The traditional hunting lodge style of the North Lakes Hotel & Spa, Penrith reflects the rugged beauty of the Lake District. Local stone, natural wood and open log fires create a genuine 'away from it all' environment in this exclusive 4-star resort hotel. FYR Grill is a unique experience as the chefs grill the finest steaks and fish on an open fire in the AA rosette restaurant. The fabulous spa has a 12m pool, with spa treatments, gym, hot tub, sauna and steam rooms. Outside the team tend to bug hotels and bee hives in the herb garden, and there’s even a dedicated pooch area for your four-legged friends. Part of The House of Daniel Thwaites collection.

The North Lakes Hotel & Spa is lauded for its cozy atmosphere and convenient location, close to both highways and natural attractions. Guests enjoy the clean, modern rooms and the spa, with special mention of the staff's helpfulness.
However, some travelers note service can lag during busy periods, and there are occasional cleanliness and noise complaints. While the amenities—including thoughtful touches like fresh milk and water dispensers—are generally appreciated, a number of guests feel that the hotel's pricing doesn't always equate to value, pointing to overpriced services and extra charges.

We arrived 22/7/20 for 2 nights. Reception very efficient and friendly. Hotel gorgeous and exceptionally clean. Room very modern and clean the bed was very comfortable with fresh crisp bedding.
The restaurant was very modern and very clean with delicious value for money food I recommend the burger it’s the nicest burger I’ve had ! The staff are very helpful and friendly especially Laura. Nothing was to much trouble she engaged in conversation as well as giving a 5 * service. The staff regularly sanitized there hands between serving food and cleaned menus with sanitized wipes between customers. Would defiantly come back would highly recommend

The hotel is located in a very convenient place, just off the junction of the M6 and A66 - however you cannot hear the passing traffic from any of the rooms. Check-in was very easy, the staff at reception were very friendly and we were quickly into our room, the Signature Double. The room was clean, spacious, and well-kept. I'm not too sure of the differences between the cheaper or more expensive rooms, however I'd say the Signature Double was good value for money. We loved 'Daisy the Cow' and the water filter in the corridor, lovely touches.
We took ourselves down to the spa, which was at maximum occupancy, however the spa reception staff made us a hot drink each whilst we waited. Some people didn't appear to understand health and safety regulations but the staff handled everybody professionally and repeatedly apologised for the delay. Once in, the swimming pool was slightly busy but not noisy and the steam room was lovely.
We ate at the in house restaurant that evening. Drinks were slightly pricey, yet typical hotel prices (£9.50 for an Aperol Spritz). We each had the taster table for starter, which we found a fantastic idea and the food on offer was delicious. For mains, we had the signature steak and the chickpea falafal, again delicious, as were the desserts of eton mess and sticky toffee pudding. However, the best part of the meal was the excellent service from our waitress (Ashleigh, I believe) who was really lovely and friendly!
The bed was firm, but very comfortable and the pillow menu is a good addition. We had breakfast delivered to our room the following morning which again was absolutely delicious.
Overall, the experience was wonderful. The room was good value for money at £134, and the food was exquisite, albeit slightly costly. Highly recommended, and in a wonderful location for a walk or two in the northern Lake District.

