Two travellers, youthful teenage son and middle-aged fat dad. Twin room at the top of the hotel, overlooking Broad Street, opposite the entrance to Balliol College. Absolutely perfect location for attending conference or visiting Oxford--everything close by. Tesco and Sainsbury grocery stores about 2 minutes' walk from hotel. Room was warm when we visited; there is a portable air conditioner...

What a great location in the center of old town. Excellent attentive staff. Very good morning breakfast. Five stars except for........ Accommodations were good. There are no elevators and you have to navigate winding stairwells, even to just get to reception. It was 44 stair steps up to our room up several winding stairwells. So do go and enjoy this...

Vastly overpriced, substandard breakfast, the number of stairs would better suit a mountain goat! We've had better bedrooms, both in layout, size and finish for £40. Never again! (On behalf of my mam and dad, both 77)

Oh dear a terrible review is always upsetting as we like to think we offer a good value stay in Oxford. If you compare our prices to other four star guest houses in the town centre we do always offer a very competitive rate. It is always advisable to check with a hotel either on the website or over the...

I've read many reviews here, was well aware of the steep stairs, of the lousy breakfast, but also of the good reviews. The central location in Oxford made us decide to chance it and I'm so glad we did. Yes The Buttery is not perfect, but it's fun, it's an experience, and if you avoid the scrambled eggs you can...

Echo other reviewers who experienced the terrible breakfast. Warm yogurt and orange juice, undercooked sausage, rubbery scrambled eggs, etc. We also had to deal with the noise level on Sat. night, and bees flying into the room, who were attracted by the street light right outside the window (no screens in the UK). Otherwise, the location is perfect, the staff...

The Buttery is a in a great location for seeing central Oxford by foot. You emerge straight into The Broad, one of the most atmospheric streets in town, opposite the Trinity, close to Balliol, St John's, The Bodleian. The rooms and service are basic but ok, the staircases are steep, the breakfast in a crowded but friendly cafe, reasonable quality....

If you are looking for a central basic hotel this would be on the list. I stayed one night and for me that was enough! To be fair the hotel was undergoing significant work outside to the rear. I was unable to open my window due to scaffolding. The air con was not installed, simply left in the room with...

I stayed one night here recently when enjoying a weekend in Oxford and would unreservedly recommend this as a base - it's on Broad Street so it is almost ideally situated to enjoy all the main attractions, restaurants, pubs, colleges, shops, market and all that this great city has to offer. They are all walk-able. Furthermore it is good value,...

The buttery cafe appears ok as you enter. Things go downhill after ordering afternoon teas. No teacakes because the kitchen closes at 3.30!! I ordered 4 teas, one cream tea and a cake. Teas were delivered without enough milk. No sugar and no serviettes even with the cream tea. The teapot lid fell into the cup as we poured. Not...

We stayed one night and wished we had been here our whole stay. We had the very top room--a double twin. We left the windows open so there was noise from the street, but we could have closed the windows and used the A/C. Breakfast was included and it was cooked to order plus pastries, juice, and coffee and tea....
