Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch receives mixed reviews from guests. While the hotel's location is often celebrated for its proximity to local hotspots, some guests feel that it lacks value for money, pointing to unexpected charges and disappointing experiences. The atmosphere and cleanliness are widely commended, with rooms providing stylish comfort and features like steam showers, yet opinions on decor and room size vary.
Amenities such as the gym and luxurious beds are popular, but occasionally, some facilities fall short of expectations. Service quality appears inconsistent, ranging from commendable to occasionally slow and unresponsive.

Detailed Reviews
By Virgin hotel standards this one isn’t up there as one of my favourites. Whilst the rooms are spotless and well laid out it didn’t feel like a virgin hotel other than than your red door to the room.
Bathrooms were excellent with good facilities including a proper steam
Shower.
Coffee making facilities in room and first day give you complimentary water and milk, thereafter you only get the milk and have to buy water. The mini bar was a good choice and loved the glasses supplied - very classy and boutiquey.
The hotel itself didn’t seem to have the v virgin vibe with the commons club very small and not a great place to
Meet. Overall hotel felt small and didn’t give you the normal virgin experience. The roof top for breakfast was fine and had a small outside area too.
For ÂŁ300 per night I did expect to get a good nights sleep. The beds and pillows were great but we happened to be above the entrance to the Marlins night club (affiliated to the hotel?) the noise from the patrons was awful especially when leaving between 3 & 4 am!
Although family were in rooms facing an internal courtyard and rooms were very quiet. Maybe we were just unlucky but it did spoil the break a little.
The location is a ten minute walk to Liverpool Street station with transport links and some nice restaurants in this area and towards Moorgate.
However I do feel the per night rate more warranted a hotel within central London.
Will try another a virgin hotel but unfortunately will give this one a
Miss.
All in all a pleasant stay in clean rooms but not quite the virgin experience I am used to

Faultless stay on a Sunday night taking advantage of their special deal which was a night's stay including breakfast, late check out to 1pm and free upgrade to the next level room.
Although the room could be described as small, this is London so we didn't expect anything less. However, it was really well appointed, comfortable and we really loved the split Chesterfield-style chairs round the table. It also had a Marshall Bluetooth speaker which was brilliant. Underfloor heating in the bathroom was also a nice touch as was the steam room function in the shower (although we didn't get chance to use it unfortunately...!).
As we were staying for my wife's birthday, the small cake in celebration of this was a nice touch when we got back to our room late at night.
Breakfast was amazing, freshly cooked and a huge portion which we both struggled to finish.
The rooftop area was amazing, especially given it was 29C when we stayed.
I disagree with previous comments about service from the staff between the hotel and the rooftop. I certainly didn't have any complaints and we were treated well by everyone we came across. In fact, I would struggle to know they were 2 different businesses.
Overall, we had a lovely stay and would happily go back today if we could...!

My partner and I stayed at The Mondrian in July 2023 for 8 nights. We were attending a training event that was being held at The Mondrian. We stayed for ease of accessing the event as I was an assistant for the program being held. I was consistently impressed throughout our stay. The service and professionalism of the staff, their kindness and care, and their willingness to help solve any personal or event problem we had, was truly the best I have ever experienced. From breakfast in the morning with kind service, a ready smile and knowing what we would be ordering after a few days, to the event staff responding with a smile at ever request, to the hotel cleaning staff who tidied our room with care each day and were always kind in the hallways, to the front desk staff who were ready and wiling to help and respond to any questions we had, our stay was one of the best we have ever had at a hotel. The rooms were comfortable with all the amenities we needed. We had a beautiful huge window, tea and water daily and fresh towels and a made bed. The steam shower was an added bonus and we used it nightly to relax and unwind. The restaurants had amazing service and food, and the location of the Mondrian was close by to all public transport, all the resaturates you could ever want and local sites. We woudl highly recommend The Mondrian and will stay here the next time we find ourselves in London. An incredible and seamless experience from start to finish. Thank you.

Hip hotel in a fun London neighborhood. We were treated very well at check in. Our room was very quiet. The staff did an excellent job with cleaning. They came by every single day and fluffed up the room with fresh towels, freshly made bed, and trash removed. It was above and beyond at a service level no longer standard post Covid. The sheets!!!!!! You literally slip into the bed. I asked on checkout how to purchase. They were that good! The bed was big and extremely comfy. Malin and Goetz toiletries were delightful. Last but not least was the over top and beyond compare large double faucet sink, separate water closet, and the steam shower. I think the floors were heated as well.
If you love a large lobby this is not your hotel. We were a couple traveling alone and had no need for large lobby.
Bonus points for signature scent and having it available in the rooms to purchase.

We found the facilities underwhelming for a 5 star hotel.
Too many things wrong with the room and when you are only staying for one night you don’t expect to have to waste time sorting out .
Basic vanity and sanitary products were not available . No slippers and floors are hardwood and tiled so would have expected slippers .
TV kept turning itself off .
Kettle was style over substance and frustrating to work out how to use .
Stains/splashes on the decor.
Curtain didn’t close properly - had to peg it shut with a hair clip to avoid light.
The natural wine on sale in the bar was extremely unpleasant. I did ask for another glass which was exchanged but still very unpleasant.
Just not the experience we had hoped for
We have scored higher than probably deserves because the reception staff were very nice and the bed was comfy .

