Village Hotel Newcastle garners praise for its welcoming atmosphere and lively music events, along with a commendable location near various activities. However, guests have called out concerns about room cleanliness, noise disturbances, and the need for better ventilation and maintenance. While the hotel's service is often highlighted as friendly and helpful, there are sporadic reports of unprofessional behavior. Amenities like the gym and pool are generally well-received, but some travelers suggest improvements in water pressure and breakfast offerings. Despite some enjoying their stay, the value proposition is contentious, with critiques focusing on the high cost of food and amenities.

I recently stayed at this hotel during a business trip in July 2024, and I had an excellent experience. The location is superb, making it convenient for both work and leisure activities. The room was spotless, providing a comfortable and restful night's sleep, which was crucial for my busy schedule.

Service was very good; the staff were courteous and attentive, ensuring that all my needs were met promptly. Cleanliness throughout the property was excellent, and it was evident that the hotel places a high priority on maintaining a pristine environment.

While the value was average compared to other options, the overall experience was worth it due to the excellent location, cleanliness, and room quality. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting for business or leisure. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Such a shame about this hotel but its defo time for another refurb.
This time - soundproofing should be priority.
We paid £200 for a saturday (mental for the village hotel)
But had a bad nights sleep, the noise was awful. Someone in the room above us was jumping and thumping about. Like, gymnastics style jumping off the bed etc.
I rang the hotel numerous times - it rang and rang. I went on the chat, someone finally answered (abruptly) then ignored me. 20 mins later someone finally called me as i had got dressed and on my way to reception.
She must have been a host/Manager and she was nice but she said 'oh sorry, the person that is managing the chat is also on the bar and is busy'
Not acceptable, how many people are trying to get answered on that chat?! This is for the full hotel and the person is also on the bar serving people wtf?
Understaffed or cutting costs, not sure but terrible idea.
In the end, I had already knocked on the door of the person above and turns out it was a little 8 year old actually doing gymnastics, the woman apoligised and they went quiet(ish) after that could still hear footsteps, people walking through corridor etc etc. Can hear so many things, then a wave of people going back to rooms late, then the gym class music starts early and blasts. Just silly really. Do not stay on floor 1, ask for the top floor!
Service needs to improve big time. This hotel shouldnt be a 3 star, with improvements it could be alot better.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear about the noise disturbances you encountered during your stay. We completely understand how disruptive this must have been. Your comments about soundproofing and the overall noise issues have been noted, and we’ll be reviewing these concerns carefully to ensure improvements are made. We also apologise for the delayed response and lack of support you experienced when trying to reach us. This is certainly not the level of service we strive for, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We’ll be addressing staffing and communication concerns to make sure this doesn’t happen again. We’re grateful for your understanding and for bringing these issues to light, and we truly hope you’ll consider giving us another chance in the future. Where to even begin? We checked in here back in December 2021 and are unfortunately still staying with yous. Due to Storm Arwen we were put here by our insurance and we physically cannot fault a single member of staff, cannot fault a single part of the room, the restaurant or facilities.

We are a family of 6 (two of the family only being 4 and 5 year old). The whole time we have been here we couldn’t possibly say anything bad.

Reception Team are fantastic, not just one of the team, the entire team. Vicky, Hayley, Kat, Everyone. Even Chloe the newest member of the team. They have helped us countless times to deal with having the stay extended, we’ve lost count how many times that’s happened. Our insurance company have made that many excuses, the girls on the desk have always just got on the phone for us to get it sorted so we have somewhere safe, warm and dry to live.

Housekeeping have been fantastic, especially Sharon who works the late shift. Myself personally, I work late nights so Sharon always looks after us and ensures the rooms are spotless and goes above and beyond, even when theres two toddlers often getting in the way when shes trying to make beds or hoover.

The Breakfast, Bar and Restaurant Team have been absolutely brilliant throughout, always making sure if it’s due to be busy we are looked after and taken care off. Today especially we have just celebrated my mums 50th Birthday and Emily went above and beyond to make sure my mum had the best day with her family, despite still not being at her own home after 10 months.

