Very efficient friendly staff, delightful hotel & excellent position in the town. Rooms comfortable & currently some refurbishment underway in rooms so those completed are very good. Staff very helpful & restaurant food exceptionally good .Located in town centre with recommendation to reserve a parking space as limited availability.

A short stay at the White Hart,,attracted by an offer for a 5 course tasting menu, overnight stay and breakfast. The food presentation and taste was excellent. A slight shortfall on administration, not recording our choice of a superior room. Minor shortcomings in the room with no shaver point, short fixed lead for the hair-dryer and a bedside light with... Friendly, helpful staff. Hotel situated in the town centre of Wells. Wonderful tasting menu very filling and a very good breakfast. Our en suite room was in the courtyard - access via flight of steps. Comfortable warm room, v. comfy bed. Superb bathroom fragrances. Small cosy lounge for guests' use. Car parking at the hotel can be difficult. Can park... More

Overall we were impressed with our stay - the bedroom was warm, comfortable and relaxing; the five course tasting menu was excellent (and we wish we lived closer to partake more often); breakfast was the only concern, whilst the food was good, the service was slow and staff were forgetful-we had to repeat requests. Another concern was the difficulty with... More

My wife and I stayed here on a Travelzoo deal, which included a 5 course taster menu, accommodation and breakfast. The food, its inventiveness, presentation, quality and quantity, was excellent ! Lovely, very large double bed in our bedroom. The hotel is being extensively and expensively refurbished to a high standard. It will be interesting to return in a couple of... More

Just got back from a night's stay at the White Hart hotel which has been under new management since September. We had three rooms as a family and they were all charming - small and traditionally decorated, immaculately clean, free wifi and Neal's Yard toiletries. We came down for the Hot Fuzz tour but will be returning for the White... More

I had one of the rooms in the yard, out the back of the main building, up a metal staircase and along a balcony. I wasn't terribly impressed. I understand that the hotel is still being refurbished, and perhaps this explains the mould around the bath, the screeching noise from the bathroom fan, and the lack of accessable plug sockets... This Hotel is being refurbished to a high standard. Our en-suite room was warm, clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful and attentive. We parked easily at the Hotel but it will be a challenge when busy. The Hotel is situated opposite the ancient stone arch leading onto the green opposite Wells Cathedral. The Hotel restaurant was closed the... More

We had an overnight break here on our way to Exeter to watch rugby. The hotel is in a fabulous location just a stones throw from the stunning cathedral. We were warmly greeted and shown to our room which was across the courtyard. Room was clean, bed comfy but it was very cold initially. This was resolved by someone sorting... More

tried to book for 7.30pm for 4 persons, but was asked to come later as they were busy at that time. Which is absolutely fine. Arrived at 7.45pm to find just 2 tables occupied with a total of 5 persons. The Lemonade was 'off', the wine was only available by the bottle. The Pork was good, the chicken was not... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Recently taken over by new owners (September 2015) the 15th century White Hart Hotel is situated in the city centre just 10 short steps from the famous Cathedral. Its 15 en suite bedrooms make the perfect base from which to explore Wells and the surrounding area. The restaurant serves locally sourced British food cooked by Head Chef Matthew Briddon (River Café). Wells is a medieval city nestling on the southern side of the Mendip Hills with the mystic Somerset Levels stretching away to the south and west. The history of Wells goes right back to Roman times when it was known that there was a settlement, probably because of the springs that bubble up here. Wells gets its name from these springs which can today be found in the gardens of the Bishop's Palace. Bristol, Bath, Glastonbury, Glastonbury Tor, Cheddar, Clarks Village, Wells Golf Club and Longleat are all close by. ... more   less
