I went with my partner for a early evening meal on Saturday the 10th November at 6 pm.
There is no way its a 5 star facility as it was badly let down by a series lack of detail.
The restaurant was fairly empty as it was early for evening service.
First impressions were very good.
We were sat down quickly and ordered our starters and main.
We then had the wrong starters brought out so we had to wait for that to be corrected.
A waitress then came up looked at our starters and asked if we were enjoying our desserts!
In total we had 4 different waitresses during the meal!
There seemed to be a lack of communication between the staff.
Other tables were asked twice about if they had ordered after they had already ordered.
When our dessert menus were brought mine was not facing the correct way.
Its one of the small things that should be got right if its a 5 star restaurant.
The food was very good its just the attention to detail that sadly let it down

Perfect location with all the amenities I needed. But the location and the conceriege assistance were incredibly helpful.. with our time being limited we wanted to see the best!...and that is where Richard came to the rescue. the standards of the Royal Horseguard were exquisite and the kindness shown by the front desk were a relief to these exhausted travelers.

My husband and I stayed here recently as part of our wedding anniversary celebrations. And as it was also the centennial armistice day remembrance since the end of WW1 we were wanting to join in that - this really was a perfectly located place to stay.

The hotel is within a 5 minute walk of the Thames and we had a great view of the London Eye. If you are ok and happy to travel by underground then Embankment is the nearest station and again that is within a 5 minute walk. My walking times are realistic as I have bad knees so tend to walk fairly slow. We used the underground a lot and it gives you access to the Northern, Circle, District and Bakerloo lines so giving easy access to a lot of London !

Trafalgar Square is about 10-15 minute walk away and Houses of Parliament and Westminster about the same.

All in all a very well located hotel.

We chose to not include breakfast in our booking as we ate on Saturday at the Sky Garden but chose to eat in the hotel Sunday morning. This was no issue and they just charged it to our room. Breakfast was in a lovely restaurant with plenty of tables and a buffet of hot and cold food options. We had to ask for tea and toast but the restaurant was extremely busy and we were served very quickly once it was requested.

The reception foyer to the hotel had the most wonderful and welcoming fragrance of “White Tea” subtle and strong but not over powering, I loved it and now trying to find where I can but it too 😊. The staff were all very friendly and helpful in answering our queries when needed.

Our room was immaculate and I like the keyless entry system. The room was immaculately clean and I particularly liked the tv in the bathroom and the underfloor heating.

The air conditioning/heating system didn’t really work but thankfully it wasn’t really needed.

My only negative comment is when getting back to the hotel Saturday wet and cold due to the weather we fancied a liqueur coffee so thought we’d make use of room service so we could wrap up and dry in the comfort of our room. We were advised no can do ... we could order liqueur and a coffee but not a liqueur coffee. I was totally baffled and thought being such a prestigious hotel they would accommodate such a request as they would have all the ingredients etc. So we just settled for a cuppa done by the Hubble !

Overall a fab hotel and well worth the money !
Thank Abi

The first moment I saw the Whitehall Gardens and Royal Horseguards Hotel I wanted to stay there.
As I visit London twice a year for work I knew eventually I would make my way there, I always stay at some amazing hotel in my travels.
So when I knew I’d be in London for an overnight after a conference in Brighton I booked the Horseguards. I was excited. Unfortunately it didn’t last. Let me get to the review.

The good.
Steeped in rich history the architecture and grounds and decor are stunning. It’s a beautiful and convenient spot to be in London. Trafalgar Square, the river, and parliament are a short walk. Everything you need is right at your fingertips or a very short walk away.
The bathrooms are modern and lovely. The room is fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Or at least it appears that way.
Staff were all courteous and checking in was a breeze. They even got us early check in which was lovely.

The bad.
There isn’t really any bad. It’s either good or ugly.

The ugly.
Upon check in we arrived to our room and were thrilled. It was lovely. That is until we lay down on the beds and both cringed. They’re awful. Complete murder on the back. Hard as rocks. There’s no top sheet, just an overly starchy and itchy duvet. The pillows are flat, perfect for trying to give you a crick in the neck.
We both decided to brush it off and ignore it. It wasn’t bedtime anyway.
We went out and had a lovely lunch at the Corinthians then evening tour.
When we came back to the room we could hear voices and a TV and people taking soft steps. We realized it was the room next door. There is no sound proofing. We could listen to their TV show perfectly.
The bed and lack of sound proofing made for a fairly terrible sleep.
When we woke at 4:30 in the morning, jet lagged still and uncomfortable from the awful bed, we made our way downstairs to hopefully get some coffee. It’s a long flight back to western Canada and starting the day at 5am isn’t ideal. Only when we got downstairs we were told it was not an option to get coffee, not in the lounge or anywhere. It was suggested we go back to our room and make coffee or order it via room service. For me that’s a ridiculous notion. This is an alleged 5 star hotel in an international city with guests on varying time zones and you can’t get coffee in the lounge at 5am? No.
We went back to the bedroom to discover the makings of tea in the room, a tea pot and kettle. No coffee. No coffee maker.

All in all, a disappointment.
Would I stay here again? Not a chance. The bed alone is a massive issue for me. I like a comfortable bed. Not accommodating to international guests also annoys me. I travel a lot. I stay in a lot of hotels. This is absolutely not the norm in my experience.
Do I recommend this hotel?
No. You can do better for the same price and location.
If you do choose to stay here, walk over to the Corinthians and have breakfast. It’s far superior.

Dear Reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit with us at The Royal Horseguards Hotel. We do pride ourselves on our superb standards of service and standards so it is very disheartening to know that we did not get it right on your visit. The firmness of our Royally Approved Hypnos beds are certainly not to everyone’s liking. So on your next visit please do let us know and we’ll have a bed topper placed on your bed for added comfort and provide you with alternate pillows to ensure a good night’s sleep. On a positive note I am pleased that you found my team hospitable and were able to accommodate your check in earlier. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any member of the team should we be of any assistance at all on your next visit and we will ensure that you are well looked after. Kind regards Ian
