Had a really enjoyable 3 night stay at the Fox. Good location, ample parking and just over the road from the beautiful Abbey Gardens and 5-10 minutes walk from restaurants and shops, but despite this there was very little traffic or other noise. Stayed in room 6, a superior room, which was absolutely wonderful. The room is huge, a super king bed, a large bath in the bedroom and a large rainfall shower in the well appointed bathroom. Although like all other hotels and restaurants they are currently suffering from staff shortages that did not affect the friendless and helpfulness of the staff, nor the quality of the food at breakfast or dinner. Would definitely stay again and recommend.

We stayed in room number 2 which was very large, bright and airy and had everything you would want for a short break. Very comfortable bed, settee in the room so you don't have to sit on your bed, enough storage space and hangers in the wardrobe. Whilst the room was not overly hot, it was good that it had an air conditioning unit which we used regardless. The bathroom is also big with both a bath and a stand alone shower cubicle. Breakfast in the pub was first class too, very fresh and with premium ingredients. The only negative was the wifi wasn't great and I like Sky Sports but to be honest, for a two night break these are not needed and not a big enough negative to mark the scored down one bit. I would say that room 2 has room 6 above and could get noisy, but we did not face any issues with this. Perfect break, we will be back for sure!!!

We took advantage of the government “eat out to help out scheme” tonight.
The food was delicious, I can highly recommend the Feta and Butternut Squash Tart with Roasted Beetroot.
The staff are all very aware of social distancing and safety rules, wearing face visors and regularly sanitising hands and tables. We were served by Izzy, who was polite and attentive, it was also nice to see several tables busy, giving a nice buzz to the evening. We will definitely be back.

We spent last night at The Fox. The whole place is sadly in need of a refurb, the photos on the website are presumably quite old and our room was quite the disappointment for the price Greene King wanted for it. Little things like a lick of paint, decent quality toilet roll, better pillows and mini bottles of toiletries would make such a difference.
The staff at this establishment couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful. For them alone, we would recommend The Fox but admittedly we won’t return until the place has been revamped.
The location is good and is a short walk from the centre of the town.

Stayed for our 15th wedding anniversary in superior room 6.Absolutely stunning room with period features, lovely looking four poster bed, huge bath, double shower, twin sinks, lovely leather sofa, huge room with private stairwell, air conditioning. And very clean.
Bad points unfortunately was an extremely firm bed an we didn't sleep well attall, thankfully a big bath to soak your joints after sleeping in the bed. Really thin curtains which let all the light in early, air con is directed over the bed so if you want it on in the room you get cold in bed. No pillow protectors. Only 1 bath towel per person, I need a bath towel, hand towel and hair towel. As it's superior and how much it cost I would expect other extras like a mini fridge, coffee machine and bath robes or the breakfast included which we didn't realise it wasn't till we arrived. Food in pub next door is average, nothing special. Sorry we won't be returning as you get better value elsewhere and the bed was too hard. When I dropped key back in the morning I mentioned about the lack of sleep and hard bed but no one seemed bothered.

The location is central in Bury St Edmunds so ideal for a weekend stay there, which is what we wanted. There are many good restaurants a short walk away. The room in an outside barn was comfortable with some different touches. I did find a few random hairs around the bathroom so it wasn't as clean as it should have been. The bed was very comfortable. The final positive about the Fox was the staff, who were all friendly and very helpful.
Unfortunately the breakfast is dire. We had to wait ages the first morning and when my eggs benedict arrived it was clear why, as the 'chef' had clearly wanted to give the poached egg an extra 20 minutes to ensure it was almost tough. I cannot describe the bearnaise sauce except that the cat lying on the floor looked guilty. My partner's vegetarian breakfast was passable. The following morning I opted for the just about edible english fry up.
We enjoyed the town, excellent restaurants and pretty village nearby but unfortunately the worst possible eggs benedict will live long in the memory!

We stayed at The Fox last night for the first time. It was easy to find and had plenty of free parking spaces. We went into the main pub area, which was full of people and had a lovely atmosphere, to get checked in. Staff were friendly and welcoming. You go back outside to get to the room which was beautiful - modern, clean and spacious. We went into town for dinner but there was a voucher in the room for a discount off of food if you wanted to eat in the pub. Breakfast this morning was lovely - plenty to eat and drinks are unlimited. Thank you for a lovely stay!

This was a great place to stay just on the outskirts of Bury st Edmonds. We arrived a little early to check in but the staff were very helpful and cheery and checked if our room was ready. Lucky for us it was, the room was situated in a converted barn in the car park which is situated at the back of the hotel. The room was large and comfortable with a great bathroom as it had a separate bath and shower.
Serving at the bar was good with a great selection of drinks available. The food menu caters for everyone from meat lovers to vegan.
The only two negative things were that the toilets in the bar were dirty and the tables in the bar were tacky to the touch.
Overall a good place to stay

I visited the Fox with a group of former work colleagues for a spot of lunch and a nice get together.
We were asked to pre book our food selections, which enabled the kitchen to organise what turned out to be a very busy lunchtime.
Whilst we had a bit of a wait, mainly because we appear to have missed our slot whilst awaiting final guest to arrive, the food when served seemed to be enjoyed by all.
It also gave us time to have a catch up before we ate.
Taking into consideration that the meals were extremely good value, I feel the Fox was a good choice for us.
The attention and attitude of the staff was extremely good, especially when they were so busy.

Came here for a meal with our whole family, I ordered the sirloin steak, the steak was absolutely awful, you could tell the meat had been frozen it tasted like an old boot. My father in law had lasagna and couldn’t even eat it because it was so horrible. I honestly expected nice fresh food for such an expensive menu. Was highly disappointed

I believe the superior room is much bigger.(we stayed in a standard room). Take your own toiletries as there isn't anything much supplied. Don't know about any extras in the superior room but I would guess there aren't any. Lovely hosts though and it's very quiet considering it's a pub.

How close is the car park to The Fox Inn
Answer from gillianward66

There is a car park owned by the fox right next door to the pub but it is often full. If you drive past the fox and turn right the road takes you to ram meadow car park. It's pay and display but a very reasonable cost and there is a gate which leads you directly into the fox car park.
