The Grand Hotel Gosforth Park Newcastle offers a prime location with free parking and easy access to local attractions, which guests appreciate. However, the hotel's atmosphere receives mixed reviews, with some areas appearing modern while others seem outdated. While many travelers commend the staff's friendliness, service quality is inconsistent. Room conditions have been criticized for needing refurbishment, and additional charges for leisure amenities, along with inconsistent amenity replenishment, have led guests to question the overall value of their stay.

I didn’t have high hopes for this hotel, but it did surprise me.

Room was to an ok standard, nothing glamorous and you’d see no better or worse in a Premiere Inn. The bed was comfortable and all amenities you’d expect from a room were there and fully working. Slight issue with the room attached to ours stinking of cigarette smoke every now & then but this is more down to the occupants in that room being complete helmets than the hotel being at fault.

The breakfast buffet was fresh & well stocked, plus they happily accommodate allergies by making food bespoke on request which is a great touch to avoid cross contamination.

The food from the restaurant in the evening was absolutely fantastic, I’ll happily admit I was expecting it to be a letdown but it was spot on.

The facilities such as the pool and sauna was great, just turn up in your swimwear and they’ll sort the rest including towel & lockers at no charge, even if you’ve checked out which is a neat touch.

Dear MrChesterJester, Thank you for your feedback, it's lovely to hear you were pleasantly surprised with the hotel and facilities. With regards to disrespectful guests smoking in rooms, if reported to us, we can easily rectify by speaking to the guest or in worse cases asking them to leave the property as smoking is prohibited in the building. Great to hear you enjoyed your meal in the restaurant and had the opportunity to use the leisure facilities during your stay. We look forward to welcoming you again to the Grand Hotel Gosforth park in the future. Many Thanks Ian Nicholls Front Office Manager

I've stayed here a few times over the years, seemingly under a different name each time. The place always feels polished and refreshed and the facilities are very well looked after. Staff were all great, and couldn't do enough for us, something that was consistent across our stay. We were in for a party in the Hotel's in house conference suite, which again was well staffed. Food during the function was a buffet, which was good quality and certainly far better than you'd usually expect at these things.

Room was clean and well maintained, and a couple of fans were already in the room to help cool it during an unusually warm period, which was a nice touch. WiFi was simple to log onto and reliable throughout the stay.

Breakfast was again well managed, with good quality, fresh food that was topped up and replaced well before it ran out.

Only gripe is their policy of charging hotel guests to use their leisure club. Whilst it was included in the package for some of our party, others that had booked independently did not have this included. Wasn't overly expensive, but it feels a bit like a cash grab when you'd typically expect this to be available to guests.

Dear ScotMag, Thank you for your feedback. It's lovely to hear you had an enjoyable stay with us during your event and a good Northeast welcome from the staff you met during your stay. I shall pass on your comments to each department. From the 1st of April this year we now charge a discounted entry for the leisure club, reduced from £15.00 to £5.00 per hotel guest, per day. Any guests booked on the package were included for free access. Many hotel chains now charge a supplement for leisure access. We hope to welcome you again in the future to the Gran Hotel Gosforth Park. Many Thanks Ian Nicholls Front Office Manager

Sadly my reviews now are not the five stars I’ve previously awarded. I’ve always found the staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was buffet style and I was pleased with the choice and quality - usual array of bacon, pastries, fruits and yogurt etc. The hotel rate seemed pretty good, until I arrived to find my room in the annex smelled sweaty (I think, from investigating, that it was the carpet). Previous stays have mostly been in the main building where the room sizes are really good and the furniture, though ‘classic’ looking, is spacious and homely. More disappointingly, you now have to pay £5 to use the health club each time. I used to arrive and have a short dip and jacuzzi after travelling, and do the same in the morning, in a relaxed fashion that was really important to my stay. Now there is an extra barrier of payment, it doesn’t feel relaxed or a privilege at all. I didn’t find any of the work out classes I’ve previously enjoyed either. Despite loving this hotel previously, I won’t say that I’ll never stay again (because the parking is free, but make sure you register your car on arrival), but I’ll be looking at properties without a pool/gym for a fairer comparison of price and less dated rooms than the annex ones.

