We took advantage of the Sunday night eat and get a discounted room deal and had a fantastic time. Parking: there isn't any at the hotel but there is an NCP really close in Garland St, easy to find, short walk £22 for 24 hours Reception: Met by Stephanie, really friendly, helpful and efficient. She made us feel welcome, a...

Stayed for one night to attend a local celebration. I was concerned that it might be a noisy night given its location right in the centre but the double glazing is very effective. Check in and out was easy but I was disappointed to discover a few days later that without notifying me a further charge of £35 approx for...

Have been using the lounge at Reading Mal for a couple of years now. Each time I am greeted and expertly served by Yvette. Cannot fault the service and am always looked after well. She remembers me and asks after my family. It's lovely to be treated like a valued customer and it's become a reliable place to meet colleagues...

Nice hotel, very tasty afternoon tea. The bar was very busy Saturday night which is good but it took a while to get a drink. I was a little disappointed with the toiletries in the room, as only a shampooconditioner in one bottle was offered. I would have expected a separate shampoo and conditioner and a body lotion but this...

We had left the organisation of our Christmas party to the 11th hour - and yet Imogen within the events team worked with us and manged to create a fantastic evening. The venue itself is very stylish, but with a warm, cosey vibe. The staff were incredibly attentive, and saw to every need - both before and during the event....

This is the 5th year running that we have met as a group of 10 to have a meal in the Brasserie and stayed in the hotel. The food is always very good and the staff work really hard to please. We ordered the £55 per couple steak platters which were great - when we commented that there weren't enough...

Great first impressions, but on closer look there was dust everywhere and dirty tiles. The toilet roll holder was falling out of the wall, and really not what was expected from a 4* "upgraded room". It has real potential as it is a beautiful building, but overall we found it really rough around the edges :-( and we were disappointed...

The location of this hotel is simply spectacular! I've been frequenting Reading for years for work from the US and this is usually one of my top 1-2 places to stay. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. This would normally be a 5 star on my scale BUT... The thing that really set this place back is one incident that I...

The first time I stayed here was in one of the One Bedroom suite's which was great, at the top of the hotel with a view. Food was nice and the hotel service was good. However, I returned 1 year later and stayed in the larger Executive Suite. At arrival the room looked great despite having no view (situated in...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The brief encounter, that fleeting glance from across the platform, a longing to be with the one you shouldn't...Meet me outside the station at this gloriously converted rail hotel. You shouldn't have this much fun so close to Heathrow, but you will at Mal. You shouldn't find a train set in your room, or a bath big enough for two, for that matter. ... more   less
