Basic clean and friendly and nice inside. The receptionist was pleasant and accommodating and very good value for the money. The food was lovely and the lake was so restful and serene and this really is a prime location and well worth a visit.

Price point of the hotel is very good, however the price definitely reflects back on the hotel. The lady on reception for the night I was there was pleasant and helpful, I needed extra pillows as the 2 small thin ones given were definitely not enough. The parking arrangement is strange. There's nowhere to park however a carpark at the rear which is very confusing and signed up as for customers of abbey retail park. It needs clearer signage. I didn't feel safe leaving the car anywhere really. Luckily I just parked outside my room, which thankfully was at the back of the hotel. It doesn't give off very good impressions on approach, the room is somewhat small and the bathroom cramped, on the whole it was conveniently located for a work trip and cheap too. The room had dirty towels, I found them in the morning. Several times I tripped on the uneven floor, lots of dirty and damaged marks on walls, but well equipped with plenty of plug sockets, some of which had USBs, a fridge, TV and microwave. However the kettle I daren't use it was disgusting and most of the 2 way lights either side of thr bed didn't work. If your after a cheap hotel and your not fussed about the finer things, or don't mind a walk for food then its good. I wouldn't want to do more than a night here though.

Don't read all bad reviews and think this place is run down it's not. The abbey was clean and tidy, friendly staff and best of all you can have 24 hour access. Arrived on the friday and this lovely lady behind desk having jokes and making you feel welcome like it was her own home 👍👍 this makes a big impression on me for a first meet and greet. Getting into the room, spacious and has what you need without cramming lots of furniture in I would have liked a bigger shower room but we made the most of what we had. Bed was comfortable and well presented, ok a few Mark's on walls but what's a little paint job when they have 5 min. As for the abbey hotel being next to road I heard nothing of traffic not that it would have bothered me if I did. If I had to make a suggestion a little bar for drinks if planning a night out on town. All in all I give this place 10 stars it is what it is and well enjoyed my stay and will be going back soon, keep up the good work guys and take no notice of these 1 star reviews as they don't know what they are on about.

Stayed here for one night so that I could attend a work party. On arrival I was confused as to where to park. There is a car park around the back of the hotel but this is for the retail park only. I tried to park on a side street close by and was screamed at by a local resident that it was resident parking only. This is not the case as there was no signs stating this. Although I admit that the hotel states that there is no parking available upon booking, I was informed that there was on street parking close by but because of a crazy resident I moved my car and parked a distance away because I was afraid she would come out and key my car. So not a good start. However this is not the fault of the hotel. The hotel was very worn down looking on the outside, there was graffiti on the wall and did not feel very welcoming. When I walked into reception this feeling continued and the person sat behind the desk looked more like he was running a taxi rank rather than a hotel. He was talking on the phone for a while before he acknowledged that I was there. However once acknowledged, he showed me to my room and carried my suitcase for me which was nice. The room was mainly clean. Very tidy and modern. Basic but you get what you pay for. However for some reason the cleaner had thought it okay to put a blue pillow on my bed that had a suspicious white crusty stain on it which I threw of the bed to the floor. Although It was mainly a decent stay, I don't think I would stay here again. Please see the following as constructive criticism to make the stay better for others: There is a gap under the door and was woken twice by people talking in the corridor. Normally the doors in hotels that I stay at manage to keep out general chit chat as the other guests weren't even shouting. You need a grip mat in the shower as after using conditioner on my hair I found myself skidding around for dear life on the shower floor. In addition the shower did not heat up very well so this could be addressed. Keeping up the hotel exterior is key in making people feel welcome and safe.
