Few hotels can boast a more enviable city centre postcode than the Vermont Hotel, for this imposing structure is located in the heart of the City of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, not only next to the Castle Keep and opposite the historic Moot Hall, but also just two minutes from Newcastle's Central Station. Combining old character in the form of 1930s grandeur with contemporary elegance and four-star luxury, the landmark building is your base from which to discover the many bars, shops and attractions of the town centre and wider area. Look outside your window and you might see such sights as the River Tyne, Millennium Bridge or stunning cathedral, and it's not the only mark of the sheer inspiration of the Vermont Hotel experience. That's because the reasons for the hotel's reputation become clear with a stay in any one of its sophisticated bedrooms, which are finished in soft relaxing colours while also coming with a wealth of facilities for your pleasure and comfort, including - among others - private en-suite bathrooms, a mini bar and free Internet access.

The Vermont Hotel enjoys a highly regarded location, beloved by guests for its proximity to local attractions and conveniences. While the hotel's amenities and charming atmosphere receive compliments, the service quality has received mixed reviews, with both praise for staff attentiveness and criticism over customer care issues. We stayed at the Vermont for just one night recently as part of a weekend break in Newcastle. The room rate was reasonable and the location perfect for our planned evening meal on the Quayside which is accessible from the hotel lift ( very handy wintery days ).
We arrived about1pm and managed to get a complimentary parking space just in front of the hotel. So convenient.

The concierge and check in staff were friendly and efficient. Our room was ready early.

The room was on floor 11 facing south. What a great view. It was spacious, traditional but with all you needed. The bathroom was pretty good - although the taps seemed to have an airlock that made it a bit splashy. Just a note that the east coast mainline runs to the north side the hotel so south facing is best.

Breakfast was decent. Not the biggest choice but well cooked (hot buffet) and a lovely room.

Overall, exceeded my expectations and very easily walkable to shopping and quayside. If I had a criticism it’s just that the lifts were slow and a bit temperamental. Otherwise, top marks.

Stayed here as my usual haunt was full, i needed somewhere close to station , and where i could hold a couple of meeting prior to my afternoon appointment.

Was a little perplexed finding reception , as it with the location referred to as a bar (can’t remember the name ),

Also ground level is on floor six ,

Cant fault the staff , bar was welcoming Anne very comfortable with plenty of leather chesterfields , and chairs.

Basic bar menu served till 9pm which was fine, room service menu was also available 247 ,

Room was spacious , with a couple of places you could work from ,

Bed was comfortable, (mecure take note ) , and was able to get room temperature to be comfortable, rather than the normal boil you alive settings.

Complementary Tea /coffee and packet of biscuits , with large range of snack and chocolate in the. Mini bar

Bathroom was great good water pressure and plenty of hot water

breakfast was good, with option for poached eggs warmly received , plenty of fresh fruit alos , only minor criticism healthy cereal. Was weetabix. However most people just load up on the cooked options ,

Certainly will come again , and if for leasure will check out roof bar !!!

Truly amazing, memorable celebration stay with wine & dine package with family and friends over 15 rooms. No-one could believe the great price when booking and once there couldn't believe the attentive staff parking their cars made them feel so special, we had few hours in the Redwood bar chatting to everyone who came either for drinks or those who were staying. The managers encouraged us to move sofas and chairs into how we wanted them so people not left out. They had the lamps on for lovely atmosphere and bar staff were great. We ordered prosecco in ice buckets with plenty glasses to save keep re ordering from bar. After getting room keys around 2pm we took our bags from luggage room dropped them In rooms and returned to Redwood bar til everyone arrived. We all then headed along quayside to check out the small market and fabulous views of our river as we live in this city but everyone loves the quayside. Our evening meal was booked at a time that suited us in the beautiful Maven restaurant in the hotel and again no-one could believe the amazing service we got from being served our starters, I chose onion bhajis but the prawn cocktail went down a storm. A glass of wine was included for everyone and the fabulous main meals were so delicious, we nearly all had the feathered beef dinner. We chose the Quay view rooms as are quieter outside for approx £10each more as being so close to rail station from a lot of rooms you can hear trains ticking along in/out. Rooms lovely, shower lovely, pillows lovely, breakfast lovely again with helpful staff and manager. We all will definitely do stay wine and dine again some already have!
We also love Sunday lunches there and there this Sunday too for Father's Day as the Vermont has it all. !!
Location, ambience, staff, pricing. Reservation staff so good too with email replies and information. THANK YOU VERMONT from Sherin Belshaw and her family and friends.

