Arrived for a two night new years package deal and we had a cracking time.
We checked in very easily, the young lady was very pleasant and welcoming, our room was clean, lovely big bed and very nice, clean bathroom. Our deal included an afternoon tea so that was our first stop after our journey up the motorway and what a very pleasant start it was. A selection of sandwiches, scones, cakes and of course tea left us stuffed and the very pleasant Leanne, made our time there very enjoyable indeed, a drink or two in the bar and our stay was off to a great start.
Our NYE party started with champagne reception with some nice canapes, we didn't realise the server was actually the manager, we only found this out later, but he was extremely pleasant and couldn't do enough in giving us advice on the local area. We were then led to our table, the area seemed to be two smallish rooms that were connected by another room that they used as the buffet area. The starters were served at the table, the main course and dessert were buffet, all were really tasty and large portions, the disco was very good but since most of the diners were the older end, the dance floor wasn't too busy even when the likes of "Dancing Queen" were played. However, most people were having a great time and the evening was a success.
Breakfast was great, served hot with very pleasant waitresses, but the evening meal we had was superb. I had steak and ale pie which I thought was the best I'd ever had, and I've had a few, my wife had the Lamb Henry which was sooo tender, we struggled to have a dessert but when I said I liked custard the waitress brought me a separate jug to go with my sticky toffee pudding, which was so light and tasty.
The one problem that I found, and it was just my opinion, the duvet was too thick for me, I was roasting during the night so didn't sleep too long, but the hotel, staff, location and food we had were of the highest quality and this one little thing would not put me off giving this hotel a great rating and would recommend highly. We would definitely return.

Crooklands is a great place to stay when visiting the Lake District - approx 30 mins away from main attractions such as Windermere along with little villages like Cartmel
Rooms are large and too a good spec. Excellent bathrooms. The restaurant is great value with a full choice of menu
Staff are very helpful when contacting ahead of visit and in current climate they have worked hard to ensure you feel you are having a safe stay

We booked a table for lunch. Easy parking outside the doors in large flat car park. Felt safe and proper attention paid to COVID cleaning. A nice touch is a sign on each table saying it had been sanatized before use. Great food delivered promptly and a choice of 2 real ales on the bar. I never trust a bar that has too many real ales on draft as I think this beer only stays really fresh once tapped 3-4 days. Friendly staff made for a very good visit.

My wife's birthday treat, a 3 night stay at Crooklands hotel.
I booked a deluxe room, size was good but let down by shabby bedside cabinets. The ensuite bathroom was very good with plentiful hot water.

The bar area was excellent with some nice real ales. Staff were all very pleasant & helpful in all areas.

We had informed the hotel in our booking & at each mealtime that my wife has coeliacs disease, so all her food must be gluten free. The first morning my wife ordered scrambled eggs on GF toast, it was a very small meal. Second morning we ordered the full English breakfast, good for me, but not for my wife, the items that contained gluten were not replaced with GF items, so she got half a breakfast. One evening we both ordered a roast dinner, it came looking good except potatoes, 2 marble size new potatoes & 3 tiny pieces of hard roast potato that looked to have been finished in a chip pan. My wife said it was the worst roast dinner she'd ever had, beef was good.
On the last morning I had the poached haddock for breakfast, what happened to that, it had a hard dry surface like it had been under a grill. All in all, the kitchen lets the hotel down.

For £145/night B&B I expected better. Evening meals were not too expensive but lacking quality on occasion.

I had been on 3 occasions previously for meals, once in Sept 2017 & twice in Sept 2020, the food was excellent on all 3 visits.

The parking is very spacious, more than enough room for everybody. The location is good for visiting the lakes or the dales, we did both.

Hi Odefrt Thanks for your review. I'm disappointed to read you weren't happy with the food. We regularly cater for all different types of food allergies, including gluten free and our menus have various different options for guests with food allergies. The kitchen team are the same team that have been here for many years and are very highly praised by our guests and regular customers on a daily basis. I hope you can try us again in the future

The hotel is in a lovely location, close to the motorway, but rural. My room was beautiful, with all the facilities I could expect, and was very clean, and a very good size. Staff were very friendly and the general atmosphere was cosy and very pleasant.
On Trip Advisor it states free breakfast, but I was told breakfast was £11 extra, or £7 continental. (I was not charged for this in the end). I had continental breakfast, and was not offered croissant or toast, or white or brown bread, but just given toast.
My main concern was Covid. Tables in the restaurant were close together, only one member of staff wore a mask (including serving staff) and my room window was closed when I entered, when I expected it to be open to let out airborne virus, as other hotels were (it was warm enough to do so). I know masks can't be enforced for customers now, but I would have expected staff to show an example. This would stop me staying here again while covid is still around, as I felt very uneasy..

