The Gate London City hotel garners acclaim for its spotless environment, particularly the immaculate bathrooms and premium toiletries. Guests are charmed by its modern, welcoming atmosphere, though opinions diverge on the hotel's value and room sizes. Many appreciate the well-equipped kitchens and the variety at breakfast, despite some noting a lack of kitchen features and a hectic morning meal service.
The hotel's prime location is a highlight, offering easy access to London's attractions. While service is typically lauded for its professionalism, instances of disorganization have been flagged.

Detailed Reviews
From the greeting when we got there to leaving it was all great. Big mention to Gabriella and Renata who were so helpful and very kind.
The hotel is very central and only round the corner from Aldgate East Tube station.
We walked to London Bridge in the evening and had 'dinner' at The Minories at Tower Bridge.
The room that we had at The Gate was a 1 bedroomed apartment and it had everything that we could want. We asked for a high room away from the lifts and doors and were able to be accommodated. The apartment was spotless, all the crockery and cutlery were pristine and the white goods in the kitchen were really clean. The bedroom is compact, but there is a good sized wardrobe with space around the bed to walk around. There is also a huge TV on the wall. The kitchen, diner has a small Nespresso machine and a compact dish washer.
There is a terrace and lounge on the 5th floor and you can also get breakfast if you need it. There are lots of shops for food around and about.
There are really no complaints at all. Really pleased and we would go back.

Great location near several metro stations. It is also in walking distance from City, Tower Bridge, Shoreditch, and other interesting places in London. New and modern building, nice furniture, view from the windows. Great toiletries in the bathroom. Everything in the kitchen for cooking (except the pan btw). Nice bed and pillows. Comfortable lounge zone on 5th floor with free coffee and tea and wi-fi, so great place to work if needed.
But at the same time and it might be somehow related to this covid-situation but anyway. We stayed for 16 nights and there we no cleaning at all for the whole period. There were no changes for bad and towels and this is a shame. We had to ask for additional toilet paper and tablets for dish washer because very limited amount added by default. The walls are very thin between rooms and we heard all our neighbours talkings and tv shows, thank God it was ok when you close the door to the bedroom. Anyway, the whole stay was good but not great with this small things.

Myself and my partner visited for 4 days from 31st August - 4th September; due to COVID and our holiday abroad being cancelled we decided on a city break to London, I came across The Gate after searching Booking.com for weeks for a central hotel but without the high price tag. I was blown away with the price of The Gate after seeing hotel rooms for the same price or higher, dated decor and no freedom of a living/kitchen space so I jumped to the chance and reserved... boy was this the best decision I could of made! From arriving at reception to the day of leaving we were greeted by an amazing and friendly team. Our one bedroom - skyline apartment was perfect! We were on the 20th floor with a view that stretched to Canary Wharf, every time we were in the room I spent most of it sitting on the window seat gazing across the view and watching the day to day life of the movement below/planes flying by.
Prior to arrival I had sent an email asking about the sort of view we could expect as we were celebrating my birthday whilst there and my partners belated birthday as his had been during lockdown and I wanted the trip to be perfect to make up for a crappy few months so wanted to ensure we wouldn’t have a view of the bins or something unattractive 😂, upon entering the room we were greeted with balloons, prosecco and a card to us both which was an unexpected and lovely touch!
The room was spotlessly clean and have everything we required for our stay, we didn’t use the kitchen much as we ate out a lot but did use it briefly for making a picky tea with pizza etc. in which the oven was new, hi tech but easy to work out and use.
The bathroom was fresh and a perfect size, the rainfall shower head was great and the shower itself was a good size rather than feeling cramped in a little box.
We had the most amazing stay and absolutely will stay when we visit London again in the future as we couldn’t of asked for anything better!
Thank you so much to the fabulous team who work there, for the birthday surprise and overall stay - we loved our weekday break and it all started with the first impression of The Gate!

This place should be 5*! This aparthotel really sets it’s iconic standards better than any other. If you want an artistic modern stay or you like a hotel with apartment amenities then this place will tick all your boxes.
From the booking process to checking out the service here was 10/10. I would like to also give a big appreciation & thanks to both Renata & Anna for ensuring the stay was superb and making it a memorable moment for my parents 27th wedding anniversary. This was a needed break for them as they’re front line workers within the NHS.
Live the apartment dream with a variety of rooms to choose from, pick from a studio apartment to a two bedroom apartment. I stayed at the one bedroom apartment aka The Aldgate Apartment. All rooms are fitted with either a kitchenette or a full equipped kitchen. Some rooms feature a washing machine, which is good for long stays and enjoy panoramic views of the city straight from the comfort of your room. Enjoy TV’s in both the living area and bedroom with a good surround sound system and speakers for lively entertainment and sound.
If you want to get some space out of your room you’ll have access to their open lounge, where you can have complimentary self served soft and hot drinks, with a seating and table area which is great for getting work done or chilling out with a companion(s). There is also a terrace to get some fresh air and a gym to get them gains (Both Currently Closed Due To COVID-19)
This is the best aparthotel in London in my opinion and is currently a popular place to stay at. I’m also a travel agent and I have already been able to book this place for two clients who saw this on my socials and its only been a week since I left.

