The surroundings for this run down and dated Travel Lodge I am likening to a scene from a horror movie. Set in an abandoned service station, complete with tons of rubbish, graffiti, boarded up buildings, scary car parks and it's very own bag lady living in her car. To be fair the room was clean enough and the reception staff pleasant but this one really should be pulled down. Music playing from somewhere nearly all night too - overall an awful stay in a very poor Travel Lodge. My recommendation - ADVOID.
Upon arrival it looked like the place was derelict as the service station was boarded up grass was overgrown and generally untidy. Once in side it wasn't much better, the carpets were absolutely filthy dust on surfaces and a smell that lingered through out my stay. I paid £20 for my dog to cover the extra cleaning of the room! I thinkI should have charged them as I had to clean my dog after sleeping in that room. I looked at a satellite view off the hotel and saw 3 quarry sites around so I take it the hotel is used by workmen during the week so explains the dirt.
The hotel was located off the m1, just outsode leicester, which is where i needed to be for work. There is plenty of parking because the next door services is shut. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. The staff also were friendly and helped me sort out wifi.
This was ideally situated for me - as I needed to travel into Nottingham and Leicester. Hotel was clean and comfortable which is all I want from a hotel when travelling. Despite being close to the motorway, the glazing kept out all the noise so a good night's sleep. Bathroom was fully functional - very happy
Arrived to stay 1 night before dropping my son off to Uni, arrived in the dark, car park poorly lit, coudn't see any security camera's and there were loads of people in trac suits smoking fags just staring at us. Decision time, do I take out his valuables from the car in front of them or leave them in the car? went into place carpet stinking but had little choice but to settle down. Decided to go out for Pub food by car in the evening (no evening food on site). Drove out of the place through the shut down ,boarded up service station exit. Started to think have I arrived on some zombie film set when going through this area. Took valuables in when I arrived back from pub . Hotel itself was fine but tired, car was fine when I inspected it in the morning , but this experience has put me off travelodge. It was the cheepest travelodge in the area and I totally get the reasons why…
