Guest House was clean, comfortable, and convenient. We took a bus to York, and it was a short walk to the house. Host welcomed us with maps of the city and suggestions for nearby activities. Bed was comfortable and full size toiletries were provided in the bathroom. Great breakfast was provided.

Hotel was easy to find and just a short walk from the York Minster, perfect location for exploring the city (5-10 min walk from the Minster). I took a single room with en suite. All clean, tidy and comfortable and was also quiet. Friendly staff, good options for breakfast and can't beat the price either! Highly recommended and would stay...

Wonderful B&B with the hosts being extremely helpful. Your choice for breakfast is cooked to order and can be varied. Rooms are spacious, even by English standards. Easy walking access to all major attractions in York. We have stayed in many B&Bs throughout the world and this is one of the best, far better than its rating.

Upon arrjval the host gave me an excellent overview of York and all there is to do. Both of them were very friendly and available. I misheard the breakfast times and came down after it had ended, but they served me no problem, although I made sure to be down earlier the next few mornings! But it was delicious and...

Stayed here for one night and it is just outside of the York town center. Very friendly and helpful hosts, especially helpful to Americans who are not used to driving and parking in small villages. There is parking in the narrow driveway next to the B&B or across the street in a larger lot. Our breakfast was good and a...

This is a guesthouse that is full of charm - from the hosts to the decor. It's a lovely guesthouse with buckets of character and a delicious cooked breakfast each morning. It is minutes from the centre of town, a very short walk to York St John University and in a lovely, safe area. There are plenty of bars, cafes,...

Arrived here just before midday and although check-in was late afternoon, the room was ready for us to use straight away. Not only that, but the man from the guest house stood outside so I could find the place and also moved his car so I could park mine. He then helped me with my bags to the room after...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Monkgate Guest House is 200 years old and is only five minutes walk from York Minster and the city centre where you will find beautiful shops and restaurants and all York's attractions close to hand. The property was originally three Georgian cottages so it is cosy and rambling with the quaint features you would expect from an older property. We have two rooms on the ground floor and the other rooms are on the first floor accessed by a flight of stairs. Our breakfast room is warm and inviting and we provide a full, freshly cooked English breakfast with eggs cooked to your requirements alongside the other menu options. We have limited off street parking in a narrow driveway at the side of the house, you will be able to forget your car then and walk to all the amenities! We can however try to arrange more parking if necessary. Free wifi is available in the public rooms and most bedrooms. ... more   less