Dear 151jennyt, Thank you for your feedback. I'm disappointed to hear that you though the hotel had lost the "fee good factor" Nice to hear you had a good Northeast welcome from the staff you met during your stay, and you had an enjoyable breakfast. The rooms in the annex are our cheaper and much smaller rooms, which you can upgrade to a larger room in the main building for an additional charge, subject to availability. If you had mentioned any issues with smell from carpet, we could have checked and rectified or if not room move you. As you mentioned you found the room rate pretty good, and to avoid increasing the room rates we have taken the decision to charge for leisure club access. Hotel guests get a discounted Day Pass for £5.00 each discounted from £15.00, we still offer a range of classes in our leisure club. Again parking is free to all hotel guests, with over 100 signs informing guests to register. We hope to welcome you again in the future to the Grand Hotel Gosforth Park. Many Thanks Ian Nicholls Front Office Manager

This hotel is not a place to stay for more than two nights. They do not clean your room and provide replenished supplies. You have to ask every time you need something, tissues toilet paper milk tea coffee clean towels soap.
It is an hotel with many rooms but it seems as though there are only four disabled parking places close to the front of the hotel the last couple of nights the two disabled parking spaces were filled by expensive Porsches that did not display blue badges. Seems they think they can do what they like
The parking is monitored by parking eye. Be careful as you may end up with a hefty parking charge from ******* like them
It gets very noisy at the weekends, ask for ear plugs and they look at you stupid.
Generally they could save a fortune by turning the hot water temperature down and using thermostatic mixer taps.
The aircraft noise starts between 6am and 7 am.
There seems to be a lot of secrecy you have to ask for menu’s then get told where to get it
Be a good idea if they had menus in the rooms.food not bad reasonable price but would have liked menu in rooms
Interesting caveats you don’t get a refund if you have a covid related issue or if Ukraine causes problems but they do not have any protocol’s in place about social distancing. The lifts are a free for all and there are no notices about about who should be in the lift .
I think the rated capacity is 10 or 75 kg. I would like to see limits on lift capacity and stopping un related people entering the lifts. Three times I told people I did not want to share the lift but they still piled in so I left. One way to prevent this would be to not have interrupted journeys if you get in on floor 2 and want to go to ground floor do not stop at level 1. They seem to be more concerned with their profits than customer safety or protection.
You can get rooms cheaper on other websites than their own checkin
Would I be going back?
??
Not 100% sure yet but 99.99% I won’t be returning

Dear B9025ACwilliamp, Thank you for your feedback. We have many guests that stay a number of nights with us, and rooms can be cleaned on a daily basis if requested at reception or with the door hangers in the bedrooms, along with replenishing any supplies that you require. We do have four disabled bays, along with a number of other parking bays near to the front door, unfortunately we do have some inconsiderate guests who do park in the disabled bays that they do not require. With regards to registering your car details, there is over 60 signs in the car and a further 40+ in the hotel, along with the two illuminated terminals on the desk that you can't miss when signing your registration card upon check-in. The hotel can be busy most nights, if you experience noise from other guests and reception informed, we can investigate. Sorry to say we are not responsible for the noise from airplanes, and we do not provide ear plugs. Menus are available from Chats bar and I'm happy to say we are adding our newly printed menus to the rooms. Covid restrictions were lifted, and it is to the individual as how they wish to proceed with their safety. The lifts are designed to take maximum 10 guests, 750kg. The lift call stops on each floor when pressed and are for all hotel guests to use. We are interested in guests and not just out for profit as you suggest! Rooms are advertised on many third-party websites along with our own site, where you should be able to find the best deals. Sorry to hear you wouldn't return, thankfully we have many returning guests that enjoy the hotel. Many Thanks Ian Nicholls Front Office Manager

Our room had a particularly strong smell of urine and the light bulb in our beside table was broken. We were also awoken in the middle of the night by a rogue fire alarm. The pool and spa facilities are not included in hotel rates - an unprecedented set up that I’ve never encountered - and it was rammed full so we couldn’t even attempt to swim.

Tstty rooms grubby and furniture old and stained water damage in bathroom where water has escaped. Plugs and electrical have not been updated with stickers to say been passed if so the dates are old.regulation fault there. We were on 3rd floor looking over a roof which was very noisy . Dear J2198XOlesleys Thank you for your feedback. On check-in guests are given a registration form to check and sign, I assume you were on a room only basis as what you would have booked, reception offer to upgrade to a breakfast basis at an additional charge of £12.95 per guest per day, if this was missed on the occasion you checked in I can only apologise, you could have still came down for breakfast and paid on the day in the restaurant. Leisure Club is chargeable for hotel guests, and is displayed on reception and in the guest information sheet handed out to all guests on check-in. Any issues with your room if reported at the time would have been addressed, unable to do anything after check-out and reporting it on TripAdvisor. We are nearing completion of our public areas refurbishment, where we then commence our next phase of bedroom redecoration. Sorry to hear you wouldn't recommend or return, thankfully we have many returning guests. Many Thanks Ian Nicholls Front Office Manager

