The Royal Station Hotel captivates guests with its grand ambiance, featuring beautiful chandeliers and festive decor, particularly praised during the Christmas season. Its central location earns high marks for convenience, situated near the train station and city attractions. However, reviews suggest the rooms could benefit from modernization and better soundproofing to combat street noise and disturbances. While opinions on value and cleanliness are mixed, the staff's friendliness and professionalism are consistently commended. The hotel's amenities, including the pool and spa, receive varied feedback, yet its architecture remains a highlight for many visitors.

Our second stay here 6 yrs apart and yeah apart from the hotel needing some updating and tlc it's still value for money. We stayed in a room on the 3rd floor it was quiet we never got disturbed. The room had everything we needed Television fridge tea and coffee making facilities hairdryer ear plugs iron n ironing board a fan good sized comfy double bed a large bathroom with bath and shower.
We stayed for just 1 night at £89 as we were going to see a theatre show. The room was clean just in need of some TLC carpet abit worn in places and the bedside cabinets abit worn. Can't comment on the food as we ate out in the city. Staff we met on reception were really nice and polite and helpful. I would stay here again as the location is great being practically right next to the train station. Its a beautiful old building just make sure you keep up with the maintenance

Not bad value for the price. Excellent location.
Room size and fittings adequate and clean, towels skimpy, sound proofing good. Fridge was a welcome addition.
Breakfast good and plentiful.
Wonderful building but tirred!
The following is advice to staff/manager, from well experienced travellers:
Reception staff need to acknowledge clients waiting to check in - it only takes 3 seconds to look up, smile and let them know you will deal with them soon.
Leisure pool stairs and corridor DANGEROUSLY SLIPPERY! I realise the desk cannot be left unattended, BUT, someone needs to check changing rooms, empty bins, collect dumped wet towels etc. regularly.
We enjoyed our stay - thankyou.

This is a good hotel if you want a central location and to be close to the railway. We were pleased with our suite and the view over the platforms was a bonus. Noise wasn’t an issue so we could have the window open. But, this is an old hotel and it’s getting very shabby. Decor and furnishings were dirty, the chaise longe at the foot of our bed had stains we didn’t want to examine too closely so we just put the suitcase there. The bathroom needed a new bath which actually allowed water to drain and a bath mat without free mould. But I was still prepared to give our stay 4 stars until the last night. There was a wedding in the hotel and we were blasted out by the disco. It was so loud I felt the bass whilst in bed. Totally unhelpful staff, don’t care that anyone couldn’t sleep. Clearly they had the money for the wedding and clearly any other guests money for a good nights sleep wasn’t as important. If you are going to host a wedding disco make sure you have the soundproofing before you do it.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback following your recent stay. We are pleased that you enjoyed our great city centre location and the views from your room of the train station. Trip advisor does not state dates of your stay so I can not specifically look at your comments about the wedding. We did however have a wedding reception this weekend (Saturday until 1145pm) I am sorry if that music disturbed you. With regards to you general comments I have passed them over to the relevant teams. Once again thank you for your comments. Regards Christine

Upon arrival the woman behind desk was very friendly and we were even able to check in early which was of course a bonus. I also liked that there was a security guard at the door after a certain time at night checking your names / rooms. Unfortunately the 'good' ended there as when we got to our room it was extremely old and the smell when you walk in was as if the windows have never been opened. After a few minutes we realised that one window wouldn't stay open and the other only about 4 inches so not a lot of air getting in so the smell didn't go away, I found my clothes were getting a dusty / old smell. The tiles in the bathroom were cracked, the wood at bottom of doors were wearing off and the carpet had stains all over, most notably a massive red stain beside the dresser as well as the build up of dust / grime at the pipes behind the toilet. We stayed 4 nights and didn't get any fresh towels so had to dry them on the old radiators that we didn't want to use as we were trying to air the room out as much as possible and our beds were only made once. Not one picture on booking.com / here is a reflection of the room I stayed in so please bear this in mind when booking, I have stayed in many hotels due to travelling for work often and I hate to say it was up there with the worst. One of the main reasons we stayed here was the pool / health suite however due to the cleanliness of the room we ended up not using the facilities so I can't comment on that, when we were checking out people were complaining it was closed but again it did not impact me. Overall a very very dated hotel, I have never stayed in a place like it making it extremely disappointing for the price we paid however the friendly front of house staff made it passible.

Dear Cheryl, Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback about your stay. We are pleased to hear that you were able to check in early and appreciated the security measures at night. It’s also great to know that our front desk team made a positive impression on you. However, we sincerely apologize for the condition of your room and the overall experience you had. We understand how disappointing it must have been, and we take your comments regarding the room cleanliness, maintenance issues, and lack of fresh towels very seriously. We are in the process of ongoing improvements to our rooms and facilities, and your feedback will help us prioritize the necessary updates. Did you speak to a duty manager during your stay? We would have loved the opportunity to resolve any issues you were having with your stay and if the lighting in your room was poor we would have moved you to a better, well-lit room. Thank you for your constructive comments, and we hope that you will consider staying with us again in the future, giving us the chance to offer you a much better experience.

