Cannot comment on this as a place to stay, but as a pub it is perfectly adequate if you are at this end of town. Good choice of ales at reasonable prices. Menu looked okay, if a little basic, but then there is no shortage of choice if you need it.
We went in on a Friday night for the live music - it has a nice atmosphere and the people were really friendly. A couple of other places offer live music on Fridays but this place seems to be the most popular - a fun way to spend a Friday night.
Where to begin... The polite yet barely english speaking lady who left us for an age to check in was awesome at attempting to charge me twice for the room. She was bettered only by the mute who showed us to our room. My ears are still hurting from straining! I especially enjoyed the hand sanitizer explosion up the wall. What an odd place to put a sanitizer! The room... oh my word. Who knew we would get so many spiders free of charge? They were outnumbered only by the dust mites! On a positive note you kinda forget about insects when you look at the mildew in the shower... takes some skills to get it that dark. An unexpected bonus was having the strictly come dancing cast in the room above us... it was so serene listening to their not at all clumpy footsteps until 2am! The only negative I could fathom was the level of the window sill which when you pulled the curtains open the next morning didnt provide me any dignity whatsoever. Hopefully my mid morning flash will have acted as a warning to anyone else considering booking there! Seriously though... hygiene was high on the agenda... at one point whilst mid service of a beer the foreign poor english speaking one went to the toilet.... MID PINT! Fortunately I managed to get my missed sleep at various junctions and traffic lights the following day. And there's me thinking the only horror in Whitby was Dracula. Well... now I'll count Cackula as the other local horror!…
The men's toilets were rank, I haven't smelled such a dirty toilet for many years. The food was so so, and the salt and peppers pots were rusty and dirty. I cannot believe the place is allowed to stay open with its poor hygiene.
We had lunch here and the food was great. We had no idea where to eat as there was plenty of choice so we chose this place as it looked good from the outside. The jumbo cod was really good, the batter was lovely and not greasy. The chicken burger was also very good . The service was good. …