The Night Shift staff, no issues a problem. It’s one of them things with a function room below sometimes guests will be here and cause noise or issues which we have no problem and expected. But whenever anything has been too much, it’s never been a problem, quick phone call down to reception and it is always dealt with within minutes as well as followed up to make sure issues have stopped.

Finally, thorough-out our stay my mum has suffered ups and downs with her health, and again the staff have done nothing but look after us, check in on her and even assist her when needed. Kids will be kids and the age they are, they’ve spent 10 months between two rooms and are getting worked up so often now try to push themselves, yet still it’s absolutely no issue and all the staff from every department have done nothing but make a fuss with them throughout to make sure we have felt at home, even if we aren’t home.

We’ll be glad to be leaving the Village Hotel hopefully very soon, but sad at the same time as the treatment and level of service everyone has provided has been above what we would have ever expected.

We can’t thank everyone here enough for how we have been looked after. We will however as we’ve been asked by everyone to pop in every now and then to say hello.

It’s not often you need to spend around 10 months in a hotel on an emergency relocation basis, but if you ever do, the village is definitely the best placement to get.

I recently stayed at the Village Hotel and while there were some positives, a few key aspects made my stay less enjoyable than I had hoped.

Firstly, the noise level in the rooms was a big issue. It seems the walls are quite thin, as I could clearly hear other patrons in nearby rooms as well as noise from the bar and grill. This made it difficult to get a good night's sleep, especially during busier hours.

Another downside was the restaurant. The food quality left a lot to be desired. While the menu offers a decent selection, the overall standard could be improved to match what you'd expect from a hotel of this level.

Lastly, the showers were quite disappointing. During peak times, the water pressure was just above a trickle, making it difficult to enjoy a proper shower. This was especially frustrating after a long day when you'd want a strong, refreshing shower to relax.

On the plus side, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the hotel's amenities were well-maintained. However, given the issues with noise, food, and shower pressure, I’m not sure I would stay again unless these are improved.

Stayed for 10 nights for work, truly awful room.

ROOM

Room smelled of damp and had a wet patch on the carpet outside the bathroom, I suspect the shower is leaking under the floor and the extractor fan didn’t work, which I reported on the app as there were no staff around as it’s a self check in. No response.
I was working night shifts along with a lot of other colleagues and we were placed supposedly in a quieter part of the hotel, couldn’t have been further from quiet.
Cleaners insisted on trying to get into your room when sleeping regardless of the fact there was a do not disturb sign on the door, if they couldn’t get in they made a load of noise banging the doors with a vacuum cleaner.
Blackout blinds had tiny pinholes which allowed a lot of light through.
There was s large metal skip in the car park outside the room which made a really loud noise every time stuff was put in it, and to make it even better the scrap collectors were rummaging around in it daily. The bed was really uncomfortable.

Hotel in general

Had to find my way to my room, which seemed the only way was through the bar.
Bar was busy and the staff were generally friendly.
Breakfast was fairly good, but the bar and grill food wasn’t good, really poor value too.

All in all a really poor experience, only tolerated it as it was for work.

The leisure facility is modern, airy & caters for all exercise requirements. Weights rooms & equipment are regularly refurbished and updated & a wide range of instructor led classes attract very positive feedback.

The swimming pool area is really good, with a much longer pool than the average in hotels generally, and great for relaxing after a hard day at work.

Invariably the staff are hard-working, friendly and professional. Some really great characters work there. Too many to name them all but Laura, Vanessa, Geoff, Lisa spring to mind. Also, Tommy, who although only starting recently has settled in really well, always has a pleasant word with customers, very conscientious & a hard-core cleaner (like Geoff & John) in terms of the effort he consistently puts in to keeping the facilities spic and span.

Overall a great experience.

The hotel was a competitive price, in an ideal location in Newcastle and the staff were felt welcoming from the minute of arrival until departure.

The bar also had a fantastic atmosphere.

Highly recommend this Hotel.

