Unfortunately there isn't a complimentary taxi or ferry service. However there is a ferry service that runs from Blockhole Visitor Centre, next door to us. The ferry's come frequently and are nicely affordable.

I suggest you try the following. Look at the website for windermere-lakecruises /cruises-fares. Click on the routes link. On the N West side of Windermere is a request stop called Wray Castle Pier. The information about it is:
Wray Castle Pier is the original pier belonging to this neo-gothic castle that's a 5 minute walk from the shore. Wray Castle is ideal for families and a great place to pause on the Green Cruise.
Postcode: LA22 0JA (postcode to castle only)
Cruises available: Green (seasonal)
Parking: none at pier
Buses: none at pier
Walk: On bridleway along western shore - ideal for walkers ticket.
Facilities: Many facilities at nearby Wray Castle
What you want is the walkers' ticket. Not all the boats do this route (at least out of season when we did it in March this year), and we were just fortunate that having got on the boat at the jetty just down from the hotel, we heard the captain say that passengers with walkers ticket should not alight at Ambleside but stay aboard. (The Hotel had told us that NO boats called at Wray Castle Jetty out of season!!) Having got yourself to the Wray Castle jetty, there is a very pleasant walk which mostly hugs the shoreline all the way down to the car ferry. Get on this and alight on the Eastern side. Walk back up to Bowness and get on the next ferry up to the hotel jetty where you originated from. BEWARE, this is a request stop. You have to tell the crew you want to alight there when you board at Bowness, otherwise you sail straight past and end up in Ambleside! Although this trip will take longer than 3 hours to complete, you will be walking for about the time you have asked for.
