We've just had a weekend stay at this hotel. Check in was welcoming and friendly and we were shown to our room as the nature of this historic building means it's a bit of s maze with very low beams. Our room was well maintained but the bathroom was cramped. We ate dinner in the restaurant which I've reviewed separately...

A very charming property in an equally beautiful old world village boasting fantastic medieval architecture. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with fens, seascapes and thatched cottages. This hotel has many facilities including a modern up to date and attractive spa with spa bath but no pool. There are lovely public lounges, two restaurants and in the summer some food is...

The Swan was originally built as one of the medieval guild halls in Lavenham. It is one of the great oak-framed buildings of England. More than five centuries have seen many uses for this wonderful building including being a favourite pub for RAF, RCAF and USAAF airmen in WW2. Many of them signed the walls and now visitors come from...

Went for a birthday massage in mid April whilst 16 weeks pregnant. My first pregnancy massage so was a little apprehensive it wouldn't be as relaxing as usual, but I was so wrong - I don't think I've ever been that relaxed. Can only be described as the best spa I've ever been to and the best massage I've ever...

We stayed at the Swan for two nights mid-week in early February as a treat for my husband's birthday. It's an absolutely lovely hotel, charming and comfortable and the breakfast is delicious. The rooms are spacious and very clean, and log fires were lit throughout the lounge and bar areas, making it the perfect place to sit and enjoy a...

We stayed for one night as a couple. The hotel, like Lavenham itself, is straight out of a postcard - beautiful, full of character and so comfortable. It is well situated within easy walking distance of the local shops, bars and restaurants. The only reason I didn't rate the hotel as 'excellent' is that there was quite a bit of...

The hotel has an undeniable history dating back centuries, and is a fascinating property. The Airman's Bar has WWII memorabilia on display. The restaurant is an oak beamed reconstruction to fit in with the hotel's age and ambience. The Gallery restaurant food was somewhat disappointing, certainly not a "fine dining" experience. Being able clearly to hear the Chef in the...

Good hotel with fabulous restaurant and bar, nothing more to say. A little tired in some of the upstairs hallways and needs decorating, hence 4 stars and not 5 . Otherwise well appointed with excellent staff and service.

I visited this hotel with girlfriends for a short break, we had afternoon tea - but were not offered any champagne to accompany the tea. The service at tea, breakfast and dinner was slow, including a cup of tea in the lounge area - which must have taken over 20 minutes to arrive. We used the spa for treatments, but...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestling in the Suffolk countryside, between Bury St. Edmunds and Sudbury, is The Swan Hotel & Spa in Lavenham, perhaps one of England's most iconic hotels. The Swan dates back to the 15th century when it played a key role in Lavenham's wool trade. Today it is a quintessential English country hotel and restaurant, proud of its achievement of AA 4 Red star, two AA Rosettes & Visit England Large Hotel of the Year 2013. Ancient oak beams and inglenook fireplaces blend beautifully with rich furnishings and fabrics to create the perfect ambiance for rest and relaxation. The historic old bar boasts a wonderful collection of memorabilia, including a wall signed by British and American airmen stationed at Lavenham Airfield during World War II. The Swan is a wonderful place in which to celebrate a variety of special occasions, including romantic weddings, christenings and family get-togethers. It is also a unique venue for seminars, meetings and conferences, where 15th century inspiration combines with 21st century innovation. ... more   less