Spent 2 nights at the hotel & overall it was a fantastic experience. On arrival we were met by a polite lady, who assisted us with check in & also when we alerted her we had been assigned the wrong room. She was unable to change our room, but made the manager aware of this & the issue was swiftly sorted out in the morning and we were given a new room. The customer service and politeness of the staff was fantastic all the way through the hotel, everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Special mention to the breakfast host who made us feel so welcome and went out of her way to make sure we knew where everything was. The rooms we had were both clean and amenities were as expected. The bar and grill was staffed well & we were served quickly to both food and drinks. We ordered a sharing basket and cocktails, all of which were lovely. When we went on the second night, the boy who made the cocktails put Bacardi in instead of rum so we couldn’t drink it. We opted not to raise it but I’m sure they would have dealt with this, going on other examples of how we were treated during our stay. Breakfast was lovely, well cooked and good choice, although I did miss the waffles that are usually offered in other hotels. We used the pool, but was unable to use the jacuzzi/steam room etc as it was so busy. This isn’t a fault, just unable to comment on them. The sit down whirlpool in the swimming pool area was good & something that I think should be included in other village hotels. We were offered towels and a padlock for the locker by the staff, but the padlock had metal keys which we couldn’t take through to the pool area, so would advise them to look at this as we still had to leave our stuff in an unlocked cupboard. Overall the facilities were excellent and the staff were so polite and helpful. This is our seventh different village hotel we have stayed in and I would say this is the best one for customer service that we have experienced. I would definitely recommend. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We booked 2 family adjoining rooms, which worked very well with 3 children! From the minute we arrived Hayley welcomed us with a smile, and explained everything we needed to know for our stay.
The Bar/Restaurant staff were amazing! Nothing was ever too much trouble, and one young lady even offered to help me carry 2 jugs of water up to our room for the children! When we needed extra tea, coffee, milk or towels, Hayley arranged for them to be sent to our room immediately! We were wowed by their overall customer service! Excellent employees! We could also see the ladies who cleaned the rooms work extremely hard! Even the Pool staff were welcoming! It's so rare to find happy employees who use their initiative! 'Thank you' to an incredible team!
During our stay, the fire alarm went off during the early hours, but the staff handled the situation with ease and professionalism as we were evacuated from the hotel, and guests' safety was clearly their priority!

Our criticisms are, the mattress was uncomfortable and the pillows were either too hard or really soft and lumpy. Also, not having a fridge in our room for medications was an issue. Although they did kindly offer to put our medication in their fridge, but we refused due to the potential risk of contamination. Therefore we bought a mini fridge.
Regarding food choices, there needs to be a menu for people with allergies, especially for children. Our granddaughter can't eat egg white, wheat, gluten, dairy, or sweeteners! so there really needs to be a review of the children's menu! Also, I certainly don't agree with giving Haribo sweets to kids 'with their main meals' considering it's bombarding them with even more toxins and artificial sugars that are really unhealthy. However, the presentation of the food was really impressive.
Apart from small things that can be reviewed and changed, the Employees at this Hotel are the Best we've experienced in a long time, as we stay in a lot of hotels due to business! They really made our stay enjoyable, and for this reason, we will certainly book again and recommend this Hotel to friends and family! Thank you to all the wonderful staff who made a positive difference! You really are appreciated, thank you so much! x

Myself and two of my sons stayed here on September 15th ‘23 having travelled up from Holmfirth in order to collect a new car the following morning.

We arrived late after a 4-hour journey and (after checking in with the assistance of a very helpful member of staff whose name I didn’t catch) made a beeline for the restaurant for some food & drink.

There was some live music (great singer!) to entertain us, and New Zealand vs Namibia rugby on the big screens (go the all blacks!)

Aylish took our order and, she was so incredibly helpful in trying to accommodate one of my son’s needs (he has a dairy allergy) whilst being somewhat constrained by a relatively limited menu in that regard. She went above and beyond and was a real pleasure to deal with.

Thank you Aylish, you made what can often be a disappointing and potentially stressful experience, totally seamless.

All in, a very pleasant experience staying here.

Looking forward to breakfast in the morning!

Not had any experience of this. Suggest you phone direct. There are kettles in the room so if you took a large enough container and sterilising tablets you could possibly do it in your room.
