We had a private room, which was very clean and comfortable. It had a private sink and a bathroom down the hall. The location was great, very close to the train station and the High Street in Windermere. Some guests didn't clean up the kitchen as well as others, so sometimes it was left a bit messy.

Good little hostel just a couple of minutes walk (downhill) from the train station. The room was a little cramped, but fine for a few nights. The shared lounge room/kitchen was always clean and had enough space for a few people cooking at once. Main problem was that there were only 2 bathrooms for two floors, and the bathroom had...

A real disappointment. A very small room, with dirty shared facilities. This place needs a real good clean and remake immediately. The place is a self service joint from start to finish. So you see no one, get no advice on the area no help on any needs of info etc. You can get in to the main building via...

The thing you should know about the Backpackers Lodge is that there is no staff. You get a code to open the doors and leafe the money in there. This is a little weird, but when we had some little problems we just called the manager and he was really nice. The breakfast is very basic.

This place is as efficiently organised as a hostel can be and does, by far, not offer the same charming atmosphere as the "mountain hostels" in the calm valleys of the Lake District. As others mentioned there is no staff. You receive an e-mail with pin codes for the doors and you have to put your payment in an envelope...

My friend and I stayed here for a night before going up to Scotland and it was okay. There is no staff so you are given a code to get entrance and then have to check a notice board for your room. Facilities were fine but should there have been issues there was no one on hand for assistance. Likewise...

We stayed here one night for £16.50 each. They had no all-female rooms left since we booked so late so we had to stay in a 4 bed mixed room. As two college girls, it was a bit freaky to be staying with 2 men who were strangers who both took the lower bunks. One thing that's a little strange...

The hostel is in a great location but not the greatest service. There are no staff! Upon arrival, you place your money in an envelope and place it in a safe. If you have questions, you have to email or call the owner. There was a mix up with our rooms, it was double booked. And there was a couple...

This place is basic, but clean. My one complaint is there are no staff manning reception, so there's no one to let you in and explain how things work. We hadn't been emailed the room or door codes, so were reliant on another guest to let us in. We then weren't sure about the bedding (whether we needed to use...

My boyfriend and I are backpacking around the UK at the moment and found this place online. We were a bit nervous staying here after reading some of the reviews, however we both absolutely loved it! We were in a 4 person room (2 bunks) and we couldn't have been happier. We were lucky to get awesome roommates that we...
