The Premier Inn Penrith hotel garners appreciation for its blend of modern conveniences—including charging sockets and HDMI/USB ports—and historical charm that contributes to its inviting atmosphere. Guests have called out the comfortable rooms equipped with amenities like coffee machines, though some have voiced concerns over air quality and noise. While the hotel's cleanliness generally earns praise, occasional lapses in room servicing have been noted.
The staff's friendliness and helpfulness are frequently highlighted, despite a few reports of service delays. Moreover, its strategic location with easy M6 access and on-site parking is popular among travelers. Opinions on value for money, however, are split.

Excellent location right in the centre of Penrith, on one side of a square with plenty of parking (tap your Car Registration number into a screen in Reception and you can park for free). There is a large supermarket adjacent and a well known high street pub / restaurant just around the corner, where you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner. the Premier Inn has a restaurant as well, with a limited but tasty looking menu.
Check in can be automated, just enter your booking reference into the machine. On our arrival, this system wasn't working, but staff are available 24/7 to check you in manually. Staff members were welcoming and friendly.
You will need your room key card to use the lift or access the stairwell.
We had a Premium Room. A reasonable size with a large and super comfortable bed, spare pillows if you require them. An armchair by the window, desk with lamp, a modest amount of storage, hair dryer and amenity tray and kettle.
WiFi with these rooms was complimentary, but we were disappointed by the speeds experienced.
Lovely smelling hand wash and shower gel - containing Oud, which reminded us of the Middle East - an over the bath shower, plenty of hot water and a heated towel rail.
Granted, Penrith is not exactly buzzing, the room was quiet, warm and very comfortable.
We opted to have breakfast in house - an extra £9.95 per head for 'limitless' hot breakfast, and were pleasantly surprised at the choice available - fruit juice, a coffee machine with lots of options and a variety of teas and fruit / herbal infusions. Pastries and bread, yogurt, fruit and a selection of cereals.
The hot selection was a self-serve arrangement - all the usual suspects - and staff topped up the serving dishes regularly. The restaurant looked out over the square and was a pleasant environment, I don't think it would have felt particularly special for dinner, but it suited breakfast well.
We had booked months in advance, as the hotel is well located for a certain holiday park about ten minutes drive away, and we got an excellent deal; even including the two breakfasts we paid under £70 for the night.
We would thoroughly recommend this Premier Inn, as mentioned, well located for holidays along the road, but also just a few minutes off the M6 and very easy to find.

Everything you’ve come to expect from a premier inn. Good standard of service and quality for the price. Good value for money. Location was great, rooms appeared to have been recently refurbed and the breakfast was in-house - kids eat free which makes it great value for families.

If you stay at premier inns a lot you will know that they follow the same design and the colour scheme is almost exactly the same, so that if you are in a premier inn room you could be anywhere. Saying that the premier inn at Penrith is a cut above most of the groups hotels. The rooms seem to be bigger then average and have baths not showers which I prefer. There is no charge for parking which is not always true when staying at a premier inn in the centre of a town. What really sets it apart is it’s location, you have everything you could want close by.
No need to eat at the premier inn as lots close by. I actually used the Weatherspoons which was round the corner. Don’t frequent them very often but the one in Penrith was great with ridiculous prices for both food and drink, which were of a high standard. Also a Sainsbury’s just across from the premier inn, which I used to get sandwiches for the next days walk

Cannot fault room. Make own beds and empty own bins due to Covd19, with large extra bin at entrance for take away cartons. Sainsburys on same site if you need packed lunch to take out with you. Easy free parking.
Buses to Windermere via Kirkstone Pass, seasonal. (508) Keswick X4 X5 every half an hour.
Local Wetherspoon around corner should you want a cooked breakfast at half the cost plus an excellent Lotus Garden Chinese take away also minutes away.
Penrith is just a market town outside the national park but it is an excellent base for exploring both lakes and dales and only six miles from the glorious lake Ullswater.. .

First time visiting anywhere since lockdown and it could not have gone any better.
The hotel staff were incredibly friendly, they all wore visors and used hand sanitizer frequently. There was a really nice receptionist called Chris who was chatty, kind and friendly.
The rooms were very clean and tidy. A tip if you want a cooler from to sleep in, upon your arrival ask the receptionists to turn the heating all they way down. Hot drink making facilities are included in the room, a hairdryer is also included.
Breakfast was really good you can pick what you want from the cooked breakfast one or two of everything or you can have continental breakfast including yogurt, croissants etc, or both! Unlimited drinks as well.
The hotel is right next to a sainsbury's so you can park in that car park but make sure register your cat with reception so not to get a parking ticket.
We will definitely be coming back to this premier again. Thank you very much for our lovely stay!

