A basic pub in the town. No garden outside and a little stayed with quite a few old people when we visited. Drinks choice ok bit did not stay for food. Nice furniture and fixings and some friendly people that seemed to be regulars. Not bad but lots of other choice in town.

JP Thank you for your comments although you may have upset our designer who oversaw the refurbishment last June. Mark

Went with friends on a busy Saturday night, good atmosphere but went a little quiet late on after the diners had left. Food was of a good standard with no complaints from our party, we had black pudding, squid, gammon, steak and sausage so tried a range across the menu. Service was very efficient and curtious. Would recommend and would...

Very busy, but they found us a table quickly. Great food, warm, cosy booth above the main bar. Fish and chips was enormous and came with mushy peas. Steak average, not outstanding. It was a Saturday evening, so glad we managed to get a quiet section in the bar.

Hi Helen Thank you for your comments and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. We take great pride in the quality of the steaks we serve so I'll be reviewing the steaks with the head chef with a view to making sure we are presenting the guest with premium quality meat. Mark

My wife and I met her Canadian cousins here on Bank Holiday Monday. Rooms excellent, quirky touch being metal trays outside rooms for muddy boots. General finish of hotel excellent. Our evening meal was excellent, the steak and ale pie particularly tasty. Lively banter with staff made evening. Tip, in Keswick you really need to reserve a table for evening...

We were recommended to this pub , so we booked ( 8 adults + 4 young boys) we were made very welcome , children's menu was great not a chicken nugget in sight ! Reasonably priced good wine , very good food . And patient staff when the boys needed to move around once they had eaten .

We booked to dine at The Royal Oak for my birthday tea. The quality of the food was appalling. The battered fish and onion rings were inedible and I wouldn't serve the dinner they presented our 4 year old son with to my dog. So disappointing. Didn't stop for pudding!!!!

We visited here with a group of family and friends in July to round off our wedding celebrations! It's a great pub and the attention to detail in the decor is really obvious. Huge selection of drinks, from ales to ciders and wines, staff are really helpful and friendly. Our friends stayed over here and thought it was great too,...

Lovely hotel albeit parking was a nightmare. The room was lovely with hairdryer and lovely hand knitted teapot cover ... a sheep. Coffee and tea facilities were ample. Only downside was the bar/restaurant area. Unless u were eating and had booked there was no seating for just a drink in comfort. The breakfast was great and would come back like...

Stayed one night in twin room. Could hardly move around! Also walls were thin, could hear next door and bar downstairs . However, very comfortable beds and good breakfast (shame marmalade was in those horrible little sachets). Coffee good, but staff not very attentive.

Wonderful meal. Excellent service. We felt very welcome and looked after throughout. Our dog was fussed over and was fine to join us for our meal. Prices were not too expensive individually but it can add up if you have all courses. Very pleasant experience. Did need to go in and book in advance on the day.
