I have stayed few places in Nottingham and St James is probably one of the best considering the budget. Rooms are clean and comfortable and packed with everything you need. Good screen size TV, a working heater( rarity in most hotels) and a powerful shower(another rarity to have decent water pressure 2nd floor up any hotel these days). Most importantly everything looks clean and smells fresh. I wasn’t in love with dark Halloween theme like interior of the lift, or early morning catch up of latest gossip by cleaning staff in the corridors, but that is everywhere and you can’t complain much. Overall top scoring place of stay for me.…
We've recently visited this hotel restaurant for an afternoon tea which I'd booked from Groupon. One of our party has special diet requirements and the staff totally went out of their way to help us by making a separate meal and dessert. Each member of staff that we came into contact with were the friendliest staff ever. We can not thank them enough for making our day extra special. We were sat in the top part of the restaurant and the light shining in made it feel lovely. The food was very nice indeed and I would recommend to anyone. It's been an enjoyable experience.…
We stayed here on a groupon deal and were very pleased with the hotel - the staff were all lovely and the room was very pleasant and comfortable The breakfast was lovely , everything you could want - we would definitely stay again if in the area and would have no hesitation recommending the hotel to others We had afternoon tea which was delicious, fresh sandwiches, cakes, scone and cream and jam and lovely hot tea - what more could you want ?…
I have been staying here for last three weeks with work. When you walk in downstairs the hotel seems nice and has been nicely decorated. However, as soon as you enter the lift it’s a completely different story. Run down and aged is how I’d summarise it. The rooms are average size but are old and dated. All the time I have been here the WiFi has never worked properly, leaving me unable to work or watch Netflix in the evening. I only ate here the very first night and it was awful so have gone out every other night. The breakfast is average and usually not got everything available and like many other reviews I’d agree that the staff are all a bit rude. The reception staff also hide away in a room Behind reception and I have had to wait considerable time for anyone to appear. Another thing to be aware of is that the hotel is close to a very lively bar area where you get a lot of noise in the early hours. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone! Advice to management: hire a new GM to work on service and best practice and redecorate! And for goodness sake replace the WiFi!!! …
The hotel is in a great location only a short walk from the centre, yet is nice and quiet. We were greeted warmly on arrival and found the team on reception to be friendly and helpful throughout our visit The room was well sized and comfortable, and although there was no air conditioning, there was a much needed fan in the room to help cool it down The bathroom needed some attention however, as the shower head had to be held when in use, the tap was only balanced on and the temperature control was broken and hard to operate. These were all brought to the attention of staff as we checked out, and we were happy with the resolution. Hopefully the maintenance team will fix these issues quickly for the next guests Our biggest issue was with the staff at breakfast. We stayed 3 nights, and on the first morning the staff were quite surly, giving very little information although there was enough for us to go on. The second morning however, the person who "greated" us literally took a room number and walked off. No "good morning" or any instruction as to where to sit or where everything was. We spent about 15 minutes just trying to get someone to acknowledge us so we could order tea and coffee! That said, the staff this morning were very good The parking is a little confusing, but the reception staff gave very good instruction. There is an underground carpark a few streets away that has a key coded lock. Once there, the bays are almost un marked and we were worried we could easily get blocked in. There were no issues in the end Overall this is a decent hotel, but we wouldn't consider it to be "luxury boutique" as the website claims. We would however consider staying here again, particularly because of the excellent location …