It's a hotel trading on past glories. Looks lovely from the outside. A stately hotel with a brand new Rolls Royce outside. Once inside, the downstairs is well fitted out, the bars and restaurants inkeeping with a quiet, comfortable place to have a drink. So what's the problem? Simply put, i's badly managed. Breakfast was an all you can eat scramble, instead of table service you'd expect. The room was incredibly warm, too hot at 3am, with no chance to turn down air conditioning. There was a fan on the desk, probably as a result of previous complaints. The bathroom was atrocious; the cold tap didn't provide any water, and the shower looked like something from 1983. The final straw was checking out. A long queue forms because, on entry, they keep a holding amount of room fee plus £50. This means everyone, and I mean everyone, is queuing to leave. I haven't needed to queue for checkout since the early 2000s. However, it did give plenty of opportunity to see other residents complain about their stay or query why there's no drop box. Also, I still can't figure out whether breakfast was included, whether we were overcharged or whether an nhs discount was made, because no itemised bill was provided. Just a bill for over 200 quid. Not what was expected. Finally, in such a lovely building, get better lifts. They are a farce, held together with sticky tape. I just walked. It was easier. Disappointing waste of money.

Stayed 2 nights, which cost over £400. We were excited about our stay.
Upon arriving we did get a parking space which was great, once we got in to our room it was good size with everything you needed. We had a great view of the Tyne Bridge & Millennium Bridge, unfortunately was obscured by filthy windows.
The mattress was so uncomfortable and the pillows were just terrible. The noise level was so loud, from outside noises, music, then a lorry delivery at 6.45am Saturday morning with the reverse announcement blaring. We didn’t however want this to detract from getaway, as parents who haven’t been away together this year and just wanted a nice break away.
We went down for Breakfast on the Saturday morning, to be asked to wait for a table in the lounge, which took over 40 minutes, we weren’t even aloud a coffee whilst we waited. But we understood they were busy and we thought must be a great breakfast for the wait.
How wrong were we! We were served bread not toast, milk in a tea pot.. Nothing really on the hot breakfast buffet no beans, no hash browns, the bacon was pale and uncooked, the fried eggs weren’t edible. We hoped that Sunday morning’s breakfast would be better, it wasn’t. We were asked to wait again for a table, after being told they had no staff for us to be able to eat in our friends suite.
Sat down by a very lovely breakfast team host, I missed his name but he was great. Tried his best working with absolutely nothing! This morning we were offered a menu which we’d not been shown on the Saturday morning! We were told the buffet had been raided and lots of things weren’t available! No sausages, no croissants and more… If you have a full hotel and are charging for breakfast, surely you should be able to have everything that was on offer.

Upon check out we mentioned this but unfortunately were completely dismissed by the receptionist.

So many complaints from guests checking out.

The location of this hotel was amazing, it really felt like it was being ran on shoe string. When you’re spending the kind of money you do for a 2 night break, it’s really disappointing.

A precious weekend spoilt by what should have been a great hotel.

Stayed for one night over the bank holiday weekend. Check in busy, but the bald gentleman who checked us in was brilliant. Very friendly and efficient. Room clean and as per the photos on the website. So far, so good.

Later we had a meal in the restaurant which was included in our deal. Again, pretty good value. Loads of food and we couldn't fit in a desert.

Sadly, there was only one member of staff working in the hotel bar, who also seemed to be having to make all of the drinks for the restaurant too. He was very friendly and efficient, but there's only so much one man can do so service was quite slow. The bar also seemed to be missing the ingredients for most of the cocktails on offer, which was disappointing.

On getting back to our room, the thumping music from the rooftop bar was unbearable through the open windows. Even with the windows closed you could hear the bass pounding. Luckily it wasn't too warm, but if you'd needed to leave the windows open there's no way you would have been able to sleep.

