Detailed Reviews
We found this hotel via booking.com when we decided to stay over whilst visiting Pooley Bridge rather than driving the two hours home. We arrived and went into the restaurant where we were amazed to see they accommodate for people with allergens. My wife who is gluten and wheat intolerant had an amazing meal but also she had numerous choices of meals from the menu. Room was ensuite but compact, TV coverage hit and miss but in the winter they have a woodburning stove roaring away in the bar. Breakfast is like a feast and again allergens catered for. An amazing find we will be visiting again

Have just got home after a lovely post Christmas meal at this pub. The owners were so friendly and welcoming and the food was superb.....very extensive menu, freshly cooked, beautifully presented and very reasonably priced. We used to come here often but stopped when it first changed hands. However now it has different owners (they have been there about 18 months) we will definitely be back and can thoroughly recommend it.

We popped in for dinner after noticing a sign on the A66, and this was easily one of the best moments of our entire holiday. We were able to be accommodated despite not booking in advance, and the food was absolutely excellent - both the fish and chips and the burger are highly recommended. The staff was warm and hospitable and made every effort to align with social distancing policies. A top-notch example of the best that countryside pubs have to offer.

We booked one night here (Thursday) at the last minute to break up our journey from Aviemore to Somerset. The staff were very friendly, the room was small, but very clean and comfortable with a small ensuite. There was an aditioanl charge of £10 per night for the dog. We ate dinner in the bar that evening and the food was standard 'pub-grub' - tasty but not fancy. The gluten free options were limited, especially on the breakfast menu. Breakfast is included in the room price.

Sadly disappointed after reading the good reviews. Went for Sunday lunch and received a stingy portion with very average quality food. We did see some of the other food come out which looked a lot better.
I would advise others to choose other items off the menu to avoid disappointment.

We’ve been here a few times over the years but this was the first time in a while - and a happy evening it was too. Really friendly welcome from the landlord and our waitress, the decor’s got a clean and modern feel without the pub losing its historic charm (and the Halloween elements were pitched just right - fun but not overwhelming), and the food’s good quality pub grub that’s attractively presented. Mum particularly loved her lamb casserole and dumplings, and for all three of us the crème brûlée was a sweet highlight (& a large one too). Top marks - and we’ll be back!

Booked a table and knew the place had changed hands a few times in past few years. We aslo noted that the menu is subject to change so were extremely pleased with the choice we had on the night. We were looking forward to well prepared freshly made food with flavour and boy did we get that in bundles!
The gentleman was in on his own due to number of covers that night and we appreciated his honesty as soon as we arrived, explaining certain cuts in costs of staff etc and readons behind it. This was certainly not the case in quality of the food though. We were all extremely impressed with both quantity and quality. The flavours of the pate and the pork belly had to be shared with the rest of the family.
We had helpful suggestions, offers and a nice friendly chat - which was missing from our more local restaurant in Dockray.
Tika is lovely as we enjoy dogs but she is a cunning little trixter at times. But who can blame her with the smells coming from our food. As soon as she became too nosy she was told off and kept behind the bar. This is the lakes and everywhere accepts dogs.... if they didn't then we wouldnt visit as often.
All in all a fantastic meal that truly delivered.
Price wise - there are a lot of places in the Lakes that charge similar and have nowhere near the same level of preparation or flavour as an end result. Can you get cheaper ? Yes of course. If you want cheap stop off at a burger van. If you want flavour .... then book up try this place out and you won't be disappointed.
On food alone this would be a five star.
Will return .
Easy to find, good parking, honest friendly chat with none of our usual southern flannel.

Arrived late afternoon and was booked in by the gentleman behind the bar, very efficiently despite the fact that it was busy. My friend and I was shown to our room #4, a delightful twin room. So pretty. It had so many lovely touches, a small bottle of Harrogate water, each by our bedside with an ample sized glass. The usual tea and coffee making facilities with yummy biscuits. Plenty of tea bags and lots of milk, you don’t always get enough in some establishments. The room was beautiful turned out. Two very ample single beds with crisp white bed linen., a gorgeous duvet and pillows to die for. The TV was a good size for the room and positioned with care for the occupants at eye level. The shower/toilet room was a tad small but we were only staying one night so it was more than adequate. We ate at the Inn, can highly recommend the belly pork, delicious. The restaurant was busy but at no time were we kept waiting. So impressed with this great find, I would highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our meal and visit to the Herdwick Inn. Steak, lamb shank, apple crumble and chocolate brownie, bottle of merlot all very tasty. Owners going out of their way to follow covid guidelines and the team are lovely and friendly.

We stumbled across this gem of a pub while looking for an evening meal. The four of us all chose fish an chips what a delight when it arrived, words cannot describe the quality laid before us.The fish was chunky flaky and tasted beautiful, so much so I asked Chris who supplied it to him. We will certainly go out of our way to return for another meal in the future.Would recommend to everyone.
