Our second visit to this hotel/pub. Tucked away but minutes from the town, a warm welcome which included swapping our 3rd floor room for one on the ground floor which helped with our luggage and folding bikes. We dined here (the vegetarian platter was huge, and defeated us) in the enclosed courtyard, and enjoyed breakfast with great choices. The best thing about the place is the staff who were cheerful despite being reduced in numbers by the “pingdemic”.
Greene King, please spend a little money on mending details like the toilet roll holder and the towel rail in this otherwise delightful, clean and comfortable B&B: loose fittings let this gem down.

You can tell a pub that keeps decent beer when you walk in to find a group of workers from the neaerby brewery having Sunday dinner. Indeed, the beers were superb and the pub grub (in this case Korean chicken burgers) were delicious, prompty served, despite a busy bar, and piping hot as were the accompanying chips, all good value too. Add friendly service and clean well kept toilets and you have the perfect example of a successful hostelry. I can offer no better recommendation than wishing it were our local.

We had a three night stay at this pub , the welcome was very friendly and the room we were given was a very roomy and clean , it had a good sized shower and a king sized bed. The pub is in a great location and has on site parking this makes a visit to Bury very easy .
All the staff are excellent and we had a great stay , the rooms are in an attatched annex this means no noise from the pub . If you are planning a trip to Bury St Edmunds I would reccomend this place to stay .

Lovely stay at The Dog Partridge.
The room was fantastic and beautifully decorated.
Room facilities were excellent with everything we needed for a comfortable stay:-
Comfortable bed and pillows
Iron and Ironing Board
Fan
Hairdryer
Fridge
Kettle and Coffee Machine with good selection of hot drinks.
Large TV.
We also received 20% off voucher for food and 2 complimentary ales which was a nice touch!
We booked a feature room (Room 6) which included a free standing bath in the bedroom area. The bath was so deep and it was lovely to have a nice relaxing soak after a busy day in Bury.
The pub itself is very pretty with a lovely garden and the food was very good. It is also very well located for the Cathedral, Abbey Garden and the town centre. It's also next door to the Brewery!
The only downside to our stay was the fact the manager was quite abrupt and did seem not very welcoming. When we checked out we asked a member of staff if we were able to leave our car in the car park until we departed at 2pm. We were advised this was ok but seemingly it was not! We felt a little uncomfortable being asked to identify the said member of staff and then to see that she was being reprimanded in the bar area. We were not really welcomed when we arrived and not asked it we had a good stay when leaving which I think is an important courtesy.
That said I would definitely recommend staying here and would stay again.

We spent an evening in bar, which was busy, but was understaffed. When we booked in there was only one person to book us in and serve all drinks and food to the busy pub. Our room was a good size, with tele, tea & coffee etc. Bed was very comfortable, we both like a firm bed. Rooms separate from bar so there was no noise, except from the street, but Bury is a quiet town generally.
It was reasonable value, as location is good for seeing the town and there is parking at the back of the hotel, which is a benefit in central Bury St Edmunds.

We had a lovely time staying at the Dog and Partridge. Our room was on the top floor, it was spacious and clean, including a good sized bed which was very comfortable! In our room was a separate chair and table and a dressing table too. Tea and coffee making facilities were available and refreshed regularly. The shower was huge and an absolute joy, although did get a little slippery so something to be careful of - bath and shower mats were available from reception. The toilet seat and toilet roll holder were a little wobbly, they could have done with tightening up. Overall the room was refreshing and had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. We had breakfast here too, although the gas was off on the first morning which didn't leave much choice for breakfast however, the staff handled this very well and a discount was offered. Food was available later that day, obviously we had to sample some, needless to say we weren't disappointed! I would highly recommend the mac and cheese with added bacon! Overall this was a very enjoyable stay, the room and hotel as a whole was very clean and welcoming. Staff were friendly and more than happy to help - special shout out to Josh, his accent was amazing, he was very friendly and helpful and all round a very good waiter! Would recommend staying at this hotel.

So, we stayed here after a family wedding as was close to the venue. Upon seeing that check in was 2pm we were a little worried as needed to drop things off at 12.30 before wedding as would not be back until late. Staff were really accommodating and allowed us to get the key at 12, to enable us to have access upon return late night. We can only review the room not the venue by evening just the next morning, as obviously we spent very little time in the room. We Woke up, and made our way down for breakfast the next morning, although unfortunately my partner left my over night bag in my car at the wedding venue so I had no choice but to go down to breakfast wearing my bridesmaid dress from the previous night. I was expecting some form of judgment, as this of course looks dubious, but was actually greeted by such warm friendly staff applauding my outfit, which was actually so lovely. At breakfast I ordered a coffee then vegan breakfast. The fantastic waitress serving me was so accommodating, without asking she automatically brought me a dairy free milk alternative for my coffee and complimented my attire once more, which was lovely . Had a lovely stay and would return to this venue again.

Visited when staying at the Premier Inn recently as 2 minutes walk from the hotel and recommended to us. Drinks in the afternoon were great as staff were on the ball. As the restaurant in the hotel was dreadful we booked here for an evening meal and asked for a specific table. When we arrived in the evening we said we'd booked and were told that the table we requested had someone sitting at it, despite the pub being empty apart from the people sitting at our table! Anyway we sat somewhere else and ordered our food. I had scampi and asked for rosemary salted fries and hubby had half a chicken with salad and chips. My scampi was tasteless and the fries were not rosemary salted as I'd asked. When I checked with the waitress I was told they were - they definitely were not! Hubby's chicken was dry. The pub is soulless with no atmosphere but I suspect could be covid related. If we were visiting the town again we would probably visit during the afternoon for drinks, but would avoid having a meal as the food was so dreadful.

After staying here for 1 night on a bed and breakfast stay in November 2021 .We was very impressed with the Breakfast. It was lovely on taste and presentation so we thought we would return when in bury st edmunds again for a evening meal.
How wrong we were to do that.
Joined by my sister and brother in law we have never had so much rubbish put in front of us at anytime of eating out.
Our table was booked in advance and it was changed from 2 people to 4 people over the phone which we was told they could accommodate. The table we was allocated was in the bar.no problem with that at all but when I go out for a meal I do not expect to sit on a stool that doesn't even have the height to come up to your knees.
When ordering food .we was having steak. No we wasn't they had ran out on a Saturday at 8pm. Triple cooked chips no as well. It was no we have ran out of that to quite a few things. We ended up with scampi and thin chips and peas.
The presentation and food quality was rubbish and will not return to this place for food again.
Want a lager for around £3.50 forget it .no carlsbad no fosters no carling just your over priced beers.
On returning here after our great breakfast it just shows how wrong you can get it sometimes.
Their website really tells a differant story to what we saw on this rubbish and waste of time night.
It was great to spend some time with my sister but I should of booked somewhere else.

Never again
