We like shrewsbury ,the people are genuinely friendly and there's lots to do .the Prince Rupert must be one of the oldest hotels in shrewsbury ,you arrive and are met by a valet parker who takes your car .book in with the cheerful staff and ,in our case the manager ,owner ,guided us to our room .this is where you...

While I appreciate this is an old hotel the bedroom furniture was very poor, and well overdue for updating. Standard double size bed is small by these days standards. Could see thick dust under wardrobe. No mini bar/fridge. Tea making facilities in room, but only 4 small pots of milk, so had to ask for more, and no sweetners. Small...

What a lovely place. Room was on the small side but we had a great roof terrace! All the staff were pleasant and helpful. The star of the show is definitely evening meal served by Charlie. She is an absolute gem, personalised unobtrusive service with a smile for everyone - the food was good too! We like ur so much...

We spent a very pleasant one night stay at the Prince Rupert Hotel having spent our wedding night exactly 30 years to the day at this hotel. Staff could not have made us more welcome. We were upgraded to the Princess Charlotte Suite which if memory serves me correct was the very room we spent our wedding night in. -...

We stayed at the Prince Rupert this weekend and had a slightly mixed, though admittedly mostly positive experience. The staff were warm and friendly and the hotel itself is in a fantastic location, full of historical charm and character. The en-suite in our standard double room was of an extremely high quality, with a full sized bath and all modern...

We felt very welcome at reception, and staff were courteous and available throughout. We were given an upgrade, and spent a happy and comfortable night , with a proper bath in the en-suite, and an Interesting view to the front of the hotel. Very good meal in Chambers next door, with attentive waiter and very good chef, Jamie. Thank you...

This hotel is a good central location and was very welcoming. We have a delicious meal in their Royalist Restaurant but it lacked atmosphere as it was empty and we would urged visitors to use it more as the food was really good and a wide choice of prices. The room was clean and comfortable and their lounge area was...

The Prince Rupert is a very good hotel. I was only booked in for one night but it was very enjoyable. Next time I am in Shrewsbury I will definitely stay there again. It is not an inexpensive hotel but in my opinion you get what you pay for so it was worth every penny.

6 of us stayed here for our recent wedding vows renewal service. The staff were amazingly helpful and so friendly. Our room was upgraded to suite with balcony, which we used on the Erving to have our own little party. The foods were comfortable and decorated lovely. The food was exceptional. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The historic grade II listed Prince Rupert Hotel is situated in the very heart of medieval Shrewsbury and just a short stroll from the individual shops and many tourist attractions. Surrounded by narrow cobblestone streets and black and white timbered buildings it provides the perfect base to explore beautiful Shrewsbury. A warm and friendly welcome is always provided to all guests with a glass of sherry on arrival. With the heritage of the hotel dating back to the 12th and 15th century, character and charm abound with sloping floors, exposed Tudor beams and a restored Jacobean staircase. Privately owned for many years by Michael & Diane Matthews, the hotel offers a great choice of dining all with a focus on fresh local produce. The Royalist is ideal for a special occasion with an a la carte menu together with a superb wine list. Chambers brasserie is renowned for its traditional British menu at sensible prices and located at the front of the hotel overlooking the gardens of St. Alkmunds square, Camellias Tea Rooms offers an extensive menu selection including traditional afternoon tea served on a three tier cake stand. A charming place to relax to the sound of a grand piano. Valet parking is provided to the hotel's private car park at a cost of £5 per night. ... more   less
