I've been visiting The Black Swan for 30 years. It's a great old pub, which any visitor to York really should see. Sadly, it's surrounded by some ugly modern buildings. I used to stay here quite often, but it gets booked up well in advance these days. We received a warm greeting when we visited the other day, a nice,...

On March 23rd I stayed here with my daughter and a friend for just one evening, and wished we'd booked for longer. The inn is oldey worldly, and truly delightful. The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful, and nothing's too much trouble. The meals are delicious with decent sized portions, and reasonably priced. Unfortunately we didn't see any ghosts,...

Sandwich made with dry and mouldy bread. Beef was old and dry. No apology or offer of refund. Everything in the bar was greasy and dirty. Nice bottle of Merlot, though. The barmaid attempted to be friendly but was unhelpful. I see that I am not the first person to have complained about mouldy bread.

Rounded off a lovely weekend at york with Sunday lunch at the Black Swan. Food was home cooked and excellent. Fish pie was the best we had tasted. Well done to the chef and all staff will definitely be back next time we visit.

Called in on a busy Saturday afternoon, getting a drink was slightly chaotic but we got served eventually. Hadn't booked a table for food but was told there was one available so got seated straight away, although you can't eat in the bar area and have to go into another room where the food is served. We only had a...

I organised a birthday party for my mother-in-law in the ghost room (which is amazing). The party was a success due to the excellent buffet provided by Maggie and wonderful hospitality provided by Andy and his amazing staff. Thank you from all the Eden family x
