Stayed here last week & it was very pleasant. They have taken Covid 19 precautions very seriously here. Everything is squeaky clean, sanitiser readily available & staff all wearing visors. Table service only, strictly no leaning on the bar.
The room itself was spacious, comfortable & spotlessly clean. Breakfast in the room was disappointing. If they don`t want to do a full English Breakfast it would be better not to bother & reduce the room rate.
Dinner in the restaurant was however excellent, although booking as 6 people from 3 households we had to have a table for 4 & a table next door for 2. This is of course strictly correct but very rare in these difficult times. Unfortunately Covid 19 precautions have stripped the heart out of The Crown Hotel. Let`s hope we all get back to normal soon!

Staff very friendly, room very clean and shower was great, lots of hot water. Breakfast was made with love and care. Toast was hot and nicely wrapped up. There was so much food we couldn't finish it all and was delivered to the room with the coffee also piping hot. The floors are creaky but that is not an issue really as it is an old hotel with a lot of character. Parking inside the grounds is limited to three cars so I would advise you to park your car somewhere in the front of the hotel or across the road.

Disliked · The bed was not awful but it was not great. It had a bit of a dip on either side but I my husband seemed to find it fine so maybe I am just used to our super hard bed at home and found the mattress a bit too soft. There was no full length mirror but also not a big deal as we only stayed for one night.

The Crown is very well located. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and I the restaurant served dinner until 9.30pm which was great as I arrived quite later. However I found the bed very uncomfortable and didn't sleep at all well on it. It was just a mattress on a solid base and the mattress I would imagine was quite basic. Soundproofing for my room at least wasn't great and I was woken at 7.30am by room service not knocking on my door but on the room down the corridor (although it sounded loud enough to be on mine!)
The only option for breakfast currently is continental breakfast served in the room. Totally understand that Covid is creating some service limitations from the norm but the restaurant is quite large and was fully functional for dinner the previous evening and I would have thought it would be fairly easy to stagger guests' breakfast times so that these did not exceed the available seating (which was fully socially distant). If room service was the only option a cooked breakfast could have been offered.

Great atmosphere, balanced and interesting menu, excellent value and attentive, personable staff. The food was delicious, well cooked and presented superbly.
So good to be able to feel safe and secure during these challenging times. Staff all wearing visors, tables rigorously cleaned between patrons, sanitiser available and toilets spotless and Covid secure.

Reading previous reviews I am beginning to wonder whether this was actually the same Crown Hotel we have just stayed in for the last three nights. Entering the hotel through the Residents’ entrance the first thing we noticed was the stale smell of cigarette smoke. As smoking has been banned in pubs etc for quite a few years I can only assume it is the residue of years of smoking on the premises and it was not very inviting. We were given Room number 2 which was accessed by a flight of open tread stairs which ended with a pair of fire doors at the top which had to be pushed open before you could step onto the landing. Not an easy feat as fire doors are heavy and you are standing on the top step and in our case both holding suitcases. In reverse if you wanted to go downstairs you have to pull the doors and literally step down onto the top tread of the staircase. I really feel this is a Health and Safety issue and wonder if anyone has fallen while trying to carry out this rather tricky manoeuvre. The room was not very large and could certainly do with decorating. It looked bleak and certainly not like the room shown in the picture. There was one hard backed dining room type chair and a stool. Bedding was clean but the curtains appeared old and dated. The bathroom was clean but the toilet faced the shower cubicle and their was not enough space between the two to allow you to sit facing forward on the toilet. You had to sit sideways and this is probably what has caused the toilet seat to come loose. Our room was also noisy as we were at the front of the building and we were woken before 7am by the traffic on the road outside. We stayed three nights and our towels were not changed once. The only saving grace was our breakfasts that were cooked perfectly and served by a lovely lady in the restaurant. On the strength of this we booked dinner one night which was a real disappointment with my husband being given lukewarm new potatoes and rather old French beans. My roast chicken breast with linguine was quite tasteless and bland., Our pate starters with chutney were very ordinary and the chutney tasted more like Branson Pickle. To cap it all WiFi was not available in our room and we could only log on if we sat downstairs at the back of the pub. We certainly would not stay there again.

We stayed here whilst attending a family wedding at a nearby hotel. Location was very good
Room was comfortable roomy and clean. My only comment concerning the room would be that the towels provided were small and very worn but they were clean and changed daily
The staff were welcoming and the food especially the breakfast was of a high standard I had family staying at a nearby hotel and their experience was very different and we were glad that we chose this hotel If I was in the area again I would certainly stay here

Booked for one night only and given a room in an annex to the pub/hotel, was completely satisfied with the room (15), the location, the comfort, the multi channel tv etc. The bathroom was a bit small and the toilet seat fitted was too small for the toilet, but apart from that, it was fine. Long Melford in one lone street with plenty of antique shops, several pubs and restaurants, and really quite quaint. This hotel/pub/restaurant serves really good food too but best to book.

The manager and Bar staff were lovely and offered good customer service. The hotel is very clean and quite modern inside. The menu is very basic, but does the job. I had a single room, It was very clean (although very basic) and the ensuite was sparkling and modern. The shower looked new, it was electric, very simple to use and got to a very good temperature very quickly. I had the full English which was very nice. Overall a nice place, losing 1 star for the basic menu. (The beer was very good)

Less than 1 if I could for food, burger bun was stale, burger was dryer than ghandis flip flop amd black both sides, chips were hollow inside, battered fish was soggy, maybe they had an ‘off’ night, returned the food, manager looked frustrated and not very apologetic so I assume this is a regular thing?

Beer was nice and the two waitresses were lovely.

Manager was far too overworked in my opinion.

Sorry but I have never returned food in my life.

We stayed for two nights in early September, in the main hotel, in a room on the first floor overlooking the courtyard. The room and bathroom were very small but very clean and modern, the bathroom with fittings which all actually worked. We find this quite unusual in old buildings! The food was very good, with huge portions, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only downside was poor WiFi reception.

We are unlikely to visit Suffolk again in the near future, but if we did we would certainly choose The Crown again, but perhaps stay in one of the ground floor rooms in the adjacent building, which seemed rather larger, and we didn't have to negotiate the rather steep stairs. Whether the WiFi would be better there or not I have no idea!