We booked here a but last minute, as our original plans fell through. However, we loved the place and it was a bit of a find.
We loved the Four Poster Room, it was light and airy. Although this stay was soon after COVID restrictions were being lifted, their system worked well. Thanks to Sophie for contacting me to book in our dinner, breakfast and Spa times. The rooms weren't serviced during the stay but new towels were left outside the door and we could leave the old towels outside in a bag.
George who was working the bar and the restaurant certainly went the extra mile sorting out my drink payment, as my cousin had left money on the bar for me. I was also impressed he had remembered my name from the Afternoon Tea, when he first met me.
If I was being picky I would say the rooms need a safe but regardless we loved the place and we will be back.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. Just off the motorway making it so easy to get to with lots of eateries and Penrith itself in easy walking distance. I wish I’d realised earlier that the train station is also a 10-15 min walk away with cheap tickets running up to Scotland. Parking on site is easy to access, free and abundant so I would highly recommend.
The hotel itself looked quaint from the outside but is impressive on the inside. The rustic feel runs through the reception and into the bar and restaurant areas and make for a lovely setting.
When we arrived our room was not quite ready but we were earlier than our allocated check in. Staff at reception were friendly and polite, and took an interest in our journey etc. When we got up to the room, there was a bottle of champagne waiting for us (honeymoon) which was a lovely touch. The room itself was bright and modern with different pillow options available. The room was clean and stocked with everything you would expect including iron, board, hairdryer, safe, a kettle with high quality tea and coffee making ingredients, a fridge and a Lavazza coffee machine with a selection of pods.
We ate in the hotel restaurant for breakfast and evening meal every night (three) and could not have been more impressed. The service was swift and again the staff were friendly and competent. The food was unbelievable, and as a vegetarian there was a lot of choice and a separate vegan menu from which I could choose.
On the second day we booked in for a spa day. The treatment was amazing (85 min D-vine treatment) and again both my husband and I would recommend the treatment options at the spa. The only disappointment we had was that our allocated swim time had been set for 10-12 but we did not realise that children swimming times lasted until half 11 so for the majority of our allocated session, there were a lot of children in the pool shouting and splashing (which I would expect children to do!) which ruined the “relaxing” session we were looking for.
The aforementioned issue with the swimming session is one of the reasons we did not award a five star for the hotel. The other one is that noise levels were cumbersome at times. We stayed in a room next to the stairwell and could hear the main fire doors banging throughout the late evening. On our final morning, a laundry truck was either loading or unloading right outside our window pre 9am and that was an awful lot of noise.

The lobby and restaurant are very nice, it also has a nice outdoor seating area. The gym is good.
We had a good deal on the room however had we paid full price we’d have been very disappointed. The rooms are very cramped. We stayed in August and it was nice weather, the room was like an oven as there’s no air conditioning, all we had was a tiny fan. In the whole room we could find three plug sockets, one was taken up by the fan, one by the tv and so we had one for both our phones, also none of these plugs were by the bed which is a pet hate of mine.
We never had our bedding or towels changed during our stay, this could have been due to COVID restrictions however we were never told the procedure of how to obtain new ones if needed.
Very much like a Travelodge, apart from the air conditioning.

Dear d32bus Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent stay with us and I am sorry to read that it wasn’t the most positive one. Whilst I wish you had a better experience, we will use your comments to improve and ensure we deliver exceptional service for all future guests. Through new restrictions in our room servicing operation we are currently unable to service bedrooms through guest stays (to help keep guests and staff safe) All of our rooms come with a welcome letter which helps to explain our procedures. Our reception team are also always on hand to answer any questions through your stay. Kind regards Becky Head of Guest Experience

This is a fabulous hotel with excellent facilities and approachable friendly staff. Covid-wise I felt the extra rules around the hotel were very clear with plenty of reminder signage and lots of hand sanitiser stations. In the restaurant tables were well spaced and the breakfasts had moved from buffet to table service , which was extremely efficient (I actually much preferred it!) Our bedroom was very light and clean, and the windows open wide for good ventilation. A fantastic addition was that there was not only a cold water station on each floor, but a cold milk station too for you room coffees and teas, which is genius!
We have been to this hotel on numerous occasions and have always have a great stay, this time ,despite the current virus situation, was no different.

Hotel is nice, food great, staff friendly but I was shocked at the lack of mitigation for Covid19. In the restaurant the tables were well spaced but none of the staff wore face coverings, this even applied to staff taking orders and serving food and also those cleaning rooms. Guests are meant to wear face coverings in public spaces but almost none complied with this. Come on folks there's a global pandemic going on and people dying is it really too much to ask staff and guests to wear a mask!

