We visited the public house part of this establishment on a Saturday evening for a meal and drink. It was not a particularly welcoming environment at all - dingy, tables in need of clearing and cleaning, a strangely damp smell and, worst of all, a lack of staff. There was only one person serving both bar and tables with a...

Dear Nick and Julie, I cannot describe how surprised I am from reading your account of your recent visit. I gather this is definitely us as you are familiar with the area, however your account of events as you say yourself seems unreflective of the other guests' experiences with our site. The two main points that flag up to me...

The staff are very pleasant and helpful, food is good value and the location is excellent. I've paid more to stay in far worse hotels in this area. Hotel is comfortable and quiet although there is a bar downstairs.

Very fast and free wi-fi. The situation is good as well, near Tower hill station of DLR and near the subway. In short,...

Location, price, staff service, cleanliness, room, everything was fantastic. The hotel is attached to a pub and this too became part of our nightly routine as the last drink or two of the day. Everything was perfect. Definitely will be returning.

Faultless in every way, we loved staying at the Chamberlain. We returned for another couple of days at the end of our Europe trip. We recommend it to anyone wanting a quality stay in London. Tower Bridge right around the corner.

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