Ia stayed at The Royal Station Hotel, for one night, at the start of March. As this was my first time staying in a hotel by myself, especially as a solo female traveller, I was a bit apprehensive but the friendly and informative front of house staff, quickly eased my anxieties and ensured I was comfortable.
I was placed in room 405 - a large triple room on the hotels top floor. The room itself was beautifully presented and had a lovely view over the city centre. The room was also spotless, which coming from someone who is a bit of a neat freak, is the biggest complement I could give. The housekeeping staff here are wonderful and aside from providing a clean a welcoming environment, were also available to ensure I didn't need any extra amenities, such as towels, pillows or refils for the tea and coffee station. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a relaxing stay whilst being right in the city centre, with access to all that Newcastle has to offer.
Many thanks to the entire team for such a wonderful stay

Don't let the photos and the delightful entrance area fool you. Arrived for a 2 night trip with my hubby as a final 50th birthday treat. Receptionist said she would find us a better room as it was a special occasion. We arrived at room 115 it was nothing special, floors uneven and pretty basic to be honest. We dropped off our bags and went out in Newcastle City for food and drinks. The first night we got very little sleep at all, due to the factor the 3xtra special room was right behind the taxi rank for a nightclub and the railway station!!! We had to request a alternative room the next morning. Receptionist asked us to return at 1pm to view the only free room they had. Room 321, even smaller and more basic but at least away from the noise. We did manage to sleep but view wasn't the best, brick wall, bathroom with wonky and dropping taps. Breakfast was interesting, young blonde girl if went any slower would freeze on the spot, we weren't the only people to ask for something and she give the same response "I will be with you in 2 minutes " tables were left uncleared for 10 to 15 minutes, I asked for a extra pot of tea and this was forgotten and my hubby had to request again 15 minutes later. It took a older more senior lady to come and sort out the mess and get the young girl to actually move and do the job she was being paid for. My hubby even moved out plates to the stacking area himself, faulty towers wasn't in it. Shame as well as we had stayed in Newcastle 18 months earlier in the Sandman and this was miles better, avoid the Royal Station Hotel and seek alternative, would recommend the Sandman anyway. Would recommend some customer services training along side working under pressure for the young girl and also the young man who thought his time would be betterment drying out glasses for juice that had been empty for 15.minutes than supporting the young girl.wih meeting and greet or clearing away plates.

The location of the Royal Station Hotel was ideal for me as I was travelling to Newcastle by train and the hotel was only a few minutes’ walk from Newcastle Train station. It saved me the hustles of carrying my bags walking across the busy streets in the town centre or getting up and down the metro stations. The hotel offers a delightful historic charm. Stepping through the elegant entrance, I was immediately greeted by a sense of grandeur, with a classy decor that included chandeliers and a majestic grand staircase.

I had the pleasure of staying in a spacious, clean and comfortable room facing the car park instead of the main road. As such, I did not hear the noise from the main street, which had been a concern for some other reviewers. Instead, I was treated to a lovely view of the iconic Tyne Bridge right outside my window. The room featured a desk, which was convenient for work, but the addition of a desk lamp will be required to brighten up the space during the evening hours.

The provision of a swimming pool was a plus. While it has served its purpose, its layout did pose a slight inconvenience. Since the changing room was located upstairs from the pool area, it required the swimmers traversing a carpeted space between the changing room and the pool in bare feet. I would recommend guests bring a pair of sandals or slippers when they intend to use the swimming pool. It would be helpful if the hotel could alert pool users about this in advance.

Despite these small inconveniences, I have had a great stay at Royal Station Hotel. I will stay here again the next time I come to Newcastle.

Check in is at 3pm, leave it half hour or so for queue to die down. It’s an old hotel in the City Centre so you have to expect some noise but it wasn’t enough to stop us sleeping. The room and bathroom was very large with everything you could need, toiletries, iron and ironing board, fridge and kettle with tea, milk and coffee. We had a lovely evening meal and the breakfast was fine. You could have a cooked breakfast or fruit youghurt, pastries etc. No complaints about the food or the staff who were efficient and attentive. A very enjoyable stay

Where to start!?!?
Firstly, if you check in on a Sunday, you can’t use the pool/facilities (this should be made clear but isn’t!).
TV in room didn’t work (confirmed by a member of staff but then denied by hotel manager in a response I will cover later.)
Called reception and it rang and rang and rang and then someone answered and put me straight on hold. I walked down to speak to them, to find 7 members of staff all stood around reception chatting. When I addressed this, one particular girl said “we’re on a break!”.
When I asked “should you all really be stood around distracting staff at reception” she replied “we can stand where ever we want, it’s our break”.
When I complained to the manager, he actually defended all the above and literally called me a liar.
Worst customer service experience I’ve ever had to be honest, to actually have a member of staff argue with me I find appalling.
All this aside, the place is a giant toilet.
Check the pictures.
The rooms are dated, the windows don’t close properly allowing all the traffic and party noise in making it impossible to sleep, the tv DID NOT work (see pic saying “no signal”, or maybe I’ve made this pic up eh Mr Manager)
The “Spa” isn’t much better (again, see pics) with wet rust running down the walls past electrical fittings (I’m pretty sure that’s dangerous, especially next to a swimming pool!
Pieces missing around the jacuzzi, the vending machine “out of order”.
The outside front of house signage and canopy look like they haven’t been cleaned since the Queens Silver Jubilee in 1977.

Add to this the cheek and back chat from staff and the manager, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone visiting Newcastle.

Message to the owners…
Get some standards about you, have a bit of pride that you’re at the heart of a great city and stop fleecing people and up your game.

We had room 269 at the back of the hotel, we overlooked the car park and the station platforms which were covered. We could see some trains arriving and departing but probably not as good as you want if an avid train spotter.
