Lovely guesthouse 10 / 15 minutes south of the city centre. Clean, great breakfast, easy to park, quiet. Owner is charming and very friendly. Comfortable warm room, ensuite small but it's there so no worries.

Pleasantly surprised by this stay. Comfortable room, friendly people running it who gave a warm welcome on arrival. Easy walking distance from station. Breakfast was wonderful, great choice of stuff to pick from. If I ever need a place to stay in York again it will more than likely be here

hostess was lovely, breakfast was very good, and York is a great place to visit, however the room itself (ground floor) was very noisy (road and people coming in at night) the bed was far too soft for us and I ended up sleeping on the floor, and the permanent smell from the macerator in the toilet was quite bad....

Friendly. Clean. Lovely food. Warm and welcoming. Farthings ticks all the boxes and is conveniently situated at walking distance from the City Centre, with on-street parking (with free Guest Permits). Helen and her mum make every effort to look after their guests and having stayed for 3 nights I can confirm that this place deserves its high ratings. One of...

I booked one night for a single room at Farthings. The experience totally beats my expectation. Room was tiny but classy/cozy, with everything you would expect from a hotel - in-room tea, coffee, cookies and even a bathrobe! Breakfast was another highlight. I ordered a full English breakfast and there's a breakfast bar that you can eat to your heart....

My fifth five-night visit in five years. Helen and her mother, Shireen offer a friendly welcome, a warm comfortable, clean room, huge tasty breakfasts and go out of their way to make you feel "one of the family". The guest house is in a quiet street within easy walking distance of the rail and bus station and the main shopping...

We had a very comfortable stay here! As soon as we arrived, our hostess gave us a city map and marked the top spots and how to walk to them from Farthings. Our room was cutely decorated and comfortable- in room tea and coffee, large bed, the bathroom tiny but adequate. The only downside was the noise- the walls were...

We stayed in room 2. It is a bit cramped, particularly the shower /saniflow toilet. However, Helen could not have been more helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much bother and the breakfast was excellent; plenty of choice and lots of locally sourced ingredients. It's also an easy walk into the centre. Recommended.

We stayed as a family in Rooms 1 and 2 recently and were seriously concerned about the cleanliness of the showers in both bathrooms. In room 2 you can hear people talking when going up and down the stairs and entering the dining room. It felt like someone's front room and not a bedroom. Check-in time was after 5pm, not...
