4 of us stayed in 2 rooms for 2 nights earlier in the week. Felt very Covid safe, handle on main door into hotel automatically dispensed sanitizer, temperature taken upon check-in, sanitizer placed around the hotel plus tables spaced well both in the bar lounge and dining room.
Staff all really friendly and polite, I always feel more appreciative when senior management are seen doing other roles such as table cleaning, serving in breakfast room , reception roles etc. Hotel recently refurbished, biscuits with tea/coffee tray and cardboard disposable cups, bar of soap and shower gel supplied, full length mirror and hair dryer also supplied plus fans available if not already in room. I don't see the point of towels being on the bed, should be placed in the bathroom but that is personal preference.
Had breakfast both mornings, good quality produce and quickly served....once by assistant manager.
There IS complimentary parking available across the road once car registration is given at reception and a card placed in windscreen. Small bar in the lounge, again served by really friendly and polite chap.
Train station access also across the road and bus station not far away.
Lots of restaurants, cafes , pubs/bars within 5/10 walk.
Overall would definitely recommend this hotel especially the lovely helpful staff! Thank you for looking after us.

We were a little apprehensive about booking a hotel during the current COVID situation but the hotel did as as much as it could to avoid contact with contaminated surfaces even Fred the manager carried out cleaning of surfaces with his antibacterial spray and cloths.
The hotel itself is a 10 min Easy walk into town with plenty of parking close by, we were fortunate to be given a beautiful room which overlooked the main road across from the railway station it was a little noisy from the traffic if the windows were open but it was quiet at night. Food was excellent with a good selection and good size portions. All the staff worked so hard and were really friendly and could not be faulted although some guests could find something to complain about as a pastime.
Entertainment was obviously very difficult with current regulations Fred the manager gave short talks on two evening which were really entertaining and informative for anyone who decides to sit and listen ,he is a true gentleman and manager backed up by excellent staff.

The hotel has been refurbished to a high standard, the staff were welcoming and informative, the room was warm and cosy, room 210, and the meals were varied and well cooked if sometimes on the cool side. Bar prices were as to be expected although usually had to look to reception for service, just popped your head around the door from the bar, not surprised at this as most other guests did not drink much apart from the "cheap" night. Entertainment was provided each night , the vocalists were good but difficult to appreciate the solo pianists due to the noise of other guests playing cards etc.. No lifts available at our visit but on going work to provide them soon. Not a problem for us and staff were available for anyone wanting help. A good rest spoilt only by inclement weather but still plenty to see and do. Could have been worse for time of year, mild and showers but no snow.
Booked with Daish's but travelled by train.

We went on an organised coach trip with Daish's coaches who also own the hotel. it was with some friends from church and other people who live in our locality that did not know. The bedroom was large and well appointed with an ensuite bathroom, the hotel has been refurbished quite recently. Our room was on the third floor on the side of the hotel which faced the main road and was quite noisy, we had to close the windows at night to cut out the noise.
The meals were at first disappointing but improved after we had been there a couple of days, apparently a different chef made quite a difference to the temperature and appearance of the food. The portions were quite small and the staff did not seem to want to give us any more when requested. I agree with one of the previous reviews about the breakfast if you don't like deep fried it's probably best to avoid it. We did not go in to the lounge for bingo etc as that doesn't really appeal to us but would be comfortable for those who do.
The hotel is well situated for Kendal and travel to other lake district areas and I would recommend it if you like coach trips.

We booked this last minute as a base whilst we explored the Lake District mountain biking trails. We were very happy with the covid precautions in place (sanitising door handles, everyone wearing face coverings etc). The hotel has relied heavily on coach tours in the past (which has led to some of the negative comments) but the new manager is trying to refocus and appeal to everyone. They are in the process of setting up a secure bike store area and washing and drying facilities for walkers/bikers. The hotel has recently introduced a half board option. The food off the menu was fine but with limited choices could be repetitive if staying for longer periods ( you’re not paying top prices so don’t expect fine dining) All the staff were lovely and couldn’t do enough to help especially Chef, Alex and Rob. We would definitely go back.

We are local residents that visited the hotel for lunch on Sunday. There was Hand Sanitizers on the front door and our temperature was checked at reception. There was also a one way system in place and all staff were wearing face masks.

The hotel has a very warm and cosy feel to it - it also looks great after the recent re-decorating.

The service was prompt and we were shown to a table in the restraunt and offered a warm bread roll, a nice little touch. The food was lovely - a traditional Beef roast dinner with a huge Yorkshire Pudding.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming and went the extra mile is arranging an early breakfast for us.
The room was clean and had lots of storage space, including wardrobe; chest of drawers; desk; and two bedside tables.
In the bathroom there was a large towel heater with good quality thick towels and again lots of shelf space. The shower was huge!
Our room was nice and quiet, we couldn't hear the bar which had music playing.
Beds were comfortable with pillows and cushions and a normal TV that worked easily.
For me the main thing was the friendly staff, they said hello every time we went past reception and were really welcoming at check-in.

we booked this in the day for £60 inc breakfast for a double room with breakfast, Great Covid measures in place and the room was a good size, although it appeared clean there was spilt coffee on the window sill of which I made reception aware! just a little issue but they really should be wiping all surfaces.. the room was on the main road side and we didn't sleep well at all as it was extremely noisy and only single glazed glass! breakfast wasn't of a high quality but the staff were very attentive. we enjoyed our stay in Kendal but I would request a quieter room.

My first impressions when arriving at the hotel, after a pleasant coach journey, were that it was clean, well presented and warm. The staff welcomed us and we were pleased with our comfortable room and bathroom. There was very little noise, considering it overlooked a very busy road junction. The food was basic but well presented and hot. There was a set meal time and staff were frantically trying to serve everyone at once.
Sadly things went downhill when there was no heating or hot water on the second night and no communication as to what the problem was. The only information we were given was that there were no poached eggs for breakfast. We returned to the hotel after a day out only to find the problem unresolved. We found out from our lovely driver, Ryan, that it was a gas main fault. It was fixed later that night. Not the hotels fault, but some acknowledgement of the discomfort and impact on our holiday would have been appropriate.
Guests were requested to leave their keys on reception when leaving the hotel. However there is a woeful lack of security, with the desk often unmanned and the door left open. Keys were left under the desk.
Housekeeping was hit and miss. Our room was not made up the first day. The following days the beds were made but used towels left on the floor until we left.
This was a great value break and could have been so much better with more communication and attention to guests needs.

I can wholeheartedly recommend staying at the Daish’s County Hotel in Kendal to anyone who’s considering where to take their next UK holiday. We’ve just had a short 5 day stay at the County over the Easter bank holiday weekend. Our room on the first floor of this hotel seemed excellent value for money for what we paid; the double room and adjoining bathroom were surprisingly spacious, tastefully decorated, and the king sized bed had freshly laundered sheets. We weren’t expecting luxury for the price of this trip, but were definitely pleasantly surprised with all aspects of the hotel. The breakfast and evening menu choices were fine, so no complaints there either; and while there were a few last minute adjustments to the set plan as regards to seating arrangements in the dining room, and some short delays in us being served our food, we must say that all staff members tried their best to serve us from the room maid to the manageress (even though the hotel was evidently short staffed). Overall, it’s been pretty good here for us, so I’d like to thank the staff for making this holiday rather memorable for us, and not least for the extra special little things like the chocolate sweet on Easter Day at the dinner table, and the free coach excursion to Lake Windermere. We been equally impressed with the fantastic scenery here, and some of views of the Lake District have left us with the impression that this is probably the most beautiful part of England — with Peter Jordanou.
