Across the street from a 1,000 year old Abbey, we were easy walking distance to a number of incredible buildings and churches. The hotels high tea was a treat to experience for this visiting American, and having an evening brandy in the bar under the hotel was just a good story "for the grandkids" (it was built as a vault...

Visited by my wife and me on 20/01/17. The seating in the lounge was very comfortable and spacious. We each received 5 different savouries, some were very tasty, the others less so. We then had a large fruit scone with clotted cream and jam each, which were very tasty. My wife was particularly impressed with these and she bakes her...

We booked this overnight stay a few days before as we were travelling from Shropshire to Kent after work on a Friday night. We didn't get there until 8:30pm or so but had a lovely warm welcome from the receptionist and were delighted by the spacious, clean and well decorated room (bathroom was a little bit "tired" but still very...

The visit to Bury St Edmunds was quite short notice but I was provided with a nice room on the front looking out towards the cathedral. Being on the front does have some traffic issues, especially early in the morning but that is to be expected. The room was large by modern standards but starting to look a little tired,...

Great hotel. The staff were without exception friendly and welcoming, loved the restaurant and Wingspan bar. We stayed in an Impressions room which was clean, cosy and very warm, gorgeous bathroom too! Really enjoyed the eclectic mix of furnishing around the hotel.

Stayed at the Angel Hotel for 3 nights. Lovely big room with French doors in a bay. Windows opened which I always look for. Bathroom good but only complaint would be that the shower curtain did not reach the bath therefore the bathroom floor always got wet. Provided with water every day which was good. Had the Continental breakfast which...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This Georgian ivy clad 4 star boutique hotel and restaurant in Suffolk surprises with a twist of urban chic. Our Suffolk hotel is right in the heart of Bury St Edmunds town centre and everything is just a step from here. Explore winding, cobbled, shop filled streets and a plethora of ancient architecture on the doorstep. Once inside, The Angel Hotel is a curious contrast of comfy contemporary design with touches of exotic grandeur. Warm leather sofas vie for your company in the lounge, which is filled with curiosities, pop art, eccentric oddities and cool vintage furniture. It is a hotel of many different aspects all artfully blended together into an exciting package and the bedrooms are no exception. The Angel Eaterie has a great reputation and dining here is a culinary treat. Take the steps down into the decadently curious Wingspan Cocktail Bar & Lounge located in the 12th Century vaults under the Hotel. Wingspan is the perfect location to meet with friends, for pre-dinner drinks, or simply to relax after a long day. ... more   less
