Booked this the day before travelling and was very happy. Recommend driving straight to the back on arrival where you will find a lovely reception and bar area. The archway is very narrow but we fitted a Freelander though it, so just travel slowly! The decor throughout was lovely and arriving on a cold wintry December evening, everything was very cosy. We had to go into the bar to check in and the welcome was friendly and quick. As the area was to go into tier 4 overnight, it was explained that as we were already there and booked in, breakfast would be offered the next morning still. We had room 4 which was comfortable and well maintained. The bathroom was modern and everything was very clean. We had everything we needed and we were impressed by the little details - curtains closed and lights turned on in anticipation of our arrival. It was also very warm with radiators on and these were fully adjustable when we warmed up. We had a lovely stay here and the breakfast the next morning was delicious. We did struggle to find the breakfast room (through the bar, go through the door ahead, turn left) so maybe a sign could have helped. Everything however was very easy and the staff were so friendly and chatty. All COVID guidelines were kept to and I certainly felt bad for the owners and staff for having to close again with a few hours warning. The only thing I would add is more vegetarian food offerings for breakfast (not sure about dinner as I didn’t see the menu). Wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

We booked this based on reviews we read and were not disappointed. Location is perfect as it wasn’t in the middle of touristy areas but everywhere was easily accessible from the Hotel.
The room was compact but extremely clean and we were offered lovely fresh sandwiches on arriving.
We had the 3 course evening meal with wine and were pleasantly surprised at our final bill as well as the availability of half portions of puddings- what a great idea !
The place has a really warm atmosphere and the staff were all extremely friendly, efficient and helpful ( especially as I have just broken my ankle and need a bit more space)
the breakfast the following morning which was included with our room was freshly cooked and delicious.
We would highly recommend this place and will be back

Situated in the centre of Stainton village, this hotel is just 2 miles from J40 of the M6 and well placed for visiting the Eden valley and the northern Lakes. We stayed 2 nights on a dinner bed and breakfast deal and found it good value. Our rooom was a good size but slightly spoilt bu having a single bed as well as a double and this obviously took up a fair bit of room.breakfast and dinners were excellent with a good choice of both. Staff were very friendly and quite a few locals used the bar in the evenings, giving the place a good atmosphere.

Booked as a stop back from Bridgend. Absolute delight. We were tired and held up badly on M6. So good to just flop and get top quality good value favourites in the restaurant. Very warm welcome, lovely huge bed in cosy bedroom and spotlessly clean. Great bathroom and towels We will definitely use again. Competitively priced fuel just off Junction 40 was a bonus and hotel is only 3 miles beyond. Good breakfast, would love to have local yogurts, not fat free, and some fresh fruit but a very minor quibble. Marmite please! However, lemon served with tea so THANK YOU! Highly recommend. You really will not get a warmer welcome.

We stayed at The Brantwood this weekend as we were competing in a charity marathon nearby. It was perfect! Special mention for the comfy bed. Room was clean, plenty of teas/coffee. Lovely staff. Nothing too much trouble. As we were setting off early on the event day a cold breakfast was brought to the room the night before. Would stay here again for sure. Thank you

Well located in a quiet village close to M6 and 20 odd mins to Keswick and 40 mins from Kendal.
Busy small hotel with nice rooms, restaurant and garden.
Service great from start to finish, nice room with comfortable bed, decent modern bathroom.
Food was plentiful and very tasty.
Couldn't have been more helpful, we had tele in conservatory so we could watch Cav win another Tour stage 😀
Excellent value for money.

The room was spotlessly clean with lovely bedlinen, fluffy towels and a large comfortable bed. The location was quiet with plenty parking and easy to find. It was wet but we arrived to a cosy bar with the log fire burning. The bar area and restaurant had a mix of locals and guests using them. Everyone was friendly with great attention to detail. You were made to feel special. The service in the restaurant was attentive but not fussy. The food was delicious with lots of local produce and reasonably priced. I could not fault this place in any way and would recommend it to anyone.

Was recommended here for a special birthday meal. While most of the food was good/nice one meal arrived that was different from menu description. When it was sent back we were confronted by an older grumpy waitress who wanted to know what the problem was and suggested that if we didn’t like a certain food we should mention it before ordering. The fact that a major part of the dish was completely missing in the menu description escaped her. She was abrupt and really spoiled the evening as we ended up eating at separate times.
Will not go back here unfortunately. Extremely limited menu for anyone vegetarian or vegan also.

I am most disappointed to hear this feedback. We very rarely receive any negative comments so this is most upsetting. Please can you e mail me on Enquiries@brantwoodhotel.co.uk So I can understand your complaint and respond appropriately. Many thanks Richard Langley

I cannot comment on the venue's facilities inside. However, after a long walk and completing Helvellyn, we were in search of some food - Brantwood were providing takeaway meals and were really happy to provide, even though we weren't form the area and hadn't booked or called in advance. Very helpful gentleman, allowing us to order our food from a large menu despite the pandemic. It was brought to us very quickly, it was delicious and served piping hot. Very happy customers!

We arranged a one night stay as part of a trip to the Lakes. This was our second visit and we were not disappointed , staff were friendly and welcoming and level of cleanliness was excellent. Dinner in the restaurant was really nice as was the breakfast, which set us up for a day of exploring the area. We would certainly visit again
