We booked a £150 family room and we were disappointed to find the room dirty and with clear evidence of the previous occupants. This included the toilet. This was more concerning considering Covid. I spoke to the manager who apologised and told us they would give it another wipe round. It was clear that they just didn’t understand our concerns regarding Covid. I told the owner that charging £150 for a dirty room was unacceptable. But they didn’t seem overly interested. The food was nice but we won’t be returning to The Unicorn covid or no covid.

My wife and I stayed one night. An opportunity to get away for one night. The hotel is a quirky little place just a short walk away from the town centre. The room was lovely, the floor boards squeaked, even I had to "duck or grouse" a few times. It was lovely. The room had a coffee machine, tv and a fire stick. We decided to have a meal there that evening and I am glad we did. I had a lovely steak and my wife had chicken. The starters were beautiful and the cheese board to finish finished us both off. We then relaxed in their boho style summer gazebo as the sunset. We could have been on that Greek island not Ludlow Shropshire. Breakfast was something else and as I sit writing this review I am still dreaming of the ludlow sausage. Ludlow is a stunning place and the Unicorn was fantastic. If you want a plasma tv and room service in a suite this is not for you. However if you value a clean, well run welcoming place with bags of charm then you will not be disappointed. Thank you Lee and the staff for making us feel so welcome.

Admittedly we came when b&b accommodation cannot be fully opened and I think the experience with all the restaurant open and more attentive care would be much better so it's a shame. The suite itself is self contained, hence why we could stay; however, the attention to detail and general attentiveness just wasn't there. No cooked breakfast of course- but a fruit corner each and some tesco pastries just doesn't cut it. There was no coffee either. So we ended up buying fruit salad, granola and coffee from aforementioned Tesco down the street! Now this would be fine if an airbnb with a small kitchen but of course there isn't. There needed to be more attention to detail. The bloke that let us in and dealt with us (not the owner) described it as a 'honeymoon suite'. But there were no glasses provided for drinking. My partner had to drink her wine out of a large coffee mug, then empty for water overnight, then use for tea and fresh orange in the morning! The bath is AMAZING, if difficult for a quick shower, however there are no bubble bath or essential oils provided. Seems to be missing a trick and not making use of such a unique feature. We stayed at another B&B with the same feature and had a host of bathing stuff to choose from. There was no soap at the sink to wash your hands. Again, little things that add up. I had to buy my own morning coffee! We texted a number that was outside the inn the next day and were told we would get glasses and soap right away but 2 hours later I went to get glasses myself after no action (no soap...) It might sound gripey, usually I hate reviews like this, but looking in the guest book it appeared some of these things had been mentioned by previous guests a year or two ago, which makes you wonder whether the hosts are listening to feedback. However, despite this, the little 'cottage' itself is a very unique little place in the most picturesque part of Ludlow and has many unique features that won't disappoint. The bath is ace and the bed soft and comfy. There is a little noise from the adjoining property at times but nothing major. After all, these are converted and very old dwellings in the old town. And a little ginger neighbourhood cat seemed to adopt us for the weekend and was a welcome visitor! There are radiators on timer and also a log burner for the colder winter nights (we needn't use it in May as heating was enough). Fresh towels were provided daily and we were left to our own devices, which is usually preferred but on this occasion a little too much! However, after a very strange year and in strange times, some things must be forgiven. Attention to detail would have got this place 5 stars and it is fairly decent value for money and in normal times with a cooked brekkie and more communication I'm sure is a blinding place!

Came here with family of 6 quite a while ago, 4 ordered fish and chips and 3 fish and chips came out with the 2 other meals...raised with the staff that 1 fish and chips were missing, the waitress looked panicked and said the 4th was coming...clearly they had forgotten the 4th fish and chips. Rather than admit the error and advise the remaining meal would take a little while...maybe offer a drink on the house for the wait... my meal was served five minuites later and slightly dubious I cut into the centre of the fish, steam came out so I thought fine I was wrong. Put the fish in my mouth and it wasn't just undercooked...it was raw...cold, gelatinous and raw...I raised with the waitress who asked if they could reheat it for me...it took a moment to explain that the food wasn't cold it was raw fish. The food went back to the kitchen and a quite upset member of kitchen staff stormed out. The chef then came out and offered to cook me something new but I explained that after a mouthfuls of raw fish my apitite was now non-existent. To top it off, when the bill came they had charged us for the uneaten, raw fish and chips!! We then had to explain why we didn't think we should have to pay for a meal that was inedible.... no apology, no compensation but a full bill...overall a pretty shocking experience. Will not be back...and if you have the fish and chips check they have actually seen a frier!

We loved everything about this place: the incredibly lovely owner and friendly staff; amazing food; fires in the bar and the bedroom; relaxed atmosphere; quirky, spacious, airy bedroom (we had what can only be described as the unicorn room!); quiet location; and amazing value for money. Staying there felt a real treat. We look forward to coming back!