The reviews for this hotel have been for the most part pretty accurate. It is a solid hotel in a not so touristy neighborhood. The spacious rooms, lobby and lounge were really well appointed, and the hotel seemed to offer a good number of interesting events to keep things fresh. The lounge is cozy and the outdoor space and vibe were as hip and inviting as the photos suggest (although it was a bit too cold to enjoy when were were there). When the Tube is properly running, the hotel is just around the corner from the nearest stop. Unfortunately, our stop was closed (not the fault of the hotel) which made for a bit of a trudge from the nearest stop. The breakfast, although tasty, was somewhat limited and exactly the same every day, so that left a bit to be desired. We were opting to find items out and about for breakfast, which defeated the purpose of purchasing the breakfast from the hotel. We would probably skip that option in the future. Because this is an Aparthotel, the rooms and halls were not serviced regularly (someone left food they ordered in the hall and it sat for two days). However, other than towels, there was plenty to keep the well-stocked kitchen clean and staff were very responsive to any requests. Casey in particular shone in her excellent guest service. From booking cabs to fixing TVs to delivering towels, she seemed to do it all and "No" was not in her vocabulary. She was amazing. By the way, we had two rooms, and the sound bar was not properly connected in either. Casey fixed those, and you can bypass needing it by just using the TV sound, the person installing those did not seem to actually know how to properly connect them. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and would definitely book there again.

My girlfriend and I stayed for a couple weeks here and we absolutely loved it. It’s close to the station, about 2 min walk, you can’t miss it. There’s plenty of places to eat around the area and if nothing fancies you, St. Paul’s is about 15-20 min walk away, 25-30 to borough market with more options.
Our room consisted of a dishwasher, oven, induction stovetop, fridge and washer/dryer. Honestly nothing bad can be said about the room’s amenities. We used the washer literally every night because why not? There’s a spot by the window that you could sit (with cushions too) and look out into east London. The one thing I’d say was wrong with the room was the lack of internet TV (no Netflix or prime, etc) so you’d have to bring a cable to watch on your laptop. Our room’s bedside lamps didn’t work but it didn’t matter too much since we were out til late.
The lounge wasn’t used by myself but my girlfriend used it a few times for work and she says it’s a very relaxing area. There’s free drinks available and a QR code that you can scan to order food until a certain time. There’s also an outdoor lounge area to study/work if that’s what you fancy.
Overall I’d say the stay was great, it’s close enough to central London that you can walk, but also just outside that you can kind of experience a different type of London where people actually live.
Shout out to Ned at reception for actually remembering me when I checked out as well, not many people will remember their guests since there are so many coming in and out

Got to London and traveled on tube to Aldgate East station, be aware no lifts up to roadside from this station. 5 minute walk to the building and checked straight in even though we were 15 minutes early. Not sure if I missed the instructions but take ID (passport/drivers license) and be aware £150 damage deposit will be taken at the time of room payment. Our room was on floor 16 (1607) had a wonderful view. The room had a sink/oven/fridge/cutlery/crockery/Nespresso machine/kettle/mini cleaning kit. Shower in bathroom and instructions for amenities in the room via the TV. You could also link up your phone etc to the room. Instructions for air con did not match the unit in the room, but did not bother to speak to reception to resolve. All in all a great room, friendly staff, also gym & spa if you wanted them. Close by were plenty of eateries (Efes turkish, Pizza Union, Beef & Block) and supermarket if you wanted to cater yourself.

I came to stay in London and my colleague spotted this place which I think has only opened recently. It was gorgeous. The rooms are beautiful, the staff were really friendly and the room was a good size. My colleague had the larger, apartment style room which had a full kitchen where as I had the smaller room. It still came with an oven, decent sized mini fridge and all cleaning and cooking equipment you'd need. Will definitely stay there again

My wife and I stayed at The Gate in Whitechapel for six nights in October. We had booked a studio room and were completely satisfied. The staff was friendly and attentive, the room was clean and equipped with everything that makes a short stay pleasant: the small kitchenette was well equipped (large refrigerator, capsule machine, combination oven and microwave oven, kettle, crockery, glasses, cutlery, washing-up utensils), the soundproof windows are worthy of their name, the air
conditioning (on the lowest setting) was barely audible and the bathroomhad lovely Le Labo toiletries. Another plus point is the possibility, included in the price, of being able to get water, lemonade, various tea- and coffee-specialties in the lounge. The nearest tube station is Aldgate East just over a five minute walk from the hotel and there is a supermarket opposite the hotel.
If we come to London again, we would book the hotel again immediately!

The sky suites do. Not sure about others.
I have no idea. These are questions that you need to ask the hotel and your parents.
The breakfast is continental & is a small buffet with yoghurts, granola, pastries & juice. It's not extensive but it's enough.
I don't know about the difference in rooms sorry
Hi there! this is possible in some rooms.