Went down for breakfast in the morning, and were seated quickly. We were told someone would be over shortly to explain how breakfast works. After over 10 minutes we gave up waiting - we decided we could work out how a buffet worked without instructions.. You need to order coffee and toast from the staff, so we did this on our way to the buffet queue. Stood in a long queue for the buffet. On getting to the front it turned out the reason for the queue was that they'd run out of everything. Got back to our table after about 15 minuted, and the coffee and toast hadn't arrived. Asked a member of staff about this, who told us it was on the way. Finally, just as we finished breakfast, the coffee and toast arrived.

Obviously the hotel was busy due to being a bank holiday, but as a wedding that deals with regular large functions you would expect them to get the basics right. This has been our go to hotel for relaxing nights away for years now, but this trip was just rubbish

Great free parking, arrived early and concierge took car key and parked car for us as we went to look around Newcastle and get lunch. Requested a quiet room and room 712 was very peaceful, comfy bed and quiet fan which we used throughout as large note stuck on window saying unable to open as it was broken. All staff we met were very friendly. Dining room for breakfast is lovely, we’re greeted, shown to table and drinks ordered and asked how we would like eggs! Poached eggs brought to table on side plates, whilst we were eating cereal. Good choice for breakfast however ‘hot plates’ were cold and the only thing warm on the buffet were the beans, everything else just lukewarm/cold. We have stayed at Vermont a number of times before but disappointed this time with breakfast. Location is brilliant as we were going to the Sage.

We arrived early at 1:30pm but the valet kindly parked our car (free parking outside the hotel was a big bonus for us) and Paige on reception welcomed us and told us our room was ready (also a big bonus!) despite us arriving 90 mins early. Thanks Paige!

Our room was at the side of the hotel overlooking the train track but the noise was minimal even with the window open. The room was clean and tidy with a comfy bed and also four chairs, three desks and a coffee table for just two of us! The hotel's location was perfect for us, close to the Quayside and a short walk up Dean Street to the main shopping area.

I stayed at the vermont apartments and ask to change room as I could not see out of any of my windows. I then got put in another room and it was not clean and not luxury as stated on this website. I ask to be put in the main building and they said there was no rooms available. I emailed them saying I was not happy about this and they ring me and said to come to the main hotel to see a room. I stayed in the room for a little bit and then noticed there was no WiFi in the room for me to do my work. I told the receptionist and they said they could move me to another room, I check another they took me to the same area in the hotel just a floor below us and there was not WiFi there either. They said they would get the maintenance team to fix it. The next day I ask they if they had come and they said yes in the hallway and works. I said have you checked in my room and they said no. They said they would charge my room however the manager wouldn't come to speak to me about this and sent someone from the bar to check two other rooms in the same area of hotel on two different floors above me. They WiFi still did not work there. The manager came and said the maintenance team would fix it tomorrow when they came in. I when down to reception the next day and they said thr other manager should of not said that because the maintenance team could not work the problem and had to change rooms. I said I am sick of packing our stuff and moving rooms. The reception said there is nothing else she could do. On top of all this the room has some other issues for example sink is broken, toilet does flush properly. We have not relaxed for our whole week of being there. We are more exhausted then went we came. we had afternoon tea and we had to wait 40 minutes till it arrived and then the scones and sandwiches were hard so we could not eat them. As we had to wait so long we could not enjoy it and had to rush so we could leave. It was the worst service and afternoon tea I have ever had. This experience has ruined my grandma birthday. I have had to use my data which has cost me money and have not got anything back for it.

Unfortunately I will not be returning to the vermont Hotel or apartments and I will not be recommending then to anyone.

We had a one night stay and would use again although had a couple of gripes.
The room itself was really nice and comfortable although could hear noise till early morning from the bar outside.
Bathroom had a bath as well as a shower. Bed comfy and a nice sofa as well. One of the gripes was having to pay £50 Deposit on arrival and having read other reviews it can take days to get back. The fridge in room has a selection of drinks and one Twix which I thought was odd in a double room. There are also nuts, crisps etc which are also payable
We never used any of these so I’m interested to see if we are charged for anything
Hotel has easy access to Quayside. Beware in the bar as there is a 10% service charge which isn’t easy to spot. Also another gripe is the car parking. It is free at the front of the hotel, but it appears to be only if you have a ‘nice’ car tgat fits in with the image otherwise parking is payable at the side
That said we would stay again but probably go in the train or get a lift
