Detailed Reviews
We have stopped at the Travelodge Penrith every year for the last 20 years, as we visit the lakes every year. It is outside of Penrith and in a good position for touring the lakes. It is an older Travelodge, but was refurbished a few years ago, and the rooms are quite large, comfortable although basic, with decent bathroom and shower. Especially from my wife's point of view there is plenty of hanging space and shelves, so you do not need to live out of your suitcase. Far more storage than in a modern Travelodge or Premier Inn. Due to Covid the rooms were not cleaned every day, but you could put a notice on the outside of the door, and they would empty your bins daily, stock up your tea/coffee and change your towels. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, and we were given our requested room, as we always ask for the same room in the Annexe. Only one day did we have a problem when although we were given new towels, the old towels and old cups/tea tray were not taken. We will continue to use this Travelodge next year, as it suits our requirements. We only need somewhere clean and comfortable to sleep, and a decent bathroom for a shower. it is not a 5 star hotel, so do not expect more than I have described.

A great welcome when we arrived. Earlier than the 3:00pm booking in was no problem as our room was ready and we were speedily sorted out.
The room was very tidy although the bath looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned due to the amount of water splashed around it but I think it simply hadn’t dried out from the changeover clean/
Only one useable power socket was available which in this day and age of equipment needing charging, is pretty poor.
Unlike most motels, there is no proper catering facilities adjacent although there is a Greggs and Burger King. OK if you want takeaway but hopeless if you want to relax over a meal and drink after a long drive.
Parking was fairly tight during the opening hours of the takeaways but once they had closed, there is adequate.
Big plus was that the staff were very pleasant and helpful – the main saviour of this Lodge.
Not too bad a visit but doubt if I would use it again although in an emergency, I wouldn’t rule it out.

Amazing Value for money; we weren’t sure what to expect with a budget room but can honestly say our expectations were well and truly exceeded. On arrival we were greeted by Linh who has the warmest personality ever. She is efficient, friendly and welcoming making time to ensure our stay was perfect. The rooms were impeccably cleaned ans comfortable. We were worried that it was going to be noisy due to being at the roadside but honestly it wasn’t. We recently stayed at an idependent hotel costing over 3 times the price of this room however Travelodge Penrith blew them out of the water for service, cleanliness and staff. We will absolutely be returning here again and this will be our go to hotel when exploring the Lakes. 100% recommended.

This hotel is reasonably priced and conveniently located off the motorway. That said, the place is an absolute shambles at times... We arrived to check in approx 3:30pm (check in starts at 3) to be told our room wasn't ready and that we needed to wait. I asked how long this would be but the member of staff didn't know, telling us how under-staffed they were, so we requested a different room which she eventually agreed to. The room we were given was an accessible twin room - we had booked a family room with a double bed. On raising this as an issue were told that someone would be along to 'zip' the beds together and everything would be fine. 5 hours later and nothing had been done so we went back to reception to query the situation only to be told that the hotel was in fact over-booked so they were very stressed and busy... This was a different member of staff and she eventually agreed to displace one of their "regulars" to give us a double room. That room was basic but fine but the poor service really did sour the whole experience and I definitely wouldn't choose to stay here again because of it. It's worth noting that although no hot breakfast is available from the hotel there is a Greggs and Burger King on the same site.

We chose this hotel as we were staying with our dogs (3). Due to the unfortunate loss of one of our dogs we needed to adjust the booking which resulted in being overcharged - this was eventually (after many calls & emails over several weeks) rectified and I received a refund. Whilst the rooms felt more or less clean (basic requirement of a hotel room) our room was situated right by an outside light which meant we could not open our windows without many flying visitors. As we had to keep our windows closed the room got very hot and uncomfortable.
Also, there seemed to be a lot of flies in the entire building, including our room (at one point we had 8 in our room, even with the windows closed). We worked out that if we left the light (and therefore fan) on in the bathroom the flies couldn't get through the extractor. On arrival the room felt okay, but by the time we left (just 2 nights) there were lots of dead flies on surfaces when we returned to the room in evenings and it became an unpleasant place to stay. Our kettle also had it's filter removed (I assume due to excess limescale build-up). Unfortunately this has put me off staying a Travelodge in the future and will look to spend a little extra on a room elsewhere.

The hotel was way over priced for what it was sad to say. The staff were friendly and informative but the building needs a big revamp. Bathrooms and bedrooms need updating.
The area is great for tourists having access to the Lake District which is probably why it was fully booked. The bathroom I had looked like it was from 70s and the room looked like it hadn’t had a clean since the start of lockdown.
Sadly this was the only place in the area I could book for 1 night. Most of Penrith was booked out so advice for people coming to the Lake District- it’s a travel lodge book with a local company, a family run business or air b&b give the locals some cash and save 100+ quid.

We booked on the morning of our stay, quoted £67, when we got there we were charged £77. We challenged it but still had to pay the higher amount. It took over 20 minutes to check in, I’m disabled so struggled to wait in agony. The room was ok, very basic but the toilet was stained and had hairs around the basin. I took my 2 children to the vending machine and there were 2 inebriated people inside the laundry trolley causing a scene.
We had an emergency at home so were only in for an hour and couldn’t get a refund. Contacted head office and they were appalling too, didn’t offer any kind of resolution. Avoid, like the plague!

We picked this Travelodge as it was located just off the M6 J40 so very convenient to access after a long journey. No road noise at all though. Also the property was dog friendly which we needed. It is well presented with lovely hanging baskets outside and a bowl of dog treats in reception. Small things but they make a difference.
We had to wait a couple of minutes to check in but the receptionist, Linh, couldn't have been more apologetic or friendly and it really wasn't a problem at all.
Rooms were exceptionally clean, spacious and well aired, beds comfortable and towels were large enough. We would definitely stay here again and look to use Travelodges when we travel in future.

Booked three rooms for a overnight stay due to competing in a open water swim the next day. All our rooms were clean and fresh and the hotel felt very COVID aware. Not much around the hotel itself to walk to however only a short drive into the town or towards Ullswater. The night receptionist was a diamond and couldn’t do enough to for us including recommending a good place for a cooked breakfast the next morning. If your looking for a basic but clean and comfortable budget room just on the edge of the beautiful Ullswater and Penrith you wont go wrong here.

Starting with the positive, the room was spacious albeit "no frills".
The basic nature of the hotel is relevant for this trip because I stayed here for the Mighty Hike weekend and paid over £300 for two nights. Therefore, the hotel was expensive for what it is, I'd expect more facilities for that sort of room charge.
The room I had (in the annexe) was a bit "tired", there was some mould in the seal around the bath but it was all basically clean and the king size bed was very comfortable.
The worst thing about this hotel is its location, on a bypass outside Penrith. It's only accessible by car or on foot (it's about 1.6 miles walk from the railway station) and I've found on two recent trips that there are very few taxis in the area. There are no buses in that area.
If you do stay here, be prepared to take your own food and anything you want to drink other than tap water. The only "hospitality" venues nearby are a Burger King and a Greggs. There are a couple of tiny villages about a mile's distance away but if they have pubs/restaurants, Travelodge isn't very good at publicising that fact. Just accept this hotel is in the middle of nowhere.
As I said above, I would only stay here again if I was desperate. That's not the fault of the staff (whom I barely saw anyway), just the location of the place.

I don't recall any fridges in the rom. The hotel provides four small cartons of long-life milk along with sachets of coffee and teabags. One of the small cartons of milk is just enough for one cup of tea or coffee.
Our room had a fan in.
Checkout is Noon, for late checkout it is £10 for 2pm.
Yes. We stayed with our dog in August and the charge was £20.00 per night.