Dear 45StephenM45 Thank you for your feedback and thoughts regarding the systems we have in place for Covid. Please be assured all aspects of the hotel and services have been risk assessed and careful consideration taken in how we operate. We have a one way system in place for all guests in and out of the hotel. Screens placed in our reception desk area, spa reception and host station for the restaurant and numerous sanitising stations across all floors of the hotel (to name just a few procedures we have) We as a team are working extremely hard to keep our team and guests staff through this pandemic It is positive to read that you found the staff to be friendly and enjoyed the food in our FYR restaurant. Kind regards Becky Head of Guest Experience

Family of 4 stopover. Covid meant spa etc closed so it felt a bit less than its 4 star billing. Three beds one large multipurpose room (they convert them between meeting rooms and bedrooms) which felt a little odd but was clean and comfortable and great value. Very tasty evening meal in smartly refurbished bar, quiet (probably half empty because of pandemic), breakfast OK. Can't remember what it cost but not outrageous anyway. EV charging facility would be a good addition given proximity to motorway and scarcity of chargers in the North.

Dear dmdf, Thank you for taking the time to let us have your feedback about your stay. I will share your comments with the team and we will use them to keep working hard on delivering consistently good experiences for all our guests. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in the not too distant future. You mention the spa was closed so I presume the stay must of been back in early July when we had first re-opened before spas were allowed to open. The great news is that all our spa facilities are fully open for everyone to enjoy once again. Kind regards Becky Head of Guest Experience

We had bought an ITISON voucher for this hotel for one night stay, and it did NOT disappoint! On arrival we were warmly greeted by the hotel reception and got our room swiftly. It was absolutely stunning! We were room 214 and it was spotlessly clean and felt very new and modern. It was a great place to choose for a mini staycation.
We arrived at 3pm for check in, so by 4pm we were on our way down to the SPA in our robes (no slippers in the room but asked the maid service in the hallway for some and it was no problem!) The SPA reception was busy and not very well signposted on how to get in to the pool area , do we go through the door or through the changing rooms?! It didnt matter we just did our thing and no one questioned us. If you are thinking of staying Saturday, be warned the pool was VERY busy, we were lucky to get two couches to lay on and relax. There were people in 15 minutes after us who had no where to sit. The pool was filled with kids, which we were fine with but if you went there with the intention of a relaxing time, you wouldnt have got it with the screaming and jumping and splashing etc. Plus the tweens in the jacuzzi giggling away constantly... Like I said we were fine and kept to ourselves reading but it wasnt the most relaxing area.
We had a bottle of wine in our room with the deal we bought so we took that to the lounge area in reception and ordered some snacks before dinner and the staff were extremely lovely and the service was fast for food. The ambience is like a ski lodge, with the big wooden beams and big fireplace with a fire going.
We later came back for dinner in FYR Grill at 7pm and it was relatively busy but not so much that it affected the service. We ordered the sour dough bread which was to DIE FOR! so delicious. My husband had fish and chips and I had the sweet potato and chickpea falafel - both very delicious also. We were too full for dessert but took our drinks back out to the lounge area for the evening. I did notice a lot of people were really dressed up for dinner, girls in dresses and high heels! I was in black jeans and a nice top but didn't think it was the type of place for heels and dresses!
Breakfast was probably the most let down even though it was fine. there was a big board when waiting to be seated "SPECIAL: American Pancakes with Bacon" . When my husband went up to the hot buffet, he asked for the special, pancakes and bacon. He got ONE pancake and TWO rashers of streaky bacon. I suggested he should have asked for more , but men don't like making a fuss! BUT American pancakes and bacon are stacked pancakes not one, portions should be two minimum. It also wasnt clear if we could go to the hot buffet twice or not. They had a two different dairy free milks, soya and hazelnut but noticed no dairy free spread on offer which would have been nice. There was also no dairy free yoghurt which all are easy to come by now. I feel like they could expand their vegan options with breakfast, I could only have toast and beans really...
all in all a beautiful stay and we will be back!
