Just back from a 2 night staycation, with my daughter and our dog.
We stayed in pod 15 which we could check in to at 3pm, we were sent a text with check in details, key code number for door, shower block code etc
The pod was a deluxe pod with a fenced off area so the dog could roam around, inside the pod it slept up to four people, the beds already had a bottom sheet, there was cutlery, plates, mugs, bowls, kettle fridge and microwave and 2 power points it also had a heater and honesty box for the dogs stay of £5... outside within fenced area was a bbq area, it was all very basic but all very functional and cosy. Own bedding required!
The shower block had four shower rooms that had toilets in as well and a larger disabled shower room, men’s and ladies toilets separate ..outside the shower block was a dish washing area with washing up liquid.. the water at the dish wash area was drinking water. The site was well lit at night.
All in all a great couple of days very cosy and extremely clean.
All covid measure were firmly in place.
Site perfectly placed on the door step off Ullswater 5-10 min drive away and 2 min walk to Greggs and Burger King, and most walks etc max of 20-30 mins away by car.
Thanks for a great stay ...would definitely recommend!!!

First off, don't be put off by the location if you look on Google Maps! It looks unappealing; close to the A66, M6 and West Coast Main Line, down an access road just outside Penrith. In reality it works very well; you can't hear the roads, the railway isn't intrusive and you can walk to the shops in town in 30 minutes or less. There's a Burger King and a Greggs nearby if you get desperate, and the proximity of the A66 and the means it's only a few minutes to the heart of the Lake District.
The pods are great; a little basic but beats the heck out of being under canvas and everything you need is available. Barbecue stations are provided and it's dog-friendly, with some pods having small enclosures for your furry friends. The communal water and washing points are well-marked out for social distancing, as are the (very clean) toilet and shower block, sanitiser is provided, and there always seems to be plenty of hot water. Car parking is provided.
Nice place, seems to attract nice people, absolutely superb for an outdoorsy staycation or short break.

A private area of sixteen (I think) pods, suitable for couples, groups, families. Some are also fenced off for families and pets. The area is kept spotless, the showers and toilets are away from the pods and are lighted at night.
WORD OF ADVICE!!! Take a fan during summer time and always take your own bedding and drinks etc. Each pod has microwave, fridge, kettle cups and utensils.
Thank you Orchards and we will definitely be back!

Excellent weekend here. Pods were cozy/ had everything you need. The heating in them kept them nice and warm! Shower and toilet area were spotless and very well kept - much better than other shared toilets/showers I’ve used before. Owners were lovely. Perfect if you have dogs as they have dog enclosed fences around some of the pods.

Lovely camping pod, spotlessly clean on arrival. The site was really nicely kept and presented really well.
My girls fell in love with it and want to come back for longer.
The toilets and showers were very clean, although my only constructive feedback would be that perhaps a bench would be useful in the showers - it was a bit awkward trying to keep everything dry. Only a minor thing though.
Overall, a great find. I think it would be difficult to find a better similar type of accommodation.

Insensitive and incompetent
My wife booked a break for my special birthday commencing Monday 21st Sept at Orchard Hideaways.
Sadly her father took seriously ill and was admitted to hospital two weeks ago and when it seemed likely that he would not make it through the weekend I tried to cancel/re schedule our trip. After 3 answer machine calls to the site on Thursday 17th and an email I contacted Booking.com for assistance in this matter. They did eventually contact the accommodation and we tried to negotiate possible dates in Dec. This resulted in a telephone operator from the Philippines presumably employed by Orchard attempting to communicate our best availability. My wife repeatedly explained that her father had passed away that morning but the operator didn’t really understand and kept saying ‘enjoy the rest of the day’ or words to that effect. I explained to Booking.com that we now have more pressing matters but they said that we could reschedule but at an extra cost! Something to do with they couldn’t resell one of the nights we originally requested.(I had been trying to contact them for 4 days?)
We decided therefore that we had had enough stress and heartache to consider their ‘offer’ knowing full well that they were aware of our circumstances. We have now lost our entire fee and holiday.
Uncompassionate and mismanaged .

Orchard Hideaways is a great little place to explore the Lakes from. We stayed in pod 1 – which is A framed and can cause a fair bit of bending for the taller among us haha – but it was still cosy and really comfy beds. The walk to the shower/toilet blocks was short and well lit and paved with bark. The shower block was warm and really clean which was lovely. We had a microwave, kettle and crockery. Washing up area and bin area makes it easy to keep the pod clean and tidy. We had a great time walking around the area knowing we had a clean and comfy base to return to. Love the key staying in the key box –never a chance to lose it. Never saw any staff or an open reception so it really felt like we were in charge hehe. Will definitely return.

We arrived after a busy day in the Lakes, very easy automatic check in, lovely site and clean facilities. Camping/Glamping isn’t my thing, but I could definitely do a few nights here as the shower and toilet facilities look more like ensuites compared to your standard bleak camping ‘blocks’. The site is just the right size with a good selection of pods. For a family or 4 the pod didn’t feel cramped. We will definitely return in the future.*
* I would recommend you bring Citronella incense sticks or similar, I used Jungle Spray as where our pod was positioned close to mature vegetation there were lots of flies/midges, and maybe a fly zapper for when they get in the pod (although there is a mesh net behind the pod door) it is impossible to keep them out!!!! Also a fan when the weather is hot 🥵

Second visit to orchard hideaways. I was fairly disappointed this visit as there was no one else staying at this site so felt a little unusual and uncomfortable.
The mattresses were also very uncomfortable in the smaller pod so are perhaps ready for replacing.
There was also more noise from the road this time round so would recommend one of the larger pods at the back of the site.
You get relentless messages and texts before, during and after your stay. I left a night early due to been the only ones there and the uncomfortable mattresses and still got asked if I wanted late check out! All for an extra cost - obviously!
Having said that the site itself is in a handy location to explore the lakes and Penrith area.
The washing area and toilet facilities are really good and kept exceptionally clean for this type of accommodation.
The accommodation is dog friendly with lots of space.
Most pods come with a fridge, table, washing up equipment and outside facilities such as bbq area and table.
Would recommend if you get a good deal on the price!

Orchard Hideaways is a very pleasant place to stay, and the benefit of its proximity to the A66 is that it provides easy access to the motorway and Penrith, as well as some of the highlights of the Lake District. We had lovely days climbing Helvellyn and Blencathra, each about 20 minutes away by easy road.
The negative is that it's not quite as tranquil as the website suggests - the noise from the road is audible, and while the railway's quiet at night, trains also rush past throughout the day.
The pods are some of the cleanest and cosiest I've seen of their kind, and the ashing facilities are immaculate - so I'd definitely recommend it overall. A few random annoyances: the parking spaces are absolutely tiny, so good luck getting into them or getting anyone out of the back once you've done so. The booking system is incredibly annoying and you end up receiving incessant text messages and reminders trying to sell you extras, rather than interacting with anyone human. And the code that is texted to you to access the pods is very confusing - random numbers appear before the ones you actually need, so it took us a good 10 minutes to work out what combination was actually required.
This sounds a bit negative but they were really just minor annoyances that didn't get in the way of a good overall stay. If I'd genuinely been looking for a countryside idyll I might have been disappointed, but what it does provide is a good base for reaching the genuinely idyllic countryside nearby.

Yes. All pods have 3-pin sockets, with lights, electric heating and microwaves. Then also Fridges in the Family, Luxury and Pet Enclosure Pods.
Pods are just bed, microwave and kettle with tea and coffee etc. The toilets and showers are 20 second walk and are plentiful and very clean.
