We stayed here in October 2015 on a Shearings holiday to Whitby and the hotel and it's staff were great. The hotel is in an excellent location, fantastic views of the bay, harbour and Whitby town. It is located in a prime position with easy access to the town and beaches. The hotel itself was very clean, had a great...

We paid for an upgrade to a room with a sea view. The standard of cleanliness was excellent. OK, it's an old hotel but the public rooms were beautifully decorated. There is a nice bar area leading to the dining room. The dining room is actually "rooms" with about four leading on from one another. There is no great atmosphere...

My wife and I have visited this hotel twice and enjoyed it both times. The rooms are spacious, very clean and the rooms we have stayed in have both had great views. The staff are also friendly on the whole. The dinning room is well laid out and food is just like all other bay hotels we have stayed at,...

I appreciate you taking the time to share your review. I’m pleased to see you enjoyed your stay and will continue to holiday with us. Your comments will be well appreciated by the team. With regards to the case situation there seems to be some confusion. As a rule we don’t allow guests upstairs until the rooms have been cleared...

We've stayed at the Royal hotel a couple of times and this time we paid the extra for a sea view room.. We were given a room on the 3rd floor with the best view in Whitby - overlooking the east cliff and the Abbey. Unfortunately the room itself badly needs renovating, the windows were thick with condensation each morning...

This hotel survives on the quality of it's food, great staff in the restaurant and the awesome views from most rooms. I cannot give it higher marks because it needs more investment in it's appearance exterior and upgrading inside in places. But despite that it was spotlessly clean and a great base for seeing north Yorkshire.

Having read a few negative comments, we were extremely pleased with all aspects of this hotel and we would definitely use it again to explore the Whitby area. The service was very good, with all staff being extremely friendly and welcoming at all times. A particular mention has to be our waitress Gabriella who was rushed off her feet, but...

We were pleasantly surprised at the Royal Hotel in Whitby. We went on a Shearings coach holiday for 4 nights. We had a lovely room, number 236, which looked out on to the sea to Captain Cook's Monument (not Whitby Abbey). The curtains and bedding were new, fresh and clean, with the room being kept immaculately during the week. We...