We stayed for two nights Sun& Mon. The rooms are very clean, good covid expectations . The hotel double glazing is very good , very very little noise from the adjacent car park. Breakfast food and staff very good. Very disappointed with the evening restaurant offer. With all the available restaurants in Penrith why only offer curry’s and pizza which are numerous around the hotel? Premier inns generally offers fair menu choice, this one is poor. Never mind, the rest of the stay was good and we found a couple of great eateries very close by. Lovely friendly staff

After travelling from California fell into bed jet lagged and knackered.. Awoke 1800hrs to discover I'd been sleeping on the previous occupants skid marks . The sheets had not been changed. While wife still sleeping (and to save major trauma for all) I went to reception and explained the situation . The manager immediately took action and changed sheet once I got my wife out of way.
Sadly change of room or any sort of compensation was not offered.
Overall the staff (with the exception of room cleaning and "quality"" control" ) were excellent and the breakfast superb. However with a family group of 13 staying for 2 nights at rates three times that of London Gatwick the incident of the sheets left a bad stain on this "Quality Inns" reputation.
Though minimum inconvenience was caused we had to change our room keys out 3 times. An annoyance .
Location of this hotel is excellent. A shame first impressions (skid marks) set the tone.
Morale of the experience is check your room thoroughly before jumping into bed to ensure you don't have to check your own personal hygiene before accepting the horror of someone else's.

Hi ChrisWoodIOM! Thank you for taking to review your stay with us here at Premier Inn, Penrith. I'm am truly sorry to hear about your experience whilst you were staying with us. On this occasion, it appears that our usual standards were not met, but can assure you our rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each guest departs - and all of our laundry is independently cleaned externally by our laundry company. However, I'm glad the team managed to correct the issue for you whilst you were here. We have fully refreshed the team to make sure they are aware of the issue you experience and also put in place additional linen checks. Here at Penrith, we strive to ensure that each guest is satisfied and on this occasion we apologise that we fell short of our usual standards. Please could I ask you to contact my Deputy Hotel Manager, david.brown5@whitbread.com so we can gather some more information from you.

We stayed for 2 nights in Penrith and were very impressed with the COVID security measures in place at the Premier Inn. All of the staff wore face coverings at all times and guests were also required to do likewise when moving around the public areas.
Coffee/teas and toast were self-service (face coverings to be worn) but everything else was served to your table. The cooked breakfasts were excellent - only moan would be that poached eggs were not an option.
The town centre location of this hotel is a real plus and (at least at the moment) all the Penrith council car parks are free.

We've used this location a number of times as a base for exploring the western Lakes and for undertaking running and cycling events organised around Penrith. The hotel is situated in the heart of the town and is close to the M6 for those passing through the area and wishing to take some time to explore the regions around Ullswater to the west and the Yorkshire Dales to the east. The hotel is well organised for coping with the recent pandemic and provides safe dining facilities for breakfast for those that wish to partake. Remember to book a convenient time slot for breakfast in advance of your stay to prevent disappointment with availability. Adequate parking is available at the front of the hotel in the supermarket carpark. Remember to leave your car registration to secure free parking.

Couldn’t cater enough for me and my partner. The room was cold upon arriving but a card in the room informed us that they were involved in climate change & that the heating could be turned on via the front desk. Music to my ears.
The hotel seemed very quiet but meal times found the hotel was full.
I asked for an iron & ironing board & an extra duvet as I’m a cold person. They supplied every thing and more. Plenty free parking outside the hotel which is shared with Sainsbury’s. But you must inform the front desk in premier inn that you have parked to avoid a parking ticket.
Hotel seems quite new and had a lovely restaurant attached. Plenty places to eat & drink nearby too. Weatherspoon's literally 2 minutes away do a great breakfast for £3.20.
Would definitely return to Penrith. Visited lots of places including Keswick Cocker mouth Carlisle Workington and much more. Plenty shops in Penrith to keep you busy.
Couldn’t ask for much more. Always like a premier inn as you know what your getting. Free tea & coffee. Great nights sleep. Lovely service. The staff were fantastic this weekend in every way possible.

Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom38 contributions24 helpful votesThinking of stopping here on the Coast 2 Coast - does this hotel have secure bike storage?
I did not see any but the hotel staff were very helpful so suggest that you contact them.
I'm guessing an hour's drive but I'm not sure.
Hi,
Its a 12 minute drive from the hotel
Regards
Sam
Hi, I can recommend the Woodstone Pizzeria and Grill. It’s only a few minute walk from the hotel. I would also recommend booking in advance
I believe it’s just under 5 miles away, between 10-15 mins by car.
Hope that helps
