We had a 2 night stay in the Mansion House and the rooms (Beau Nash and William Pitt) are absolutely out of this world. All the staff are very welcoming and friendly, they are an asset to the hotel. The food was delicious and highly recommend the afternoon tea. Breakfast had been lovely on the friday morning served in the Cloisters but it was disappointing having to go to the new building for breakfast on the Saturday morning, a longish walk if you have mobility issues but understand it was probably due to the increased number of guests. If you are visiting Bath, would highly recommend the Bailbrook. We are regular visitors to their sister hotel L'Horizon in Jersey and the standard of service throughout the Handpicked Hotels chain is fantastic.

Despite not booking we were still able to walk in for a delicious afternoon tea in a beautifully relaxed atmosphere with a great team as well. Massive thank you to Jason for sorting us out with a cake box to take the leftovers home!

We stayed for one night as a complimentary free nights stay with bed dinner and breakfast in a feature room, after our wedding at the hotel didn't meet our expectations before the pandemic. This time we stayed in a similar feature room, the General James Wolfe, on our wedding stay we had the John Wood room. Both rooms are of similar size, tastefully decorated in country house classic colours with a large Queen size bed with plenty of pillows, wardrobes, black out curtains and blinds, coffee machine, large tv, chaise longue and large bathroom with a bath and shower perfectly sized for 2. The hotel is a grade II listed building and was originally a private residence in the early 1790s, the hotel is a great venue for weddings and hotel breaks. The grounds are nicely kept with outdoor tables where we enjoyed a glass of beer overlooking views of Bath. The Cloister's restaurant is tastefully decorated and the this is where the level of service is at it's best, our waiter, a new recruit to the hotel from their hotel in Reigate was so friendly, courteous and professional, the Restaurant Manager too was very attentive and courteous during our wedding stay in 2020, I understand he is leaving soon and we both wish him well. Overall I'd have no hesitation in recommending either a relaxing stay or a wedding at the hotel as the ceremony rooms are very quaint and tastefully decorated, the grounds and hotel front makes a very romantic setting. One word of advice just be sure to clarify what your package includes be it the wedding or stay, upon checking out we had items added to our final bill that were prepaid, also on leaving the hotel on both of our stays other guests were querying their final bills, thinking the dinner had been included etc. It was nice to see and stay at the hotel again, thanks to the former Manager Russell, the Cloisters Manager and the new waiter.

Frontage very plain, interior lacks warmth and style. General James Wolfe Suite in main building - no lift, two flights of stairs. No view of its 20 acre site - or anything else. Pictures above bedhead would’ve been better employed on the plain walls and replaced with something more colourful. Furnishings are described as 'masculine', ie. brown and dull. Bed large and comfortable. Nice bathroom with double handbasins, bath, shower and tv. Thoughtful touch of a small carton of plant milk in the room's fridge. Were delighted that 'Cloisters' restaurant has a vegan menu, the main reason we chose the Hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our starters. Main courses were nice. But when bread came it was with what looked like a triangle of butter, and a soft spread which we assumed was vegan. On querying this with the more senior staff member who had seated us, we were told that both were butter. When we expressed surprise that, being vegan, we should have been served this, the reply was a jokey and dismissive comment that we had drunk the wine, which was “probably not vegan”, so what was the harm in a little butter! When a restaurant goes to the trouble of serving a good vegan menu, it should take care to label its wine appropriately and ensure that staff are properly trained and not treating vegan guests as a joke. Thankfully, the waiter at breakfast was welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was fine, with vegan spread provided on request. Needless to say, we won't be returning

Dear Bluesky91 Thank you for your custom and also for your review on the General James Wolf. I can see from your comments that our normal high standards faltered in certain areas during your stay with us and I am very sorry for the impact that this would have had on the enjoyment of your stay. Rest assured I will be taking your comments up with the restaurant team Certainly we strive to ensure that we surpass our guest expectations, so please accept my apologies that we fell short on this particular occasion. ]Best wishes
