Detailed Reviews
Was at Chelsea Guest House christmas time 1919 for a 4 day private trip. The original plan was just one night but I felt very well just from arriving there.
So I asked if I could extended my stay and was lucky - moving to the (partner linked) Clapham Guest House. Both rooms were top and all the staff - from receptionists to room cleaners - the most friendly and helpful persons one could ask for.
Thanks a lot to everyone. I will try again to catch a room whenever again going to London.

The manager Karolis, is very professional and a genuinely lovely man. He made me very welcome and was very helpful and kind. I was in a room in the basement but had two lovely big windows that opened wide onto a bright courtyard. The room was freshly painted all white and a beautifully comfortable bed with white linen and a white tiled en suite. It is very clean and a good size. It is next to a McDonalds but there is a big wall between you and I barely heard a thing and definitely no odour.
Its a very good area and as a woman travelling alone this and all of the above made me feel very safe which is very important to me. Reception is just a phone call away at all times. There are loads of buses just yards away and a 10 minute walk to underground and 2 minutes to overground. There's a convenience store over the road and Tesco Express 5 minutes away. Every takeaway you can imagine close by and delivery to hotel is allowed. Plus lots of restaurants and coffee shops.
Because of Covid I didn't want to use public transport and walked to Tate Modern, Westminster Abbey, Tate Britain, British Museum, British Library, Saatchi Gallery and V&A. Often via the beautiful Embankment and different Thames bridges between 40 mins and and hour or so.
I would definitely come back to Chelsea Guest House. Great value for London and great service all round.

Booked their sister guest house the Clapham Guestouse, but when I collected my keys at the Chelsea Guesthouse, I found that they had upgraded me to their guesthouse to save me a 10 min walk. The receptionist was extremely friendly and very helpful. I needed a bed for the night handy for Clapham Junction, to get me to Gatwick at 5.30am..
I let myself out and left the key in the letterbox. Room was small but very comfortable with a double bed and en-suite shower. The big plus was a kettle for tea and coffee, and there was a small television set too.
I stayed on the 24th March when the UK went into lockdown and I was very grateful that the guesthouse had remained open. If I needed a bed for the night in the future I wouldn’t hesitate to choose this guesthouse.

Located on a busy road so there is a lot of noise if your room is facing the main street. The receptionist on our first day was very helpful and offered to move us to a room at the back, although unfortunately there was a lot of building work going on behind us! Twice we've come to our room after cleaning and found bed sheets to have stains on them! When my bf complained they either didn't know what to do or just handed him a sheet and asked him to change the bed himself! when they came to change the sheets for us they accused us of making those stains! Unfortunately the cleaning in the room wasn't that good either; we found old food wrapping and crumbs on the floor and the surfaces were very dusty. We will not stay again.

Easy 20 minute walk from Brixton (our location for the night) stayed Friday 15th September Room small and clean, shower Luke warm at best and had to ask for towels. Main problem was 5am fire alarm no staff on site no answer from the contact number or the sign outside (mailbox full) no emergency contact details on rooms and resulted in having to contact the fire brigade. Will add further detail once have had a chance to discuss with management who on request at reception this morning I was advised would be available on .... MONDAY

Responded Dec 21, 2021
Dear 356pennyc, Many thanks for taking time to review experience at Chelsea Guest House. We are happy to hear, that location was good for your stay and price completely matched the quality. We re terribly sorry for the incident which happened early hours of Saturday morning at Chelsea Guest House, when fire alarm system was activated. We do have staff member staying in house during the nights in building 372, where reception is located and his mobile phone is connected with the fire alarm system in case of activation, however, on this occasion technologies let us down and he couldn’t attend on time. Manager personally received automated call also and attended site as soon as he could at 06:45am, so we are fully aware about everything and once again apologise for that. Fire alarm was activated due to damage of smoke detector in one of the rooms by the guest. We are already in recruitment process to start again having reception open 24/7, which is the key thing to ensure safety and comfort of our guests stay and avoid situations when technologies let everyone down. Hope to get another opportunity from your side and welcome back at Chelsea Guest House in near future.

The hotel was chosen for location, near to the start of the London to Brighton cycle ride, which we were preparing for. The room had three single beds, tea and coffee making, a small bathroom, and an area for bike storage. The staff were friendly, and they recommended an Ethiopian restaurant nearby which was super.

The location is good, but the McDonald's next store, was a problem for us. Our room faced the McDonald's It was nice to eat there, but it was so warm that day we had to have the window open, did not get much sleep seeing the McDonald's was 24 hours... (Not hotel's fault). Staff was friendly and limited parking is available for extra charge which is very tight and awkward. Bed was comfortable. Maybe invest in wall air conditioners units for the McDonald's side for the summer

First impression from outside was perhaps not the best look. However coming inside it appear to be very well maintained and clean, and not least a very service minded crew met me. During my 3 days stay I was happy to meet 5 or 6 from your staff, and every single person was smiling and met me with great attitude and service mindness. Thanks a lot!

+1
The bed is really comfortable. The room is small but very neat & clean. Our room was on the groundfloor, so a bit noisy with people coming in and out. Every day clean towels if you leave them in the bathroom. Very kind & helpful staff. Good connection to different parts of the city. Good breakfast left of the guesthouse called Delicias, Portuguese delicatesse with great sandwiches. Cross the street going up and at the end go right under the bridge the more lively part with restaurants & pubs, try Mommie, Japanese /Peruvian fustian dishes. Next time I would book here again!

Without a doubt the worst nights sleep I've ever had! It's very clean and tidy and staff are nice to your face so I thought it would be good...I was wrong.
They reckon it's soundproofed, the noise was unreal, people screaming and shouting in the hallways all night, squeaking stairs with people thundering up and down, woken up every half an hour! Then someone was hammering away on the front door, staff didn't stop any of this. No noise policy?! I was absolutely furious.
We were also given a room right next to building works, as in RIGHT outside the window on the ground floor, we could have shaken hands through the window, we had to close the blind as the builders kept staring in! We weren't warned they were right outside, and we got their cigarette smoke through the window all the time we were there.
Hotel accepts absolutely no responsibility as they're just in it for money, so booking gave me 10% back, absolutely ridiculous. They are scam artists, I have never known anything like it.
The image attached you can see that's the builder literally right outside.

Download the free Citymapper app. It's terrific for getting around London, and easy to use. You can also check the TFL (Transport For London) website.
You can get the number 87 bus to Abingdon Street then walk to Palace Yard. The bus takes about 20 mins and then it's an 8 min walk to Palace Yard. Or get the Northern Line underground train from Clapham to London Bridge which is about 20 minutes and about 6 or 7 stops away
Hi Ange. Very easy, as I'm sure that the receptionist will book one for you as they did for us. Pick up straight outside, not far to travel, not expensive & dropped us at the Academy. No problems at all.
Dear guest, thank you for contacting us. We de have parking facilities, there is an extra cos of £20 for that and it has to be booked in advance. We hope it helps. If you have any more questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
