Exceptional. We stayed with Jim & Tine for a long 40th birthday weekend retreat up in the Lakes. We could not have picked a better place to stay if we tried a 1000 times!
Firstly, All government & COVID regulations were in place in a well organized and professional manner which did not detract whatsoever to the enjoyment of our stay.
The area was stunning; secluded, quiet, with some lovely walks on the doorstep of which we took Jims advice with the routes.
Our room was spacious, relaxing and with plenty of locally sourced goodies and toiletries 😊 It is clear that pride and care is taken in all aspects of this B&B and you truly feel like a valued guest more so than anywhere else we have stayed.
As for the breakfasts – incredible – so much choice and care taken! I was always very well fed and set up for the day (I especially enjoyed the Pancake Tower with crispy bacon and maple syrup) and enjoyed some lovely chats with Jim to discuss our plans and take onboard his local knowledge.
I recommend the route plans/maps provided for some of the local walks and also the packed lunches which were perfect to enjoy sat on top of a local fell.
We are already making plans for a return visit ASAP.
Thank You So Much Tine & Jim – From Dave & Katie

If you are thinking of cancelling your booking because of poor weather, think again!
We have just spent a couple of relaxing nights at Lowthwaite’s where we were truly pampered by the most friendly and interesting B&B owners you could wish for.
I have a very stressful and demanding job as a head of French in a secondary school with a looming Ofsted inspection and a break at Lowthwaite is just what I needed.
The owners have given so much attention to every single detail. The pure lake toiletries were a real treat to enjoy a warm bath after a cold winter’s walk. Every day we had different homemade muffins, which became addictive and the breakfasts are of Michelin star rating! ( I am a previous employee of Michelin’s, by the way!)
We wanted for our daughter to experience nature and she was thrilled by the variety of birds, pheasant and red squirrel that came to the feeders every morning. In addition on our way to the pub on our last night, we saw a deer and a badger in the middle of the road. Drivers beware and make sure you drive slowly. We highly recommend the pub in Dacre, with a great log fire, great food and friendly owners.
Unfortunately we did not have good weather but managed the Aire Force walk. We plan to come back in the spring to see the place in more clement weather.
Jim and Tine deserve to be full every night!

We stayed for 2 nights whilst doing the MacMillan Lake District mighty hike. This find was superb, the host couldn’t do enough for us. They went above and beyond - arranging breakfast for us to take with us on our very early start (homemade granola, yoghurt and homemade rhubarb compote, sausage bun and delicious fair trade OJ) The room was immaculate and well equipped with its own little private garden area, lots of added extras such as homemade muffins and very posh smellies made in the Lakes. Quality homemade breakfast with a huge choice all made to order, lots of local quality products. Very COVID compliant. A couple who really enjoy what they do with an exceptional eye for detail!

The room was very comfortable, with good beds, plenty of space and a good, hot shower. Jim and Tine were hospitable and helpful, and well used to helping people find good walks, and then drying their clothes out afterwards. The location is good, with easy access to the Helvellyn area and to Borrowdale and the Northern Fells, and there are some good lowish level walks from the house itself. Breakfasts were special - a great range of choices, with home made bread and jams to go with them

This is a lovely place to stay, in a isolated spot not far from Lake Ulswater. The place is clean and tidy with plenty of choices for breakfast. Once we arrived at the B&B, Jim showed us around the room that had been thoroughly cleaned and sanitised.
With this being in a quiet location, there is plenty of wildlife here, including red squirrels and buzzards.
Definitely well worth staying here as it is a thoroughly relaxing place to be.

I am almost reluctant to review, as it will mean this lovely B&B will get more booked up! However, the owners deserve a really good review. The rooms are private, roomy, comfortable, well-stocked with goodies and little comforts and warm, with plenty of hot water at the end of a day of walking and wet! The owners are attentive, interested in their guests and their needs, and their breakfast and homemade cakes and breads are excellent. And they were especially careful in the time of the pandemic - all areas were sanitised and a good system of social distancing with other guests was in place.

Stayed here with my partner for a walking holiday.
From start to finish I couldn't fault the facilities or the service. All covid guidelines were followed and we felt safe within the B&B.
The hosts were friendly, warm and welcoming, really giving the service the personal touch. They asked us about the activities we had planned and recommended walks and places to eat which we appreciated.
The rooms were a good size with good sturdy furniture. The beds were comfy, and I got a good night's sleep. The room we stayed in had a bird feeder outside the window and it was lovely to sit and watch all the different birds come and go. We even saw some red squirrels!
The breakfast was lovely and I loved that the owner makes her own bread, jam and cakes which are offered to guests at breakfast time and cakes are put in the rooms.
Overall a good little B&B which is definitely return to!

The b&b is lovely and peaceful, the owners Tine & Jim have put so much thought into the decor and with only 3 rooms they can offer the same attentiveness to their guests. Jim walked us through different walks and places to visit each morning so that we found the best routes and Tine made wonderful breakfasts (we couldn't believe how much food we were offered - the choice of one main meal, plus fruit and homemade granola to start with, plus a homemade muffin, juice and coffee!). A packed lunch is also offered for a reasonable additional cost, which was helpful when heading out early.
We booked the garden room, which we really recommend as you gain access to a private terrace through a door in your bedroom, and can also use this door to leave and enter your room (whilst the other rooms share a terrace which is not directly connected to their rooms). Either way you will have a great time, this is a really special place.
After visiting I was inspired to make my own granola - thanks Tine! The owners also recommend the website Sawdays to book future trips - this was another helpful recommendation.
The owners go to great lengths to contribute positively to the environment, too, from offering lunch in reusable tuppaware, to explaining the sustainable heating and water systems they use, to locally sourced ingredients and bathroom products. Lots of great touches.

Jim and Tine are the perfect hosts. The welcome is always warm, the home cooking is tremendous - not just the breakfasts but the freshly made muffins to have after a days walk on the fells and in this Covid era, guests can be reassured in the knowledge that great care and attention has been taken to sanitise and clean and reduce risk as much as is practicable. The location is perfect for us - away from the crowds but in easy reach of some good local pubs, Keswick, Ullswater and the M6 for the journey to and from. We enquired about walking routes and Jim came up trumps on both occasions. We will definitely be back.

The house is in a lovely peaceful location on the edge of woodland. The rooms are full of character - the furniture is made from beautiful old Tanzanian boat wood. It is at the foot of a Little Mell Fell - a small hill with a great view. The breakfast was superb and set us up for a good day on the hill and then a decent ride home on the bike. The hosts are charming, helpful and have lots of time for their guests and are happy to give advice on walks. We loved the complimentary home-made muffins and the selection of excellent quality teas. Also there is clear thought been given to sustainability.

Hi Daphne. Unfortunately we don't allow dogs inside the house. Depending on the time of year, some guests have brought dogs, which have slept in their car. Kind regards Tine Boving Foster

Hi Bill. We have a room that can sleep 2 adult and 2 children (aged up to 12 year), so depending on your children's age that might or might not fit. If your children are older, you will need two rooms. Re. your parents there will be stairs, whatever room they stay in because of the way the house is. The Garden room, which has the least use of stairs, have 6 steps down to it. The steps are well lit and have a solid banister at one side. We do have availability, so if this sounds possible, you can book online or send us an email. Kind regards Tine Boving Foster
