Stayed here for one night, great location for all of Yorks attractions. Room was excellent, good size and exceptionally clean. Staff very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ensure our stay was one to remember. Great breakfast. Will return.

From the outside it looks a bit down at heel and, to be honest, it could do with a wee freshen up. But this is more than made up for by Mark, the proprietor. Very attentive, without being smarmy. He helped me out with an umbrella and a shoe-shine kit - thanks Mark. Very good breakfast (not a patch on...

We were recommended the Gillygate for food. We weren't disappointed! Great food, I had the pie which was very tasty and filling, my wife had the fish pie, again very nice and filling! We managed puddings afterwards. If you enjoy fish & chips, again well worth it! Great staff, nice atmosphere.

Really enjoyed our stay. The locality, 5 min walk from the Minster was ideal, we could come and go with ease. With our own access key. Very close to the City Wall walk, will do that next time. Daughter and I had the attic room, two single beds up a good hearty climb upstairs. Loved the layout of beds, so...

Mark and his wife couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome from the moment we arrived, parking limited so leave your keys to enable Mark to expertly move around the cars. Our room was on the main road but honestly we didn't hear a thing from street below...

Having never been to York before its always difficult to know where to stay, what is good value, distances from main attraction, railway station, etc. Having read the reviews for the Gillygate we decided to give it a try, it was only one night after all. We weren't disappointed. It is an easy 10/15 minute walk from the train station...

This was an amazing place to stay. When we arrived the staff helped us with parking, helped us carry out very heavy bags, and they were incredibly polite. The room was great as well. Clean and cute. Even when we were leaving, there was an issue with parked cars in the back. The staff actually came out to handle the...
