Detailed Reviews
We had a 3 night stay in one of the hotel rooms. In these current times their attention to detail on cleanliness was excellent with a seal on the door so you knew no one had been I since it was prepared. Room was spacious and had an amazing shower. We had a lovely meal on the day we arrived and an amazing afternoon tea the following day. Breakfasts were lovely with plenty of options. Staff were attentive and friendly. We’ll certainly be back for another stay in the future.

Just back from a fantastic stay at the Roundthorn country house hotel. Room was spacious and comfortable with lovey views of the surrounding countryside. Staff friendly and helpful. Hotel only has 10 rooms which is great and service and experience had felt very personable.
Food on offer was great! Limited menu but this was an advantage as food served was fresh and tasty and reasonably priced.
Good breakfast selection available too!
Only (minor) feedback is rooms in the hotel could be done with a update/refresh as felt a bit dated - perhaps this is in keeping with the building which was cosy and had character.
Breakfast had to be pre-ordered - which we didn’t mind, though planning what you want to eat next morning can be tricky and don’t know if possible to change your mind?!?

As our little party included two wheelchairs the staff had carefully arranged a setting in their small room off the main entrance with views towards the Lake district Fells.
There was a choice of three starters, 3 mains plus a vegetarian and three puddings. All were served by an attentive staff and appreciated by my family. My own selection of hot smoked salmon salad and twice roasted featherblade of beef was outstanding with the final piece de resistance being the trio of blackcurrant and almond desserts.
With my daughter-in -law driving I was able to savour the wine skilfully recommended by Graham, the proprietor. A perfect meal was finally rounded off with rich tasting coffee and fudge.

Stayed here for one night, due to hubby birthday. Easy to find and a very lovely, Georgian building, full of character. Stayed in front bedroom as a superior room, but TBH we arrived in the dark and as the hotel is in the middle of no where, it wouldn't of mattered what room you stayed in as you would still have experienced a view in the morning.
Dinner menu was limited so a little bit nervous, but wow, it was wonderful. Very well presented and posh looking. We only had a main, thank goodness, as portions generous. The only small complaint I would say, was that you have to pay extra for veg, which I do not agree with. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Plus the ambiance lovely, with the fire burning.
Had a couple of drinks in the bar and enjoyed looking around.
I asked for extra pillows and a blanket for the room, as I thought a little cold, but this was no problem to staff and it does say to ask if you require them.
Breakfast was just as lovely, and sausages really yummy. My hubby said he thought his was only warm, but i never thought this.
Did feel a little pressurised to leave earlier than stated, as you could hear the cleaners very clearly in hall and other rooms. Plus the cleaner opened our door and stepped in, without realising we were in there still. She did apologise though.
I would love to stay again, but at Christmas. Would love to see the decor and the Christmas trees.

We have just celebrated our wedding at the Roundthorn last week, and we could not have made a better decision making this choice as our wedding venue.
Lovely country style location with amazing views over the fells (Blencathra could be seen not in the far distance), a great selection of food and beverages at exceptionally competitive prices, staff could not be more helpful and attentive to all our needs, we could really not wish for more for our most special day.
Thank you again Roundthorn for being so friendly and professional.

A friend and I went to the Roundthorn for a evening meal, I had always just thought of it as a wedding venue, but I was wrong. We had a beautiful meal. The service was great and the staff were very friendly and it felt very safe and covid secure, the tables we well spaced out and the dining room is light and airy. The renovations look great and the garden looks lovely, we will be back!!

We stayed here for a couple of nights at the start of a longer holiday. In these current times it seems appropriate to start with Covid precautions, which were excellent. The hotel is lucky to have very spacious public areas and by providing dining across all of them, are able to keep everybody well distanced. Despite this, it still has the feel of a friendly hotel. The staff lead this, always sporting a big smile under their masks. I think.
The food is very good, not spectacular.
Our room was very spacious and the bed was remarkably comfortable. The only downside was that it was in the attic, which meant Velux windows, limiting our view, which is a shame as the landscape is glorious. Also, the stairs to our room were steep and narrow. That wasn’t a problem but if you’re infirm or unfit and have heavy luggage, it could be.
Overall a great stay in a well run and friendly hotel.

Where do I start, a lovely very impressive building with friendly warm welcoming staff.
We stayed for my partners 50th, we were treated to the upgraded apartments and WOW they are stunning , clean and very modern.
We had two lovely large bedrooms both with en-suite, a warm living room with kitchen and dinning areas on onsite parking.
It’s so quite at night it’s beautiful….. woke up in the morning to sheep in the field and spectacular views.
We enjoyed a very delicious waited on breakfast where the menu was catering for all.
The town is only 5 minutes in a car down the road or a taxi, will advise if getting a taxi book in advance we were waiting over an hour when coming back from town.
I would definitely recommend a stay not going to upload pictures because I think it would spoil the wow off the experience… we will be returning:)

Stayed one night following a family wedding reception held here. Food and staff was great but as catering was for over 60 people I cannot comment on the menu for an individual meal. Our room was up 3 flights of stairs (2 of which were very narrow) and was clean and comfortable. Shower only, not bath, in a clean modern bathroom was small but no real issues. I would like to return as this is our type of weekend break venue.

We stayed her over the new Year. We stayed in the apartments which were only built 1 year ago. They are amazing. The children had their own room with TV and ensuite. The apartments were spacious and luxurious. We were even given a hamper of food and drinks which was an added touch. It far exceeded our expectations. We would definitely return and highly recommend.

Hi,
Yes our apartments do have iron and ironing boards in them.
Kind Regards
Collette
I am so sorry I just saw this question. It is not in the countryside but if you are not local you will not know the quick way to the station. Taxis are always at the station and it won't be expensive