Our family normally stay here between 3-4 times a year, as it’s our wedding hotel from when it was Marriott hotel years ago. So we have good memories from here.
Since then it’s definitely not as grand as a Marriott.
This time we visited we got told there is a charge to use the pool, as we a family and it’s per person per visit, it was £16 per visit, we got told it was to keep room rates cheap (our room was over £120 per night plus £32 to use pool plus £140 for dinner, not sure how much on drinks but a lot as bar is not the cheapest, it’s far from cheap for what you get, rooms are very dated the net curtains on window had mould on them and dead flys in window runners
So I guess that was our last visit.
For the money you can definitely get better rooms elsewhere
The Staff are all lovely and very helpful I know that it’s head office that’s the greedy ones adding more and more charges

Dear terry d, Thank you for your feedback. From the 1st April this year we now charge guests a reduced rate of £5.00 per guest for a day pass to the leisure, discounted from £15.00 this is to keep our room rates competitive and you will find other hotel chains now also charge for leisure access. Sorry to hear you thought the bar prices to be expensive, depending where you drink locally there may be a slight difference, however I wouldn't say overpriced. I shall pass your comments to our housekeeping department regarding your issues with the room. We are nearing completion of our public area refurbishment, where we then commence our next phase of bedroom refurbishments. I'm sorry to hear that this will be your last visit and not return to show you a superior experience. Many Thanks Ian Nicholls Front Office Manager

We LOVED thos hotel! Everything was seamless from check in to check out. The family room we had was refurbished and had 2 extremely comfortable double beds. Didn't have a walk in shower but the bath was low enough to be able to step in and out. Teas coffees and biccies were in the room.
We ate dinner in the Chat Grill and the food was delicious especially the "proper" cooked in dripping chips that went with my steak pie. Our barman/ waiter was Ben and he was delightful- funny, chatty and friendly.
Breakfast was self service and included the usual range of cooked items, together with plenty of fresh fruit, decent ham and continental items. Our package was £176 for DBB (2 courses from the dinner menu) and 10 days parking, which we consider to be excellent value, as parking at the cruise terminal wod have cost us £120 alone.
The only unusual thing seems to be no public toilets on the ground floor, but there us a lift down to the LG floor if you have accessibility issues with stairs.
Finally the hotel also booked a lovely taxi which fitted 3 big cases, 1 small case and 2 not-small passengers with ease. The driver Pedro was v friendly and chatty and finished off a great night's stay. We would have no hesitation in booking this hotel again, or recommending to others.

Stayed here for one night with family we had 6 rooms, the only good thing was the pool, but from April you have to pay extra for the pool.
I was informed we had been upgraded.
Room was dirty and tatty & very dated.you could write your name on the lamp base with the dust, headboard & drawers that had tv on.,also red chair was dirty, tatty and dusty. The vent in bathroom i dont think it looked like it had ever been cleaned & rust running down tiled walls from handrail in bathroom.looked out the window and corners of windows very dirty. The view was an eyesore and it was very noisy.
In the bar we all ordered food which is not very cheap for what we got and we waited a very long time some of the party had ate their food when some people never got theres, we ordered chips and fries arrived we were never informed they had no chips, i paid £8 for these and its not what i ordered.
I did speak to some manager and her response was they were short staffed in kitchen, ( thats not my fault) they shouldnt be taking orders if thats the case, i would also like to point out we wernt the only ones to complain either.
We did get a free drink but for what we spent on rooms, food, drinks i didnt feel that was enough compensation and spoilt the mood a bit when it was my daughters 40 th birthday.
Maybe we should have stayed in the Travelodge.

Having an issue at another hotel, we arrived last minute and were a bit apprehensive.

The stay went really well. The room was clean and had enough storage and a safe. No tea bags, just instant coffee which was a bit of an issue, but nothing major.

The leisure facilities were good. Changing room seemed quite modern and had key locks, not coin operated, which was good. The was a pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and plunge pool. We didn’t use the gym, but looked big.

We didn’t eat in the hotel. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The only issue was we
Weren’t told to register our car at check in and noticed on the second night. I await the fine, but the hotel said to call them, gave me a card and they would cancel it. So, hopefully this should be resolved.