Simply cannot say enough good things about this hotel! Not only were we able to check-in early and my room upgraded, but I walked into a surprise birthday setup with a sweet note, an indulgent slice of chocolate cake, and a bottle of red wine. Talk about a first impression! It was personal, thoughtful, and the perfect kick-off to an unforgettable 30th birthday stay.
The standout feature of my time here was the rooftop breakfast. (I know what you're thinking--really? Hotel breakfast? The answer is: REALLY. My husband and other travel clients I've sent here have all said the same.) The cocktail bar was great, and our perks program got us 2 welcome drinks was an added bonus. We also loved the gym set-up (probably one of the largest and nicest I've ever seen in a hotel property, with an extra plus being their 2 Peloton bikes.
In addition to the on-site features, our room featured incredible amenities, including a steam shower and heated floors that made mornings especially cozy. The bed was pure indulgence, again, one of the best hotel beds we've encountered. The location could be a *bit* better. It is about a 10-15 min walk to the Liverpool Station, but the Elizabeth line from the airport is incredibly convenient. Definitely a bit more off-the-beaten path in London, but you are really only 10-20 minutes away from all the action of downtown London. Also kind of nice to escape the true hustle and bustle of the packed downtown during the Christmas time festivities we were there for. Overall, 10/10 experience and will be recommending this place to anyone I know going to London.

The rooms were exceptionally nice and comfortable, providing a cozy haven after a day of exploring the city. One standout feature was the underfloor heating in the bathroom, which added a touch of luxury, along with the convenient coffee and tea bar.
However, I was slightly disappointed that the turndown service was only provided on the first night. For a five-star hotel, I would have expected this to be a nightly standard.
Breakfast was served at the Marlin on the top floor, where we dined three times. Unfortunately, the experiences on Saturday and Sunday were less than satisfactory. The service was inattentive and slow, clearly hindered by understaffing and a shortage of dishware. It felt quite disorganized. In stark contrast, Monday morning was a completely different story. The staff were attentive and everything ran smoothly, making for a pleasant start to the day. One downside for a five-star establishment was that drinks like coffee or water were not unlimited, and there were additional charges for extras like tomatoes with scrambled eggs. This felt a bit disappointing given the hotel’s rating.
Despite these breakfast issues, I highly recommend the hotel for its overall quality and comfort. The rooms and amenities were excellent, and the location is perfect for anyone looking to stay in a vibrant and trendy neighborhood. However, I would advise against paying extra for breakfast unless it's included in your stay.

Weekend stay with a family of five in early December, one twin, one double and one suite. Generally the hotel was great - nice quality, good facilities, clean etc. One or two tiny maintenance niggles but no big deal. Front desk staff friendly and helpful, good check-in experience. The room mini-bars are things of beauty, very well presented with plenty of unusual things in there...
We ate at the Bibo tapas restaurant, that was also good, food was really nice and the service was good too. Also had drinks in Christina's bar, once again good quality and friendly staff.
Our only big problem was breakfast up in the 7th floor restaurant. Nice setting, good views and the staff were friendly, but the quality of service was pretty low unfortunately. On day one we weren't offered water or juice, on day two one of the only two starters on the menu was unavailable. The staff then forgot to bring starters for three of the family, having to rush off and get them when we mentioned it as the main courses arrived. To cap it all one of the full English breakfasts arrived oddly without bacon..?
Even the breakfast menu that greets you is frustrating; it starts by making it extremely clear that your breakfast entitlement is ONE starter, ONE main course (one of the mains making it clear that you are entitled to only TWO eggs scrambled), ONE juice and ONE tea or coffee. Should you want a second coffee or orange juice (heaven forbid) then they become chargeable at ÂŁ4.50 per item...
When you finally come to check out of the hotel, you find that they've also added a 12.5% service charge against an inflated nominal cost amount for the two days' breakfasts (which were of course in the B&B package with the rooms)!
Given that our room packages cost the best part of ÂŁ3k for the two nights, I think I would've liked a slightly better breakfast experience. Even Premier Inns do it better than the Mondrian Shoreditch!

The Mondrian Shoreditch is definitely not a five star hotel as advertised. The service was mediocre at best. The room was small, the shower smelled of mold, and the rooms were not cleaned until very late in the day. We were also charged 4.50 for the use of the room service tray. Very tacky.

Overall, this hotel is okay, but I certainly wouldn't say it's worth the money.
For context, we've previously stayed in the Virgin Hotel in Edinburgh which felt very Virgin and the decor was exceptional. We felt this hotel lacked in all the special nooks that Edinburgh had, and frankly the room decor here was odd - I don't understand the use of so much green when your brand colour is red. The restaurant and bar areas were also very small so we didn't use them. There was a rooftop pool, and it looked okay from what we could see but again, it was small.
Location wise, you're a short walk away from Liverpool Street Station here. I think we'd prefer to be closer to a tube station than this is, sadly.
Our room (decor aside) was comfortable but found it hard to manoeuvre around the bed as there was only a small gap between the bed and the window. The steam shower and bathroom facilities were excellent, however and the room was spotlessly clean. We were lucky to have an room facing into the hotel, as family were woken by the nightclub noise on the Saturday evening - something to note if booking.
The staff on reception were friendly and helpful when needed and all the staff we met in the corridors were lovely too.
Overall, I don't think I'd stay here again. It missed the mark of the expectations set by the Edinburgh Virgin Hotel, sadly and felt it wasn't worth the money we paid.
