Arrival went smoothly with a friendly welcome and the great news of an upgrade for us which went down very well! The deal we had booked was explained clearly which made for a relaxing time. The room was in actuality a suite following the upgrade and it was tastefully decorated and warm despite the weather outside. The restaurant was really...

I stayed here with my Mother (88) for three nights and we were extremely well looked-after, from our arrival to our departure. From altering the room my aged parent was staying in as it was top floor, to supplying her with a duvet, nothing was too much trouble and all carried out with stellar customer service. Nikki has to be...

Lovely welcome at the Black Lion Hotel with us able to access the room early. Room attractively decorated and named after a wine as were all the rooms. Each room is individual and furnished with good quality antiques. Our four poster bed was a good size but needs attention to the noise made by the frame when you get in...

We had dinner here as were in the area and I had had a nice lunch a couple of years ago. The dining room really does need a bit of a face lift and the table mats need replacing. There is shabby chic and there is shabby. The menu sounds very edgy and modern but it really doesn't deliver. The...

We have visited this hotel before for lunch and the food has been very good. The building is old and quaint and slightly shabby in places. On this occasion we stayed one night as we were attending a function at a nearby restaurant. Our expectations were quite low so we were not too disappointed but there were several things in...

Such attentive and friendly staff together with excellent food made our short break a real treat. The only down side was the hotel could do with a bit of a refresh. Still worth a visit though because of the incredible staff ( Roberto and Nikki), delicious food and excellent value.

Nice welcome from the Manager (Varinder) who showed us to our room. Large room (Yquem) with 4 poster bed, nice bathroom, loved the shower. Outside sash window could do with replacing and the windows cleaned. Bed rattled one side whenever you moved or got out of bed which was a bit disconcerting. Our deal included breakfast and dinner and the...

We've stayed at the Black Lion a number of times before and were looking forward to a return visit. Yes, there was a lived-in shabbiness to our room (Chablis) but for us that was part of the charm. The room was spotlessly clean and the bathroom excellent. It was also one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in....

My partner and I chose the black lion hotel for a couple of nights break and was very pleased with the hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The featured room we had was very spacious with beautifully decorated features wich included a lovely 4 poster bed. The bathroom was just as pretty with every thing you need. We...

We chose the Black Lion for a one night b&b because they were 'doggy friendly'. On arrival we were disappointed to find it was really very shabby. Even the stair carpet was threadbear in places. The room (The Chablis) was very dusty with threadbear hessian carpeting, ripped sofa, rickety furniture with an overall air of tiredness. The bathroom was functional...