Hi Jules Thanks for your review. It's good to read that you liked the room and our friendly staff. We offer 3 room rates. Room only, bed & breakfast and dinner, bed & breakfast. You had booked a room only rate which is why your breakfast was charged extra. Covid will be around for a long time and I understand some people feel more apprehensive than others. Our aim is for all our guests to enjoy their stay with us whilst feeling safe at the same time. Whilst we have relaxed some rules many of our precautions have stayed in place. We want to provide our guests with as "normal" an experience as possible to enjoy a short break that they have waited so long for. Our Covid policies are constantly under review, currently they are as follows: As per government guidelines face coverings for both staff and guests are optional. Our tables are spaced with 1 metre+ space between each table. Tables are sanitised before they are used again. Hand sanitising stations are located throughout the building. Elevated cleaning and sanitising of all guest rooms and public areas. Elevated cleaning to all touch points. We will always try to accommodate any requests guests have, either before their arrival or during their stay. If you would have liked the window to be left open in your bedroom prior to your arrival housekeeping would have gladly arranged this for you. I hope to to welcome you back to the Crooklands in the future.

We booked for three nights to attend a family funeral. Reception staff are pleasant and extremely helpful. We overheard the manager Viv, dealing with a couple moaning about the size of their bed. He dealt with them very professionally yet putting his point and hotel policy across. I’d have not had the same patience! The same in the restaurant. The manager, Viv and staff member Janet were extremely helpful and friendly with good local knowledge. Breakfast was of good quality, choice and was hot. No complaints there. We had dinner on one of the nights, food was good, plentiful and hot but just a bit “pubby”. Little choice for a meal with vegetables and the same menu each night. The room was clean...ish. Bathroom, spotless and wooden furniture in the room was clean if not a little shabby and old. Covid rules had been adhered to....except.....the skirting boards were covered in dust, this was apparent on the day we arrived so not an accumulation during our stay. The bed was probably the most uncomfortable we have ever slept in, it was like a board. We had to ask for a third pillow they were so thin and even then seem to make no impression. Noise was incessant, mainly from traffic and lorries turning up early in the morning but also from inconsiderate guests slamming heir doors at godforsaken hours. There was no housekeeping for our stay so had to continually ask for teabags, milk, toiletries top ups. Apparently a Covid rule, we were told. It may have been better if each day a top up had been left in a bag on our door if staff were not allowed in the room. The TV handset didn’t work and even after asking for new batteries it still was very temperamental so we just gave up trying. In summary, not a bad place for a short or overnight B and B.

We were staying in Kendal on a break and went to Crooklands to celebrate my daughter's wedding anniversary.
The protocol for Covid was very good with staff wearing visors and a separate entry/exit door ensuring one way.
The service from the lady who was our waitress was very good throughout. She was friendly and gave a good explanation of how things would operate.
The other barman (Louis?) took a drinks order from one of our party but, after half an hour, it was obvious that he had forgotten. When we went up to the bar to remind him, another lady brusquely asked us to go back to our seats and wait.
The food was fine, reasonable quality. The bill came to £100 for 5 people, which would have been high if it weren't for the governments eating out discount, which brought it back to £60 which was more reasonable, considering.

Crooklands has become our meeting place for family get togethers. The food is always lovely and well presented. I like the way that the serving staff now ask what vegetables you want rather than risk wastage. The pineapple fritters served with the gammon are so lovely they should be on the menu as a dessert dish.
Our only disappointment was that it was Pancake Day and pancakes weren't on the menu. However, we were served with what we wanted as a sweet. Looking forward to our next visit.

Having first visited Crooklands 54 years ago (yikes I am old now but I was only 4yrs old then) we treated the children to lunch back in 1996 and it was as good as ever.
So for my wife's birthday this January I decided to treat my grandchildren (plus dog) to lunch (hot roast meat sandwiches) at Crooklands.
Yet again it was as good as ever in-fact it was excellent.
The food was served promptly by very pleasent, polite and attentive staff.
Various hand pulled beers were consumed to help wash down the food and all were served impeccably.
Prior to lunch we had walked the dog on the beach at Arnside and had a hot mug of bovril on the front.
Once the kids had left for home we settled in the lounge infront of the log burner for the obvious bottle of Pinot Blush (not a wine buff but v.nice).
Retreat to the spacious immaculately clean bedroom for a siesta on the massive crisp sheeted bed.
After a hot powerful shower/bath glad rags on we went down for more Pinot and a gorgeous event meal.
After a really good nights sleep (very comfy bed) we enjoyed an excellent breakfast plenty of choice both hot and cold.

You may ask why we leave it so long in between trips....well I can't answer that but I will say that we will be back again and again asap.
Well done to the new owners and ALL the staff.
Sean Hardaker

I was really impressed by the Crooklands Hotel. The staff were all fabulous - friendly, courteous and professional. My room was far nicer than I was expecting, nicely decorated with nice furniture. The bathroom was like brand new and the shower in the morning was brilliant and really woke me up. We had dinner in the evening and even though it was really busy, our table was looked after to the highest of standards, everyone's food was delicious and the service was impeccable. There was a really nice atmosphere throughout. Really impressed and will definitely stay again. Great value for money too. Finally - loads of free parking with lots of space so no worriesd about anyone opening their door into your pride and joy!
