gluten free breakfast with gf toast. Lovely views and grounds, and a herd of wild deer in the nearby field at breakfast! Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

This is the second time we've stayed in this hotel, this time booked last minute for a weekend break in the lakes.
Location is near to Kendal (15 min taxi journey) where there are plenty of pubs and restaurants.
Hotel was very clean and staff were super friendly on arrival - making us feel very at home, we felt very safe as everyone wore masks, gloves and kept a distance.

The bed was really comfy and the room had great views of the surrounding area. We didnt have one of the amazing baths this time but the shower was great.
Breakfast was good - the menu was understandably limited, the only thing that would make it even better would be a vegan/vegetarian option.
Would definitely recommend this hotel if you want a relaxing stay in the lakes!

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. The location, whilst against a road, feels secluded and remote. The back of the building looks out onto the most tranquil landscape. There is countryside to roam amongst belonging to the inn also. Unfortunately due to the current circumstances, we weren't able to make use of the sauna and hot tub, but the view from them looks spectacular. There is a balcony on the lower floor with seating looking out into the countryside. The decor inside is unique and so homely. There is also a fully equipped honesty bar, which is such a lovely touch. The rooms are all uniquely decorated and you can select from the list of options on their website which you'd prefer. We stayed in the Hare, which whilst it was not my first choice, was so much more beautiful than we were expecting. The Hare looks out into the countryside and has the comfiest bed and sheets I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping on/in. Breakfast was also to a very high standard! We had absolutely no complaints about our stay, pretty much everything was perfect, including the more than reasonable price. We cannot wait to stay here again some time in the near future, and try out a different room! Thanks so much Matt

I read the recent reviews so my expectations where high, unfortunately we didn’t get the welcome when we booked in for our one night stay. No one introduced themselves as we were taken to our room. Yes the room was nice with lovely views but the cups had not even been washed, tray not clean. Bathroom toilet brush holder full of black slime. So how clean was this room? No one around to sort this out! There have been a few problems recently at the hotel and it is now back in the hands of the owner
I knew there would be no Bar or food available during our stay, which was not an issue but I think a little bit more effort could have been given to our breakfast the following morning. (No menu? No Toast, No Marmalade)
We were the only ones in the hotel that night, does that mean they didn’t have to try!
Whether it’s a one night stay or a long weekend, the service should be the same and if they are trying to get their clientele back, it needs to get the basics right especially at the prices they are charging.
There certainly were no little extras!
I’m pleased we were only booked in for one night.

Such a shame about the other reviews as we found our stay lovely!maybe they are down to covid and Booking.com messing up bookings. We had a phone call from him to apologise and to sort it out but that was no trouble to us!

We had a down stairs room (the pheasant) that lead straight out to the garden and down the hill to the stream!
Our dogs loved it, the rooms are lovely spacious, we had a shower and a bath and sky TV. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the fields over the back are lovely to walk the dogs round every morning and as we were in a heatwave us and the dogs cooled off in the stream, which goes above your waist in parts and perfect for a paddle.
On two occasions we saw Roe deer and our dogs put a up a hare across the hill! The views are equally lovely and we watched a storm rolling in one night.

The honesty bar was fantastic and the decor is right up our street, bar was very cheap.
Shame the restaurant isn't running I would assume covid has paused it for the time being, hopefully by next year it might be up and running again! The breakfast was delicious and the dogs got a sausage every morning. Lovely touch!

The owner is laid back and a nice guy. very good value for money.
We will be back!

We stayed for 3 nights as a short honeymoon break because our original trip was cancelled. Communication from Keith before arrival was much appreciated, with detailed instructions on how to find our room incase we arrived after they'd left (which we did!) No problem finding our room and we were thrilled with the space. The Robin room was like a suite so there was plenty of room for the two of us and it was a perfect base for trips to Kendal, Bowness, Windermere, Ambleside and Hawkshead. We also enjoyed evening meals at nearby pubs each night, all within a 10 minute drive. Breakfast each morning was brilliant and set us up for the day - fruits, yogurts, cereals and also full English options.
We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

we stayed in the fox room (definitely recommend) which was just perfect, and the view of outside was what we wish we could wake up to every morning! breakfast was good and even though it was a limited menu, they were flexible with what you wanted to order. even though everything was about a 15 minute drive, the location for us was perfect and the staff were all so lovely. we would definitely stay here again.

Firstly, we had initially booked in January through booking . Com as non refundable but due to circumstances beyond our control were unable to visit. The hotel very kindly offered to rearrange the visit for us and we have therefore stayed in march.

We were unaware that the restaurant and bar were no longer in service which was disappointing as this is one of the reasons we initially booked.

Friendly welcome from the owner on arrival.

The room was stunning and the view truly incredible.

However, when I went back upstairs to talk to someone about dinner recommendations the timing was lucky as the owner was leaving and therefore I don't think there would have been anyone there to help if we had needed it.

Friendly chap at breakfast working hard on his own to provide good service. The breakfast itself was good.

We would stay here again when the bar and restaurant is back up and running. It is a beautiful hotel just very clearly not at it's best at the moment.

We ate at the brown horse in winster for Sunday lunch which was really good. Would definitely recommend eating here even if you don't stay at this hotel.

I am a little confused by some of the recent reviews on here as for me they couldn’t be further from my experience.
We stayed in the Nutty Squirrel room on 6th Aug and thought the room was just adorable. The room and bathroom was spotlessly clean and well decorated, the shower was incredible and felt great after a long day walking.
We found the staff really friendly and helpful on the phone as we were checking in late, and in the morning they were really attentive and cooked a really good breakfast that was fast and good quality. We were made to feel very welcome.

The outdoor seating is a beautiful spot to watch the sun go down with a drink and lovely to sit and eat breakfast. If it is raining, the indoor area is really well decorated and homely.

Overall I absolutely loved the stay. I am already looking at a potential re-visit!

Considering the unusual circumstances caused by CV19, the staff here handled it very well.
The only food service was breakfast and it was excellent, very good choice and well prepared.
The location lends itself well to the lakes and local towns, set in its own grounds, there is an opportunity to enjoy fresh are and short walks
Would certainly stay again.
