Separate to the main building is a converted steadying with 4 individual rooms. My room (No 1) was spacious, clean, warm & with all required facilities. Excellent shower, comfy bed etc, only downside is that the railway is just behind the building, last train at 1030pm!

Booked for a family Sunday lunch Food was ok - small issues culminating for example, something not right about the turnip that was served with the dinner, the bun that came with the soup was burnt on one side, the Yorkshire’s were soggy in the middle. The service was slow. We didn’t get our dinner until after 1pm (we were there early for our 12pm booking). After the last person put their spoon down from finishing our desserts they were straight over telling us they needed the table in 5 minutes. We felt very rushed and that we were essentially being kicked out. While I have no issue with the premise of sittings, you need to be on the ball and give us a chance to actually enjoy our food and have the option of a coffee after we finish. The service was not prompt resulting in

We stayed here for 4 nights. The rooms are newly built, spacious and well-planned. It is very handy having the inn next door, for breakfast and dinner (or lunch if you are around during the day). The inn has a good rural location, very handy for places like Hexham and Hadrian's Wall, and an easy drive into Newcastle; near but sheltered from the A66; and sandwiched between the South Tyne river and the Newcastle-Carlisle railway line (which is, however, barely noticeable). The welcome was very warm, though the regular staff were considerably more clued-up than some of the temporary (but perfectly pleasant) restaurant servers. The range of food on the menu was astonishing and the portions were very generous. The cooked breakfast was good too. Our only (small) complaint was that the

Used the Boatside for a couple of evening meals whilst staying at local bed and breakfast accommodation. First impressions were good - large car park, outside drinking and kids play area. Food available in the bar or restaurant. Interesting menu with a mix of local food like Northumberland sausage, popular burgers of fish and chips, extending to West Indies and Vietnamese dishes. Well stocked bar - attentive staff. Well cooked food with massive portions - so large that the wife had to request half portions. No negative points.

This was on our list of places to visit whilst on our holiday and as we were in the next village along although it was a drive we were not disappointed. The place looked great from the outside covered in fantastic hanging baskets and troughs filled with lovely bright colours. Nice beer garden even though it is set right on the bend of a main road. They have accommodation at the back which looked nice and clean. the pub itself is divided into a restaurant and a bar area. The bar area has split seating with a small area containing 5 tables and chairs all set up for eating at as well as the tables in front of the bar The bar area is dog friendly and they are hoping to win the award for the most dog friendliest pub in the area, although they need to offer doggy biscuits like most

So me and my partner had booked and come to the boat side inn... when we first walked in the waitress looked at us but still proceeded to talk and laugh on for a further 5 minutes... she finally seated us at our table and asked us what we would like to drink. They came and took our food order from us which was fine and not long after our food came out... but we still hadn’t had our drinks so I asked and I was informed they forgot to do them.. when he had made them he put them on the side and asked his work colleague to bring them over 3 time and no one did so I went and got them myself and had to ask for sauces... the Sunday lunch wasn’t the best I’ve ever had at the boat side inn... the Yorkshire’s weren’t edible they were extremely burnt.... we got one bit of beef... 2 under

We stayed in the Boatside for one night and had a meal on the restaurant so we could meet family and catch up. We were travelling with our dog so chose a dog friendly room. The room was bright and clean with lots of nice touches such as toiletries, tea, coffee and biscuits. Free WiFi really helped. It was very quiet - there is a railway line behind the hotel but we only heard one train and that was early evening. It was also really handy to be able to park our car right outside the room. As we had our dog with us we had to eat in the bar - dogs not allowed in the restaurant. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Food was very nice and reasonably priced with a decent wine menu. Breakfast was very good - not just the usual cheap bacon and sausage. All in all a really

Called in for Sunday lunch, the car park was extremely busy and I thought we wouldn't get a seat, no problem, the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The menu choice was very good, we had prawn cocktail and garlic mushrooms for starters, delicious and a very generous serving. For mains I had the roast lamb, very tasty and there was a huge amount of vege, seven in fact plus a lovely Yorkshire pudding and very tasty gravy, my husband had the pasta which he also said was tasty. We didn't attempt the puddings as we were full but they looked very appetising. All in all a very nice Sunday lunch at a reasonable price.

We visited here for a drink and light meal while walking, and were very surprised by the prices. While the drinks were just above average, we had welsh rarebit which was £6.95 for one slice of pre sliced bread with some over cooked rarebit on the top, this came with tomato pickle which was essential due to the over cooked toast and a small side salad, about a tablespoonful in size. We also had to wait a very long time for this poor offering. What also didn't add to a friendly atmosphere was the new landlady doing the rota in the bar, asking questions of the bar staff regarding their availability. The other food on the menu was also expensive with the steak being eyebrow raising.
