I was attending an event at the hotel and it wasn't scheduled to finish until 10pm, so I chose to stay over. The location was a short walk from the tube and the single room was perfect for one person. The staff were very friendly and helpful and check in and out was effortless. Breakfast was included and I chose a mushroom omelette which was freshly made and there was plenty of tea and coffee available. If I was over this way again and needed a budget room, I'd certainly stay here again.

We just stayed 1 night as a family in a quad room. The decoration in the rooms and common areas is dated, but if you can look past that, it is great value in a fantastic location. The staff were also really friendly and kind to the children.

I was really struggling what mark to give this hotel as some aspects were very good and others less so.

is excellent, opposite Hyde Park and the bus to Piccadilly and only a 2 min walk to Lancaster Gate Tube.

Staff were friendly and helpful at all times and the room ckeaning was good.

The downstairs lounge, bar and breakfast rooms are all very spacious and bright, complete with high ceilings and chandeliers.

The breakfasts were also very good with a choice of cooked breakfast and usual Continental offerings, although I would have liked to have seen some yogurt to go with my fruit.

The major issue with the place is that is in need of some TLC. It's been a hotel since around the mid 1970s, prior to this it was a base for US Air Force Officers and I'd be suprised if the bedrooms have seen a lick of paint since. In reality I think the whole place needs literally millions investing in it.

Our room was nice and spacious along with the bathroom, which had a nice 70's avocado suit and very old lino. The windows are the old sash style so rattled in the wind and needed bits of card sticking in them to stop the rattle. The curtains were also very thin and had holes in them.

The main guest lift was also out of order the whole time, meaning you had to use the cramped service elevator.

As you are on the Bayswater Road there is obviously some traffice noise and there is no air con so I can im
agine it might get stuffy in the high summer months, although you get a portable fan.

The place promotes itself as a Budget Hotel, so don't come with
any expectations of granduer.

We decided to host an event and then stay at The Columbia after visiting for food and drinks in the bar lounge one Friday evening. The events team was incredibly helpful and accommodating to help arrange a private party for 30-40 guests on a minimum-spend basis in the impressive and luxuriously styled Viceroy Suite.

The events team really helped to create a memorable night and we were able to have a specific menu available with selected dishes and cocktails, with the suite arranged with a private bar, lounge sofas and tables and seated tables on the terrace balcony, which we had private use of.

The building and event spaces are incredible and our guests enjoyed the party with many commenting on how amazing it was to be celebrating in a suite with a terrace overlooking Hyde Park on a summer's evening!

Myself and a few other guests decided to stay at The Columbia for the night, which worked out to be more affordable and less stressful than a taxi home. The rooms are well-sized and practical and offer a comfortable and quiet stay in a great location. The on site parking facilities meant myself and friends were then able to enjoy Hyde Park the next day and leave when we were ready, which made for a great weekend overall.

The Columbia hotel is brilliantly placed for Royal Albert Hall, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. It’s location at Lancaster Gate on the central line makes the location for the money excellent. It’s also dogs stay free which is brilliant for us!! All the staff love dogs and they can join you for breakfast in the restaurant! The rooms generally are a good size and most have baths and views over Hyde Park. The staff are friendly, the rate is budget and breakfast is included. We like pastries and croissants however we had to ask for jam and butter. If you are expecting full English with poached egg, this is not the place for you. The bed was super comfy, room was clean, hot water was plentiful and we were generally undisturbed.

So the next few bits may be hard to look beyond for some people. The lift is broken and only shabby service lift available, if you have mobility problems the stairs are hard and there is a bit step right outside floor 3 lift station, the bathroom suites are avocado, the floorboards squeak, the decor is dated, curtains have seen better days and the function rooms downstairs are often in use which means sometimes noisy in foyer!

Overall we value the ‘dog stays free’ arrangement, a continental breakfast is ok and the rates are excellent for the location. Stay here with an open mind, we have stayed twice and would stay again. Don’t go with airs and graces, you will be disappointed.

Just came back from a 4 night stay at the columbia, I booked a standard double with the flexi rate with breakfast which included upgrade to a cooked breakfast and free drink at the bar.on arrival I was informed that due to the number of guests (it was very quiet) no hot breakfasts were on offer and I should of been told that in my confirmation email which I wasn't. I was a bit annoyed but was assured that I would have a lovely continental breakfast in a bag outside my room every morning it was OK but I couldn't eat as it was all to very sweet but I did ask for toast on butter on the last morning which I had. Then the free drinks voucher I ordered a double jack daniels and coke and double gin and tonic I fully expected to pay for 1 measure but was charged £16.80 when I questioned was told by young girl that only covered soft drinks and beer. Anyway the hotel was OK room was fine bed comfy and cleaned every day very handy for tubes and buses and right on kensington Gardens and Hyde Park staff were nice and free parking a bonus will stay there again for price and convenience

Firstly, the locality, the outside of the beautiful building and general atmosphere were very good!
Our disappointment is more due to the room, staff and breakfast.
We had a standard double room which was small and depressing. Although we do realise that each room is different due to the age and style of the Victorian houses which make up the hotels, our room looked more like an economy room (based on the photos). The staff at reception was mostly very pleasant (although they did seem to change constantly). The staff at breakfast ranged from huffy polite to almost unpleasant. Not good at all, the breakfast itself was very disappointing. We knew we had the continental breakfast included in our room rate. This was not varied or very nice: rolled ham slices + cheese slices and hard boiled eggs EVERY day. Not top quality. A few other things: cereals, some fruit, bread and croissants. That’s it. This is satisfactory but we do not understand the high praises we read about the breakfast. We tried the English breakfast (extra) on one morning. This was quite good but no one even asked how we wanted our eggs cooked. We just got them as they came; sunny side up. Globally the hotel was ok when we take into consideration the price we paid (London is very expensive) but their could easily be so much improvement.

We found via Trip Advisor but booked direct for the free parking and cooked breakfast. We loved everything about this hotel. Our double room on the 3rd floor had plenty of space to spread out our suitcases. The bedding seemed relatively new and was very comfortable (we're 5'10 and 6'2). The room itself had character from the 20th century, but was very clean with all of the usual amenities.
The staff was friendly and helpful with directions. We were lucky enough to meet Monty, the resident dog, the first night of our stay. The location is absolutely perfect. When we return to London, we'll stay here again.

Some of the nicest people I've met in London work at the Columbia, The breakfast is hard to beat, and it's reasonably priced. I've been coming there for decades. It's right across the road from Hyde Park, and the 94 bus stops right out front to take you downtown.

We've used this hotel a number of times over the years because it has a good location with car parking.

It is an old building and so it isn't perfect but it has bags of character. It does seem like they are spending some money on it at the moment and there was a message in the room about plumbing upgrades. Our room was smaller than usual this time and the bathroom was definitely dated but it was all clean. One of the lifts wasn't working but there was another lift to use and there is always the lovely suspended staircases when feeling fit.

They don't do full breakfast service now and offered pastries, juice and hot drinks instead. Perhaps that is because business is quiet in the current pandemic situation, The bar is well stocked and had a good choice of drinks with suggestions from the friendly barman too. All the staff we met were helpful and pleasant which makes the stay all the better.
